(1) Secretary-1 attends second Waso robes offering ceremony of Bangladesh Kyaungtaik
YANGON, 17 July The second Waso robes offering ceremony of Bangladesh Kyaungtaik was held at the Kyaungtaik in Myittanyunt Ward in Tamway Township this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
The congregation received the Five Precepts from Sayadaw Bhaddanta Suriyabhivamsa.
The Sayadaws then recited Parittas.
The Secretary-1 and wife Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe presented Waso robes and offertories to the Syadaws.
The Secretary-1 presented K 500,000 donated by the State Peace and Development Council for Dattawshin Pagoda to be built by Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pannajota in Ywadaw in Bangladesh to Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa.

(3) Multi-media classroom opened at Tamway Basic Education High School No 4
YANGON, 17 July An opening ceremony of the multi-media classroom of Tamway Basic Education High School No 4 was held at the school this afternoon, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
First, the Secretary-l and party inspected computerized teaching and learning section, demonstrative media section, language study section and educational broadcasting section of the multimedia classroom, domestic science room, school clinic and laboratory. The opening ceremony of the multi-media classroom was held in Myatpan Thazin Hall of Tamway BEHS 4.
Chairman of the School Board of Trustees Thiha Thudhamma Manijotadhara Thaddhamma Jotikadhaja Shwemyintin U Nyo spoke about the efforts for opening of the multi-media classroom with the contributions of the School Board of Trustees, PTA and well-wishers. Headmistress Daw Hla Sein also spoke of the aims for opening the multi-media classroom, its sections and functions.
The Secretary-1 signed in the visitors' book and made a speech. In conclusion, he called on all school boards of trustees, parents, well-wishers and teachers to strive together with the government for the students to become patriotic intelligentsia and intellectuals.

(4) Commander inspects development, agricultural works in Yangon Division
YANGON, 17 July Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, accompanied by officials, inspected regional development works and agricultural works of Yangon North District and Hlegu Township this afternoon. First, the commander inspected construction of Bala Bridge Project on No 7 Bypass Road linking No 1 Highway and No 2 Highway.
He was welcomed there by Tactical Operations Commander Col Thein Htaik of Yemon Station and Commandant of Mingaladon Station Lt-Col Win Naung. In the briefing hall, U Than Lwin, officer in charge of the project, reported on progress of work of the project and Superintending Engineer of Yangon Division Public Works U Soe Nyunt on construction of bridges on No 7 Highway and those to be constructed.
The commander gave instructions on their reports. The bridge will be 150 feet long and 18 feet wide and is scheduled to complete in October this year.

(5) Minister inspects bank erosion at Nyaundon
YANGON, 17 July Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy Minister U Pe Than, Director-General of Water Resources and Development of Rivers and Creeks Department Captain (Navy) Chit Khin and officials inspected erosion of banks of Panhlaing River and dredging of Htamalo canal this morning.
Construction of Kathwekway canal shortens Nyaungdon-Yangon waterway along Panhlaing River and prevents embankment erosion. The minister and party inspected arrangements for maintenance of banks in Nyaundon Township, waterway to Bo Myat Tun Bridge and Setkawt waterway development. The Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council reported on preventive measures for bank erosion.

(6) Appointment of Ambassador of Norway agreed on
YANGON, 18 July The Government of the Union of Myanmar has agreed to the appointment of HE Mr Lars Albert Wensell as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to the Union of Myanmar in succession to His Excellency Mr Knut Solem.
H E Mr Lars Albert Wensell was born in 1944 and obtained M.A. degree in Law in 1971.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1972 and has served in various capacities in the Norwegian Foreign Ministry and at diplomatic missions in Rotterdam, Rome and Copenhagen.
He is currently serving as Norwegian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand and will be concurrently accredited to the Union of Myanmar with residence in Bangkok.
He is married.

(7) Minister inspects road construction works
YANGON, 17 July Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, accompanied by officials, met officials of Road Transport, Transport Planning Department, Road Transport Administration Department and Myanma Railways at Pakokku Railway Station on 14 July.
The minister gave necessary instructions.
The minister inspected search for the axis of Seikphyu-Pakokku section of Kyangin-Pakokku Road. He then met local people of Gawunlaydaing Village and gave instructions on striving for regional development.
On 15 July, Minister U Pan Aung tended the opening of wall magazine of service personnel of Public Works at the office of Hsinbyushin Bridge Construction Project.

