(1)  Secretary-1 leads in cleaning rites at Hsutaungpyi Padamya Myetshin Buddha Image at Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON, 25 July – The cleansing ceremony of Hsutaungpyi Padamya Myetshin Buddha Image on the upper terrace of the Shwedagon Pagoda was held at Aryonkhan Tazaung in front of Padamya Myetshin Buddha Image at 5.30 am today, attended by Patron of Leading Committee for All-round Perpetual Renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present on the occasion were Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Chairman of Leading Committee for All-round Perpetual Renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Chairman of Work Committee for All-round Perpetual Renovation of Shwedagon Pagoda eputy Commander of Yangon Command Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, memberships the Board of Trustees and well-wishers.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, ministers and party received the Nine Precepts from the Sayadaw.

Director-General of Religious Affairs Department U Arnt Maung supplicated on cleansing of Hsutaungpyi Padamya Myetshin Buddha Image.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt cleansed the Hsutaungpyi Padamya Myetshin Buddha Image with scented water.

The Secretary-1 and party offered flowers, water, lights, fruits, 'soon' and offertories to the Buddha Image.

Later, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party read the Anekajatisamsararn Gahta, followed by sharing of merits.

Then, a ceremony to hand over gold for donation of Shwedagon Pagoda was held at Old Museum Tazaung on the pagoda platform of the Pagoda.

With the patronage of parents, well-wishers U Than Htut-Daw Wah Wah Win Shwe and son Win Htut Win presented four viss of gold worth K 20 million for Shwedagon Pagoda to Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt who handed a certificate of honour to them.

After the ceremony, officials reported to the Secretary-1 on arrangements for publishing of books on the history of Shwedagon Pagoda and books on engineering works to mark the successful Shwehtidaw hoisting ceremony of the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended to their needs.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected the renovation of relgious buildings on the platform of the pagoda and left.

(2)  Secretary-1 inspects preparatory works for establishement of model farms in Kyauktan Township

YANGON, 25 July – Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt today inspected preparatory works for reclamation of land and establishment of model agricultural farms in Kyauktan region.

He was accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Ministers at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel and Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Deputy Minister for Energy U Tin Tun, Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Chief of Staff (Air) Brig-Gen Myint Swe, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads and officials.

They went to Kyauktan by Tatmadaw helicopter and arrived there at 8.15 am.

The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by members of the District and Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental officials and personnel, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross, Fire Brigades, Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Township Working Committee for Women's Affairs, and others.

At Yadana Hall of the Township Peace and Development Council Office, the Secretary-1 met with the officials and discussed the plans for reclamation of land for establishment of modern agricultural farms.

The Secretary-1 discussed cultivation with the use of modern technique, changing from manual farming to mechanized farming with the cooperation of private entrepreneurs, arrangements for pilot model farm, livestock breeding.

Ywalekyaungtaik Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sumana presented antiques – a 100-year old thabeik, soon-oke and ancient palm leaves to the Secretary-1.

The Secretary-1 and party arrived back here in the evening.

(3)  New WVO Headquarters Office opened

YANGON, 25 July – A ceremony to open new headquarters building of Myanmar War Veterans Organization was held at the building near the junction of Pyay Road and Mayangon Road this morning.

Present on the occasion were member of WVO Central Organizing Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Secretary of WVO COC Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Joint-Secretary Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Deputy Minister for Labour Brig-Gen Win Sein, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Director of Public Relations and Psychological Warfare Brig-Gen Khin Aung Myint, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, senior military officers, chairmen and secretaries of Township WVOs in Yangon Division, departmental heads and guests.

Minister Brig-Gen Sein Win and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung formally opened the building.

They then donated Waso robes and provisions to member of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Ghathavac, aka Pandita Bago Sasana Mandaingkyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pannasiha and Sayadaws and shared merits gained.

(4)  Sittway branch of Yoma Bank Ltd opened

YANGON, 25 July – A ceremony to open Sittway branch of Yoma Bank Ltd was held at the branch in Sittway, Rakhine State, this morning.

It was attended by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen Aung Htwe, Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Commander of Danyawady Naval Region Command Commodore Myat Swe, Governor of Central Bank of Myanmar U Kyaw Kyaw Maung, officials, Chairman of Yoma Bank Ltd U Thein Wai and officials, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association and guests.

It is the twenty-eighth branch of the Bank.

Minister U Khin Maung Thein gave a speech.

Chairman of Yoma Bank Ltd U Thein Wai explained progress of the bank.

Afterwards, Commander Maj-Gen Aung Htwe, Minister U Khin Maung Thein and Bank Chairman U Thein Wai formally opened the branch.

