YANGON, 26 July – Chairman of the-State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe and wife Daw Kyaing Kyaing and family have donated a golden pagoda that is a replica of Shwedagon Pagoda to be kept at Shwemotehtaw Pagoda in Kyaukse for reverence by the general public. Senior General Than Shwe and Daw Kyaing Kyaing, accompanied by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye and wife Daw Mya Mya San, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, wife of Secretary-1 of the Stat Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and wife Daw Khin Than Nwe, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than and wife, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and wife, the ministers and officials paid obeisance to the Golden Pagoda at Mingaladon Air Base on 24 July just before it was conveyed on Tatmadaw aircraft from Yangon.
Daw Kyaing Kyaing and Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife Daw Khin Cho Oo, accompanied by Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, senior military officers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and departmental heads, conveyed the pagoda by Tatmadaw flight.
They arrived at Mandalay Airport at 9.45 am.
Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife handed the Golden Pagoda to Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint and wife.
Daw Kyaing Kyaing and Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife and party left for Lashio by Tatmadaw flight and arrived there at 11.15 am.
Daw Kyaing Kyaing and Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, accompanied by the commander and wife and Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, left Lashio for Mongyai Township by helicopter.
Daw Kyaing Kyaing and Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife and party spent the night in Mongyai.

(2) Four-day course opened for AGTI Diploma holders serving under Ministry of Industry-2
YANGON, 26 July – Patron of Myanma Industrial Development Committee Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo today attended the opening ceremony of the course for AGTI Diploma holders, who will serve in the Ministry of Industry-2.
The ceremony held at No-1 Transit Centre on Bayintnaung Road was also attended by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Chairman of MIDC Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Deputy Ministers for Industry-2 U Thein Tun and Brig-Gen Aung Thein Lwin, Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Director of Signals Brig-Gen Aung Myint, Deputy Director of Military Engineers Col Khin Maung Myint departmental heads of the Ministry of Industry-2, other officials and course instructor, among others.
In his address, Lt-Gen Tin Oo lauded the AGTI Diploma holders who would discharge duties as government employees in reciprocation of the government's nurturing them at the respective technical institutes.
He spoke of the importance of industrial development for the nation, and noted that as an industrialized nation could not be built by jumping over the intermediate steps, basic industrial establishments are being developed while priority is being paid to development of the agriculture sector, which forms the basis of the national economy.
As majority are engaged in the agriculture sector, which has been their primary business for generations, they are skillful in the work he said and added that as the country also has a lot of land and water resources, the objective for development of the agriculture sector as the base for industrial being made for step-by-step development of the industry sector.
He also spoke of the endeavours for human resources development, opening of technological universities, technical institutes and technical high schools, and regular and part-time courses.
He also spoke of the formation of the 13-member Industrial Development Central Committee led by General Maung Aye to coordinate the tasks for industrial development and give guidelines to develop both the State-owned and the private-owned sectors, establishment of the industrial zones, and the crucial role of cooperation between the State-owned and the private-owned sectors.
In conclusion, the Secretary-2 urged the trainees to be keen on the lectures and actively take part in the nation-building tasks.
Afterwards, Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin made a speech.
Altogether 451 AGTI Diploma holders are attending the four-day course.

(3) Coordination meeting held on production of import substitute goods
YANGON, 26 July – A coordination meeting on production of import substitute goods was held at the Ministry of Industry-1 this afternoon, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint, Deputy Ministers for Industry-1 Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, Deputy Minister for Industry-2 U Thein Tun, Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, Officer on Special Duty at the State-Peace and Development Council Office Lt-Col Than Tint, departmental officials and national entrepreneurs.
Next, Po Kaung Co, Tet Nay Co and Shwe Padonma Co reported on cultivation of oil palm, production of raw oil and First Top Co on production of soap. Officials also reported on raw materials, production of finished goods.
The deputy ministers reported on ministries' assistance to the entrepreneurs.
The Secretary-2 then attended to the needs.

