(1) Chairman of State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe receives Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand

YANGON, 30 July – Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe received Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Mr Bhichai Rattakul and party who called at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 11 am today.

Also present on the occasion together with Senior General Than Shwe were Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of Protocol Department and together with the visiting Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand were Minister of Prime Minister's Office Air Chief Marshall Somboon Rahong, senior officers and Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak.

(2) Deputy Prime Minister meets Thai counterpart

YANGON, 30 July – Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin met Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Mr Bhichai Rattakul who called at his office at noon today.

Also present at the call together with Deputy Prime Minister were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office and Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung and officials and together with the visiting Deputy Prime Minister was Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak.

(3) Secretary-1 hosts dinner in honour of Deputy Prime Minister of Kingdom of Thailand and goodwill delegation

YANGON, 30 July – Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt hosted dinner in honour of Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand Mr Bhichai Rattakul and delegation at Karaweik Palace at 7 pm today.

The dinner was also attended by Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin, Lt-Gen Tin Tun and Lt-Gen Tin Hla, ministers, Minister of Prime Minister's Office Air Chief Marshall Somboon Rahong of Thailand and high ranking of officials, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak and staff of Thai Embassy.

Artistes entertained the guests with Myanmar traditional dances and songs.

Then, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand Mr Bhichai Rattakul presented a flower basket to artistes.

(4) Paddy sown acreage, per acre yield increase in Yangon Division; Yangon Division completes monsoon paddy ploughing season for 1999-2000

YANGON, 30 July – A ceremony to mark the completion of monsoon paddy ploughing season in Yangon Division for 1999-2000 was held in conjunction with paddy transplanting competition and presenting of prizes for crop cultivation and production this morning at Sitpinkwin village, Thanlyin Township, Yangon West District in the Division.

Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the ceremony and delivered an address.

Later, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and ministers presented prizes to the companies, organizations and townships for their outstanding performance in reclamation of wetlands for cultivation purposes, cultivation and production of beans, edible oil crops, monsoon paddy, multiple cropping, and paddy purchase in 1998-99.

Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint and Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin also gave away the prizes to the townships and private companies and organizations for ploughing of land for cultivation of monsoon paddy as targeted in 1999-2000.

Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than presented prizes to outstanding transplanters and groups.

After the ceremony, the Secretary-2 and party inspected the production of 'bokashi' natural fertilizer, the exhibition on the types of soil for cultivation of crops, machines and equipment used for agricultural purposes and hybrid paddy strains.

(5) Thai Deputy PM visits National Museum, Myanma Gems Museum

YANGON, 30 July – A Thai goodwill delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Mr Bhichai Rattakul of Thailand, visiting here at the invitation of Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, visited the National Museum and Myanma Gems Museum this afternoon.

At 3.45 pm, the goodwill delegation visited the Myanmar Gems Museum where the delegation was welcomed by Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein, Director-General U Khin Oo of Myanma Gems Enterprise and officials.

The deputy minister and officials conducted the Thai delegation round the museum.

The Thai Deputy Prime Minister and party left there this evening.

(6) Ministry of Education holds coordination meeting

YANGON, 30 July – The Ministry of Education held a coordination meeting at Aung Kyaw Hall of Basic Education High School No.6 in Botahtaung Township yesterday, attended by Minister for Education U Than Aung.

Minister U Than Aung explained education promotion programme and other education sector.

Then, the basic education schools received 1,775 packets of paper recycled from 42.225 tons of old exercise books which were donated by students.

(7) Voters of Kalaywa Township express no confidence in NLD representative-elect

YANGON, 30 July – Over 20,490 eligible voters of Kalaywa Township Constituency Sagaing Division, submitted signed declarations expression no confidence in U Tin Maung who was elected as Pyithu Hluttaw Representative of National League for Democracy in the 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election from Kalaywa Township Constituency and no support for him at the rallies held at Kalaywa Kyaungtaik Dhammayon, Naungphanan Village Tract, Pangyisu Village Tract and Segyi Village Tract in Kalaywa Township on 11 July morning.

(8) 11 members resign from Ngazun Township NLD

YANGON, 30 July – Eleven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Ngazun Township, Sagaing Division.

Eleven members of Ngazun Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letter of resignations to Ngazun Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 30 June 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
