(1) Senior General Than Shwe sends felicitations to Mongolia

YANGON, 11 July – On the occasion of the anniversary of the People's Revolution Day of Mongolia, which falls on 11 July 1999, Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Natsagiin Bazabandi, President of Mongolia.

(2) Secretary-1 offers 'soon' to 1,000 Nyeinchan Mingala members of Sangha in Myainggyingu

YANGON 10 July – A ceremony to offer 'soon' to 1,000 Nyeinchan Mingala members of the Sangha was held at new two-storey soon-sa-kyaung of new Aung Mingala Kyaung in Son-na-tha-myaing Swe-myo-daw (Myainggyingu) in Hlaingbwe Township, Kayin State, this morning, attended by Chairman of Work Committee for Development Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
 

Present on the occasion were 1,000 members of the Sangha led by Myainggyingu Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sujana, Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Myint Aung, the ministers, the deputy ministers, senior military officers, Chairman of Kayin State Peace and Development Council Col Saw Khin Soe, Director-General of the State Peace and Development Council Office Lt-Col Pe Nyein, departmental officials, members of State, District and Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental personnel, well-wisher Shwethanlwin Co disciples and local residents.

(3) Secretary-1 inspects development of Kayin State

YANGON, 10 July – Chairman of Work Committee for Development of Border Areas and .National Races Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt left here for Hpa-an, Kayin State, by Tatmadaw aircraft this morning and arrived there at 9 am.

In his address, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said today, people are enjoying the fruits of peace and stability prevailing all over the country, and as there is peace in Kayin State, the region is also having good progress.

He spoke of emergence of armed insurrection as the ill legacy of colonialism after having fallen under colonial rule for over 100 years and the successive government's efforts to end the armed insurrection, and noted that due to suspicions among national brethren. misunderstanding, political cult and extreme racism, the efforts to make peace had not been successful.

One of the main causes obvious for failure of those peace efforts was the neocolonialists' giving assistance and support to the armed groups to have more extreme ideologies and cause greater suspicion he said and added that Tatmadaw, after taking up State duties in 1988, lunched offensives against BCPs at Mongyang and KNUs at Methawaw to fight the two groups who wanted to capitalize politically.

Then, Phado Aung San reported on agriculture, livestock breeding and development of the region, Minister Col Thein Nyunt on tasks being carried out with the assistance of the State for regional development.

In giving instructions, the Secretary-1 spoke of the need for all to be in unity for increase in economic under-taking and for well-being of families.

If agricultural and livestock breeding works are successful, living standard of the people will be uplifted and good economic foundations be established, he said and added he was delighted to see success of agricultural and livestock breeding works of the village.

The Secretary-1 and Phado Aung San then exchanged changed souvenirs. The Secretary-1 cordially met with U Saw Tha Mu He and fulfilled requirements of farming equipment. Next, the Secretary-l1inspected primary school of the village and poultry farms.

They then proceeded to No-1 Tyre and Rubber Factory where they were welcomed by Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, departmental officials, USDA members and local people.

Maj-Gen Saw Lwin reported on works being carried out for meeting targets for production and Managing Director of Myanma Tyre and Rubber Industries Lt-Col U Zun on the factory and production.

After this he said the Tatmadaw started to carry out national reconsolidating tasks for perpetuation of the unity of the national brethren residing in the Union.

The Secretary-1 inspected special intensive care unit, operation theatre and annexe of the hospital.

The Secretary-1 and party also inspected construction of Yadanadipa Ward No 9 of Hap-an. Then, they left for Yangon and arrived back in the afternoon. Secretary-General of USDA U Than Aung, USDA CEC members Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Col Thein Nyunt, Brig-Gen Khin Maung and Brig-Gen Thein Aung, who were accompanying the Secretary-1, inspected computer room of Kayin State USDA Office and gave instructions on community works and training courses to be carried out.

Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun met service personnel of departments under the ministry at Hpa-an Myanma Insurance Office this morning and inspected Hpa-an Myanma Economic Bank.

(4) Secretary-2 receives Vietnamese delegation

YANGON, 10 July – Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo received a museum study delegation led by Sr Col Lee Ma Luong of Vietnamese Army who called at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence this afternoon.

Also present at the call were Vice Adjutant-Genera Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Director of Public Relations and Psychological Warfare Brig-Gen Khin Aung Myint, Deputy Quartermaster-General Col Zaw Lin, Colonel General Staff (Air) (Mechanical) Col Hlaing Bwa, Director of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute Col Ye Htut and senior military officers.

The Vietnamese delegation was accompanied by Ambassador of Vietnam Mr Nguyen Dang Khoa and Military Attachι Sr Col Nguyen Ngoc Lu.

(5) Secretary-3 attends dinner in honour of badminton players

YANGON, 10 July – The Leading Committee for Holding of Golden Eagle Asian Juniors Badminton Championship 1999 hosted dinner at Karaweik Palace at Kandawgyi this evening in honour of players who will take part in the championship.

Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Chairman of the Leading Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win and the President of Asian Badminton Confederation Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand gave speeches.

(6) Five-storey hostel opened at Yangon Education Centre for the Blind (Khaweigyan)

YANGON, 10 July – The inauguration ceremony of a five-storey hostel of Yangon Education Centre for the Blind (Khaweigyan) was held at the new hostel this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

It was built at a cost of over K 43 million. Also present were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Ministers at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung and Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Deputy Minister for Labour Brig-Gen Win Sein, Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Vice-Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint, Officer on Special Duty at the State Peace and Development Council Office Lt-Col Than Tint and departmental heads, Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai, officials and guests.

Patron of the Leading Committee for building the five-storey men's hostel Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Ambassador Mr Kazuo Asakai, and General Secretary of Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind U Thein Lwin formally opened the hostel.

Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo formally unveiled the signboard. At the inauguration ceremony continued in the hostel, Brig-Gen Pyi Soe, Brig-Gen Lun Maung and Ambassador Mr Kazuo Asakai made speeches.

Afterwards, the Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council spoke about construction of the hostel.

General Secretary of Myanmar Christian Fellowship of the Blind U Thein Lwin presented the commemorative pennants to Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and Ambassador Mr Kazuo Asakai.

(7) Minister inspects preparation for badminton c'ship

YANGON, 10 July – Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, accompanied by Director-General Col Thaung Htaik of Sports and Physical Education Department and officials, inspected preparation for the Golden Eagle Asian Juniors Badminton Championship 1999 and shops. He then gave necessary instructions.

(8) Minister inspects factories in Yangon

YANGON, 10 July – Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, accompanied by departmental heads, arrived at Thingangyun Garment Factory No 15 in Bo Kan Nyunt Ward, Thingangyun Township, this morning and inspected warehouses, weaving machines to be repaired and boiler section.

The minister then attended to the needs. He also inspected Thingangyun Garment Factory No-16 and Towel Factory on U Ba Han Road.

The minister and party went to Chemical Products Factory of Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries in West Kamayut Ward 2, Hline Township and inspected new modern machines to be produced soap powder and liquid.

He inspected production process of the factory.

(9) Officials leave for Singapore

YANGON, 10 July – Member of the Civil Service Selection and Training Board U Hla Myint Oo and Deputy Director-General U Maung Win of General Administration Department left here by air this afternoon to attend the Conference on Public Leadership to be held in Singapore.

They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Chairman of CSSTB Dr Than Nyunt and member U Nyunt Swe, heads of Civil Service Selection and Training Department, Civil Service Affairs Department and General Administration Department and officials.

(10) Tentative Myanmar selected soccer team beat combined team 3-2

YANGON, 10 July – The special warm-up match of tentative Myanmar selected soccer team and combined team organized by Myanmar Football Federation was held at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna this evening.

Among the spectators were Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win and the ministers, Secretary-General of MOC Director-General Col Thaung Htaik of Sports and Physical Education Department, senior military officers, patrons of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation and executives and guests.

In the match, Myanmar soccer team beat combined team 3-2.After the match, Zaw Htaik of the Myanmar soccer team was presented Man of the Match Award.

(11) President of Asian Badminton Confederation arrives

YANGON, 10 July – President of Asian Badminton Confederation Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Mr Korn Dabbarnnsi and party arrived here by air this morning to watch the Golden Eagle Asian Juniors Badminton Championship 1999 to be hosted in Yangon.

The president of ABC and party were welcomed at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak and officials, Director-General Col Thaung Htaik of Sports and Physical Education Department, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. President of Myanmar Badminton Federation U Kyi Nyunt and Secretary-General of ABC Mr Punch Gunalan.

(12) Minister inspects construction of Kanbawzathadi Palace

YANGON, 10 July – Minister for Culture U Win Sein, accompanied by Director-General U Nyunt Han of Archaeology Department, Director General U Zaw Than of Fine Arts Department and officials, arrived at construction site of Kanbawzathadi Palace of King Bayintnaung in Bago this morning.

Assistant Director U Thein Lwin of Archaeology Department reported on situation of the palace construction and the hall w here statues of King Bayintnaung and the queen will be kept. Director-General U Nyunt Han and Tanpawady U Win Maung gave supplementary reports.

(13) 116 members resign from Mohnyin Township NLD

YANGON, 10 July – A ceremony to present resignations of 116 members of Mohnyin Township National League for Democracy, Kachin State, was held at Mawhan Village Peace and Development Council Office of the township on 26 June morning.

One hundred and sixteen members of Mohnyin Township NLD, of their own volition resigned by sending letters of resignation to Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

On 26 June 1999, a ceremony to present resignations of Township NLD was held at Mawhan Village Peace and Development Council Office.

Member of Mawhan Village NLD U Sein Maung, on behalf of all NLD members, explained the reason. Vice-Chairman of Mawhan Village NLD U Kyaw Nyunt handed over the letters of resignation to Chairman of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Mya Kyaing.