(4) Tatmadaw safeguarding the State and lives and property of people; Striving for well-being of people and improvement of living conditions; Sacrifice of life and limb for country and people is highest honour
YANGON, 26 July – A ceremony to provide cash assistance for life to in-service disabled Tatmadawmen of battalions under North-East Command was held at the command in Lashio on 24 July morning, attended by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint.
Also present on the occasion were member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander of North-East Command Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Brig-Gen Soe Htay of Lashio Station, Deputy Commander of North-East Command Brig-Gen San Thein and senior military officers, departmental officials and well-wishers.
He added that out of 60 disabled Tatmadawmen from battalions and units under North-East Command, 18 have been provided with K 100,000 each according to the arrangements of the Head of State and the Directorate of Resettlement.
Today, cash assistance will be provided for the remaining 42 disabled Tatmadawmen.
In conclusion, he thanked associations which donated cash and well-wishers.
The Secretary-3 accepted donations including K 1.5 million by Thanmyanthu (Mandalay-Muse) Transport Services, K 500,000 by Asia World Company Ltd of Yangon and K 500,000 by U Soe Myint (Ngwehsin Construction) of Muse.
Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Brig-Gen Soe Htay, U Soe Myint (Ngwehsin Construction) and representatives of Asia World Company Ltd handed over share certificates worth K 100,000 each to 42 in-service disabled Tatmadawmen.
After the ceremony, the Secretary-3 had a cordial meeting with in-service disabled Tatmadawmen.

YANGON, 26 July – The Malaysia-Myanmar Business Seminar, co-sponsored by Ministry of Commerce of the Union of Myanmar, Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce & Industry and the Malaysian Embassy, was held at the Traders Hotel this morning.
Present on the occasion were Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Ministers at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel and Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Deputy Ministers for Commerce Commodore Myo Tint and Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan, Parliament Secretary of Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia Mr Kamaruzaman Baria, Ambassador of Malaysia Dato Mohamad bin Noh, embassy staff, departmental heads, President of UMFCCI U Win Myint, Vice-Presidents U Htein Win and Daw San San Yi, CEC members, Myanmar entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs of 49 Malaysian business groups and guests.

In the afternoon, Malaysian and Myanmar entrepreneurs discussed investment opportunities. The seminar, ended in the evening.

(6) Foundation laid to build Pyithaya Hsutaungpyi Pagoda in Mongyai
YANGON, 26 July – The ceremony to lay foundation on Maha Myat Muni Hill in Mongyai Township, Lashio District, Shan State (North), was held on 25 July in the township to build Pyithaya Hsutaungpyi Pagoda on the hill.
Daw Kyaing Kyaing, wife of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe, and Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint attended the ceremony.
Daw Kyaing Kyaing sprinkled scented water on the foundation.
Daw Kyaing Kyaing, Lt-Gen Win Myint and wife, Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo and wife and ministers offered day meal to Sayadaws at Hsaimaing Monastery.

(7) Caterpillar, Lamborghini and Weir Agricultural Equipment and Implements Seminar held
YANGON, 27 July – The Caterpillar, Lamborghini and Weir Agricultural Equipment and Implements Seminar, cosponsored by Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and Myanmar Tractors and Trading Co Ltd (MTTC), was held at the Sedona Hotel this morning, with an address by Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin.
Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister U Ohn Myint, directors-general and managing directors, guests, officials of MTTC.
Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin gave a speech.
Chairman of MTTC Mr A Mazumdar extended greetings.
Mr Steve Fifer, Mr E Rizato and Mr Douglas Morton explained heavy earth moving equipment and other heavy machinery produced by Caterpillar, farm machineries and implements manufactured by Lamborghini and water pumps and related equipment by Weir Engineering Pte Ltd with the aid of slides.
Afterwards, Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin and Deputy Minister U Ohn Myint inspected the heavy machinery and agricultural equipment of companies.
General Manager Mr Heinz Ludi of Myanmar Tractors and Trading Co Ltd spoke words of thanks.

(8) Minister for Transport inspects Myanma Shipyards
YANGON, 26 July – Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint and U Pe Than and officials, inspected Myanma Shipyards today.
The minister and party heard reports on construction of low-draught Thallawady vessel for Chindwin River and maintenance of Myat Yadana vessel for plying at Bagan-NyaungU.
Afterwards, they inspected docking facilities, and construction of the sea-going and coastal liner, and later went round in the shipyards.

YANGON, 26 July – Fifty-six members resigned from National League for Democracy of Pyapon Township, Ayeyawady Division.
Fifty-six members of Pyapon Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own
volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Pyapon Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 25
December 1998 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