(8) Ministry of Commerce holds Waso robes offering ceremony
YANGON, 17 July The fourth Waso robes offering ceremony of the Ministry of Commerce and Directorate of Trade was held at Ariya Mandaing Sarthintaik in Mayangon Township this morning. Sayadaw Bhaddanta Silacara administered the Five Precepts. Minister Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, wife Daw Sein Sein and officials donated Waso robes and provisions to the Sayadaws.
Then, the minister presented K 746,325 for Soonsarkyaung under construction to officials. After the ceremony, they offered 'soon' to the Sayadaws.

(9) Myanmar delegation arrives back
YANGON, 17 July A Myanmar goodwill delegation led by Chairman of the Union of Myanmar Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing arrived back here by is morning after visiting the Russian Federation at the invitation of the Federal Security Bureau of the Russian Federation.
The minister and party were welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Information Progress of Border Areas , Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, directors-general and officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Charge d'Affaires ai of the Russian Federation Mr Alexander Sedov, Military Attachι Col Vladimir I Kontchakov and officials. Member of the delegation -Staff Brig-Gen (Operations) Brig- Gen Myint Swe of the Ministry of Defence and Director Police Col Khin Aung of CCDAC Office-also arrived back on the same flight.

(10) Minister inspects livestock breeding works
YANGON, 17 July Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, accompanied by officials, arrived at poultry farm to be run by Maykha Industry Ltd in Kalagon Village, Hmawby Township, this morning.
Managing Director Dr Ye Naing Win of Maykha Industry Ltd reported to the minister on functions of the farm and seeking the market with audio-visual aids.
The minister fulfilled the requirements. The minister and party proceeded to the farm of Management Training School for executives of Union Solidarity and Development Association where officials reported on works being undertaken for the farm. The minister attended to their needs. This was followed by inspection of the farm by the minister and party.
Afterwards, the minister and party went on to Head Office of Livestock, Feedstuff and Dairy Products Enterprise on Station Road, Insein, where they met with livestock entrepreneurs and left necessary instructions on the use of technology and transformation of self-reliant livestock breeding into commercial scale.
In the evening, the minister and party inspected the poultry farm of U Tin Win Hlaing in Htantabin Township which was installed with air-conditioned system.

(11) Minister inspects installation of radio equipment at microwave stations
YANGON, 17 July Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin inspected in Thayawady on 13 July the installation of Yangon-Mandalay new microwave link for development of the western section of the Ayeyawady River and border areas. He inspected installation of radio equipment at the microwave stations in Thayawady, Zigon and Pyay.
He inspected construction of the microwave stations in Gyogon Village, Padaung Township, near Shantatgyi Village in Minbu Township, in Kantoke Village in Minbu Township, and in Minbu.
On 14 July, the minister inspected the weather station in Magway, and installation of radio equipment at the microwave station in Yenangyoung. In Pakokku, he met with the executives of Pakokku District Union Solidarity and Development Association, and inspected installation of radio equipment at the microwave station on Keinnaya Hill.

(12) Minister for Information inspects construction of MMPE Head Office
YANGON, 17 July Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung inspected Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise Head Office under construction on Shwetaunggya Road in Bahan Township this afternoon.
Minister Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, on arrival at the construction site, was welcomed by Managing Director of MMPE Col Bo Kyi, Deputy Director (Features Film) U Tin Tun and officials of Myanmar Growing Construction Co Ltd.
The minister inspected the site and gave inspected on construction of a modern building. The construction started in August 1997 and 99 per cent is complete so far.

(14) Stimulants, Phensedyl, heroin seized in Tamway, Dawbon
YANGON, 17 July A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Mohamad Bila, son of U Suleiman of 24, 136th Street, Maugon Ward, Tamway Township, on 26 June.
They nabbed Mohamad Bila with WY brand 47 stimulant tablets and 60 liters of Phensedyl.
On 27 June, acting on information, while waiting in Min Kyaw Cafe near Minnanda Road in Dawbon Township, the team nabbed Aung Myo Thein, son of U Hsoe Ni of 338, Myoma 10th Street, Ward 4 (North), Thakayta, together with heroin weighing 39.12238 grams.
Action is taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Pyapon Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 25
December 1998 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