(5)  Ministers visit multipurpose reservoir projects

YANGON, 25 July – Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China Mr Liang Dong and officials of the Chinese embassy and officials of the ministries concerned, together with local authorities, inspected Mone Creek Multipurpose Reservoir Project, Paunglaung Multipurpose Reservoir Project, Thaphanseik Multipurpose Reservoir Project and construction of diversion tunnels for power generation in Magway, Mandalay and Sagaing Divisions on 23 and 24 July.

The ministers, the ambassador and officials of the embassy and the ministries concerned arrived at Bagan-NyaungU Airport on 23 July and, proceeded to Mone Creek Multipurpose Reservoir Project in Sedoktara Township, Magway Division, by helicopter.

The ministers and party, together with chairmen of Minbu District and Township Peace and Development Councils and those in charge of construction works, inspected construction of the entrance of the diversion tunnel.

Officials of Irrigation Department and Myanma Electric Power Enterprise reported on works for diverting the water flow of Mone Creek and works for power generation.

Then, they inspected construction of the main embankment and the exit of the diversion tunnel and the digging works for construction of the hydroelectric power plant.

The ministers and officials gave instructions on works to the officials.

Later, the ministers and party visited the construction site of the spillway of Mone Creek Reservoir.

The ministers gave instructions on digging works and concrete-laying works.

Then, the ministers and party inspected construction of the diversion tunnel and the spillway.

On 24 July, they went to Thaphanseik Multipurpose Reservoir Project in Kyunhla Township, Sagaing Division.

Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister Maj-Gen Tin Htut, together with district and township authorities, inspected the project.

In the briefing hall of Irrigation Department, Director U Maung Maung Tin of Construction No 4 of Irrigation Department reported on progress of work in implementing the project and Deputy Chief Engineer (Hydroelectric Power) of MEPE U Win Kyaw on works being undertaken by MEPE.

Director-General U Myo Myint gave a supplementary report on construction works of the reservoir.

The commander and the ministers gave instructions on works.

The ministers and the ambassador of PRC presented gifts to technicians.

In the briefing hall of MEPE near the site chosen for construction of the hydroelectric power, officials reported on construction works.

Afterwards, they inspected construction of the service spillway and the auxiliary spillway, and gave instructions on the works.

(6)  Western Command donates Waso robes to Sayadaws

YANGON, 25 July – The Western Command held eighth Waso robes offering ceremony at Bandoola Hall of the command headquarters yesterday mooring.

It was attended by Commander of Western Command Maj-Gen Aung Htwe and wife, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Aung Thein and wife, Commander of Danyawady Naval Region Command Commodore Myat Swe and wife, staff officers and their wives Naval and Army officers and guests.

Chairman of Rakhine State Sangha Nayaka Committee (Shwekyin) Kyatkaingdan Sayadaw Maha Ghanthavacaka Pandita Bhaddanta Candalankara administered the Five Precepts.

Commander Maj-Gen Aung Htwe and wife and well-wishers donated Waso robs and provisions to 22 members of the Sangha.

Then, Chairman of Rakhine State Sangha Nayaka Committee (Sudharnma) Dekkhinaram Kyaung Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Canda delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

(7)  Affiliated BEMS building opened in Shwesitthi Village, Meiktila

YANGON, 25 July – A ceremony to hand over Affiliated Basic Education Middle School to the Ministry of Education was held in conjunction with a stake driving ceremony for Basic Education High School in Shwesitthi Village, Meiktila Township, on 23 July morning.

Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt and Commander of No 99 LID Brig-Gen Htay Oo formally opened the new affiliated school building.

Chairman of Meiktila District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myo Myint handed over the documents related to the school building to the Mandalay Division Education Officer and certificates to the well-wishers.

Then, the minister, the deputy minister and the LID commander inspected the new school building.

At the auspicious time, the minister, the deputy minister and officials drove stakes for BEHS building.

(8)  Commander inspects construction of Hsinphyushin Bridge

YANGON, 25 July – A coordination meeting for greening of Hsinphyushin Bridge's environment was held at construction site of Hsinphyushin Bridge in ChaungU Township, Sagaing Division, on 21 July morning.

Present on the occasion were Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Thein Zaw, Rector of University for Development of National Races Col Zaw Min Thein, Officiating Tactical Operation Commander Lt-Col Tin Naing Thein, the Secretary of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council, chairmen of Monywa, Sagaing and Pakokku District Peace and Development Councils, heads of department, officials of Myanma Railways and Public Works.

Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win spoke on the occasion.

Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Thein Zaw reported on their activities to the commander.

Officials explained about the progress in construction of Hsinphyushin Bridge.

The Commander attended to their needs.

Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win gave instructions.

The Commander and party inspected construction of Hsinphyushin Bridge and left there.

(9)  58 members resign from Pale Township NLD

YANGON, 25 July – Fifty-eight members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Pale Township, Sagaing Division.

Fifty-eight members of Pale Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to pale Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 17 January 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
