YANGON, 22 July – At the invitation of the Chairman of the 32nd ASEAN Standing Committee and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore Mr S Jayakumar, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung left here by air this morning for Singapore to attend the 32nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM), sixth ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) to be held from 23 to 28 July in Singapore.
Minister U Win Aung was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Ambassadors of Laos, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia Cambodia, and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador of Myanmar to Malaysia U Saw Tun, Ambassador of Myanmar to Thailand U Hla Maung, Ambassador of Myanmar to Singapore U Myo Myint, Director-General of the ASEAN Affairs Department U Aye Lwin, Director-General of the Political Department U Nyunt Maung Shein, Head of Department of the Office of Strategic Studies Col Thein Swe, Director of the ASEAN Affairs Department Daw Than Than Htay, Counsellor of Myanmar Embassy in Singapore U Myint Soe and Assistant Director of Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Aung Htoo will attend the meetings.

(2) Minister inspects Hline River Bridge Project
YANGON, 22 July – Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Deputy Minister U Tint Swe and officials, visited Hline River Bridge Project (Shwepyitha) in Shwepyitha Township this afternoon.
Assistant Engineer U Soe Min reported on progress of work in implementing the project.
The minister gave instructions on timely completion of construction works, work-site safety and systematic use of construction materials.
Hline River Bridge, linking Shwepyitha Township and Hlinethaya Township, is 3,415 feet long, and its has 52-fool and 6-inch motor-way and two 6-foot-wide pedestrian lanes on its either side. The bridge car bear 60 ton loads.

(3) Renovation of ancient religious buildings in progress in Bagan-NyaungU
YANGON, 22 July – Minister for Culture U Win Sein inspected Pagoda No 820, which is being renovated with the donations presented by Venerable Shi Fazhao of Golden Temple of Singapore and well-wishers, in Bagan-NyaungU yesterday.
Accompanied by Director-General of Archaeology Department U Nyunt Han and officials, the minister inspected the 11th Century artifacts excavated from the pagoda compound.
Ancient murals and statutes inside the pagoda should be restored for their durability, the minister stressed.
The minister and party then inspected renovation of the lake, the two-storey monastery and the Dhammathala Chamber and the ordination which are included in a group of ancient edifices built by King Hsinbyutasishin Thihathu of Pinya era.
In his meeting with officials, the minister stressed the need to build a road to ensure easy access to the compound of the religious buildings, to beautify the compound and to restore the ancient buildings to their original style.
At the Pagoda No 761, the minister and party observed the 11th Century Buddha images and other objects found near the pagoda, which is being renovated by Yangon City Development Committee.
Of the 892 near-collapse religious buildings in Bagan cultural region, excavation has been completed at 447 buildings and another 113 have been restored to their original design. Of the 1175 pagodas which were projected to be renovated, 1008 have been restored to their original design.

(4) Minister meets ROK Forestry Administrator
YANGON, 22 July – Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone met a delegation led by Administrator of Forestry Administration of Republic o I Korea Mr Kim Dongkeun, accompanied by Ambassador of ROK Mr Chung I Jung-Gum, who called at International Business Centre on Pyay Road at 7 am today.
Also present at the call were Deputy Minister Col Thaik Tun and heads of departments under the Ministry.

(5) Commander inspects Bo Myat Tun Bridge Project, reclamation of wetlands
YANGON, 22 July – Chairman of Ayeyawady Division Peace and Development Council Commander of South-West Command Maj-Gen Thura Shwe Mann, Chairman of Maubin District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col J Han Shein and departmental officials, arrived at the office of Bo Myat Tun Bridge Project (Nyaungdon) on the bank of Pathein on 21 July morning.
Deputy Chief Engineer (Project) U Pe Than reported on progress of work of the project.
The commander inspected the project site.
Then, the commander proceeded to the guest house of Irrigation Department in Dhanubyu, and met with Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint and departmental officials.
They discussed reclamation of wetlands in Pantanaw Township, cultivation of crops, availability of water and providing of assistance for national entrepreneurs.
Afterwards; the commander went to the work-site office of CES Company Ltd reclaiming 2,743 acres of wetlands in Moegoak-Dedoak (North) Wetlands, Pantanaw Township.
Chairman of the Company Dr Ye Naing Win and officials reported on completion of reclamation of 1,700 acres of wetlands, cultivation of monsoon paddy on 800 acres and arrangements for cultivation of summer paddy on 800 acres, beans and pulses on 300 acres and oil crops on 4,000.
The commander and party inspected the agricultural work of the company.
In the evening, the commander and party went to the work-site office of Shwethanlwin Company Ltd which is reclaiming 2,914 acres of wetlands in Moegoak-Dedoak (North) wetlands.
Chairman of the Company U Kyaw Win and officials reported on completion of reclamation of 1,938 acres, cultivation of monsoon paddy on 1,500 acres of wetlands, arrangements for growing summer paddy on 2,000 acres, regional development and staff welfare.
The commander gave instructions on the works.

(6) Myanmar, ROK to enhance forest-sector cooperation
YANGON, 22 July – Myanmar and the Republic of Korea today agreed to enhance cooperation in the forest sector. Director-General of Forest Department of the Ministry of Forestry Dr Kyaw Tint and Director-General of Forestry Policy Bureau of Forestry Administration of ROK Mr Park Jung Sik signed the contract on Arrangement between Forest Administration of ROK and the Ministry of Forestry of Myanmar Concerning Cooperation in the field of forestry at Forest Department this morning.
Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun and Administrator of Forestry Administration of ROK Mr Kim Dong Keun and officials.
Mr Kim Dong Keun and party will also visit Bagan-NyaungU to study setting up of forest plantations in NyaungU Township with the assistance of Korean-based Korea International; Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
They will also visit the arid region greening projects being undertaken by the government, other greening projects being implemented with the help of intentional organizations and Popa Mountain Park.
The Korean delegation led by Mr Kim Dong-keum arrived here by air yesterday evening.
Members of the delegation were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Col Thaik Tun, heads of department, Ambassador of Korea Mr Chung Jung Gum and officials.

(7) Mayor inspects training of Myanmar Bowling Team (Men)
YANGON, 22 July – Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, accompanied by officials, inspected modern sports ground and buildings in Shukhintha Amusement Park- in Thakayta and training of Myanmar bowling team this afternoon.
Mayor U Ko Lay inspected the Shukhintha Amusement Park and gave instructions to officials.
Then, U Ko Lay arrived at Point Bowling Club and inspected training of Myanmar Bowling Team (Men) to take part in XX South East Asia Game in Brunei.

(8) 48 members resign from Singaing Township NLD
YANGON, 22 July – Forty-eight members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Singaing Township, Mandalay Division.
Forty-eight members of Singaing Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own
volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Singaing Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned
on 3 May 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
