(1) Secretary-1 inspects preservation of cultural heritage, greening of east region of Mount Popa, reclamation of fallow and virgin lands in Magway Division
YANGON, 5 July Secretary-1 of the-State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party, accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen Ye Myint, arrived at Mandalay Children's Hospital on 4 July.
The Secretary-1 and party paid obeisance to ancient Pinsalawha Buddha Image. They then paid respects to the remains of late Presiding Sayadaw Bhaddanta Revata.
A ceremony to share merits to mark the final rites of the late Presiding Sayadaw Bhaddanta Revata and to open white umbrella was held at Sankyaungdaw Mandat, attended by the Secretary-1.
The Secretary-1 and party inspected treatment ant renovation of the hospital. The Secretary-1 and party left Mandalay by Tatmadaw flight and arrived at Bagan-NyaungOo at 8.45 am. They were welcomed by Commander of No 88 LID Brig-Gen Aye Kyway, Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Thein Zaw, members of Division, District and Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental personnel, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association family members and officials.
The Secretary-1 and party proceeded to Ngahsutaik Gainghtaukkyaung in Singu Village Tract in NyaungOo Township. The Secretary-1 and party took the Five Precepts from Chairman of Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Taikthit Kyaung Sayadaw Bhaddanta Okkantha.
The Secretary-1 and party presented offertories to the members of the Sangha.
Sayadaw Bhaddanta Zagara delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.
The Secretary-1 and party went to Bagan. They paid obeisance to Buddha Images at Shin Arahan Ordination Hall and inspected preservation of ancient artistic works there.
The Ordination Hall was consecrated by Shin Arahan and it was the first in Myanmar for Theravada Buddhism.
The Secretary-1 and party went to Dhammarazaka Pa filled the requirements. He inspected renovation of the lake, Htaygyi Kyaung, Htay Nge Kyaung and Dhamma Kyaung.
The Secretary-1 and party paid obeisance to Hsinbyushin Pagoda and inspected preservation of ancient cultural heritage.
They proceeded to Bagan Archaeological Museum where they were welcomed by Minister U Win Sein, Director-General of Department of Archaeology U Nyunt Han and officials.
The Secretary-1 inspected preparations of ancient Pinsalawha Buddha images for public obeisance at the museum. He observed wall painting and Buddha arts booths of Bagan period.
He paid respects to Htidaw to be hoisted at Cetanagyi Pagoda in Bagan.
The Secretary-1 and party went to Myanma Lacquer ware Institute where they were welcomed by Principal U Yu Thein, instructors and students and Jivitadana Sangha Hospital.
The Secretary-1, on arrival at Natkanle station of Popa Mountain Resort in Kyaukpadaung Township, was welcomed by Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, Deputy Director-General of Arid Zone Greening Department U Tun Tun, members of Myingyan District and Kyaukpadaung Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental officials, USDA members and officials.
Minister U Aung Phone reported on reserve forests in three divisions, cultivation acreage, plantation for greening of arid zone in central Myanmar, conservation of forests, implementation of project for firewood substitute fuel and water supply, greening of the region and others.
Assistant Engineer Daw Cho Cho Win of Development Affairs Department reported on construction of 20mile Songon-Natkanle Road.
The Secretary-1 inspected 76-acre plantation of perennial crops. The Secretary-1 went to Popa Mountain Resort where he was welcomed by Director-General of Forest Department Dr Kyaw Tint and service personnel.
The Secretary-1 and party inspected herbal plantations and spent the night at Popa Mountain Resort.
This morning, the Secretary-1 and party inspected rest houses of Popa Mountain Resort. They inspected landslide of Shwegugyoung and the Secretary-1 gave instructions on construction of retaining wall.
Secretary-1 and party took the Five Precepts from Magway Sayadaw and presented offertories to the members of the Sayadaw.
Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt supplicated on religious matters, expressing his pleasure in paying respects to Sayadaws led by the Secretary of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee at the ceremony to share merits for completion of the three story religious building in the compound of Maha Withu-dayama Monastery.
He said the monastery has been famous in the entire Myanmar since many years ago. It was heard from Sayadaws that learning and keeping in mind the Pali treatises discoursed by the Buddha was like paying homage to the Buddha.
The Secretary-1 and party attended opening of the multi-media class room at No 2 Basic Education High School in Pakokku.
Honorary Patron of the School Board of Trustees Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein presented teaching aids worth K 2.6 million to the school.
Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt accepted the donations. He then unveiled the signboard of the classroom.
Maj-Gen Ket Sein and Headmaster U Than Swe formally opened it. At Tebokan region, Salin Township, Magway Division, the Secretary-1 and party inspected reclamation work of Asia World Co Ltd.
They inspected Kangyi-bauk Creek Dam which will irrigate crop lands of the company.
Chairman of Myanmar Billion Group U Aung Ko Win, Thihathudhamma Theingi Thrithudhamma Theingi Daw Nang Than Htwe and family presented K 1 million to the pagoda and U Maung Maung Swe Tin and Dr Daw Mya Thida of SI Company K 300,000.
In Magway, the Secretary-1 and party paid homage to Magway Myathalun Pagoda. U Aung Ko Win, Thihathudhamma Theingi Thrithudhamma Theingi Daw Nan Than Htwe and family presented K 1 million to the pagoda.
The Secretary-1 and party arrived back here in the evening. Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein also inspected Magway Division General Hospital. Officials explained salient points of the hospital.

(2) Monsoon paddy to be grown on 1.17 million acres, summer paddy on 225,000 acres in Yangon Division
YANGON, 5 July A meeting to discuss agricultural matters being undertaken in Yangon Division by Yangon Division Peace and Development Council and report to Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo was held in the meeting hall of Yangon Command this afternoon. Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint acted as master of ceremonies.
In his address, the Secretary-2 said efforts are being exerted to extend the cultivation of paddy in various regions of the State.
Arrangements are also being made to grow appropriate crops in addition to paddy at wetlands in Yangon Division.
The Secretary-2 encouraged all those present to put forward difficulties, requirements and suggestions on works for reclamation of wetlands.
In his report on agricultural matters, Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than said though there is not much cultivable land in Yangon Division, efforts are being made to carry out cultivation works without leaving any patch of fallow and vacant land uncultivated.
This year, as to Yangon Division, the target is to cultivate monsoon paddy on 1.17 million acres of land and summer paddy on 225,000 acres of land; in addition to paddy, pulses and beans and oil crops will be cultivated.
As regards Yangon Division, priority is being given to cultivation of monsoon paddy, and emphasis is also being placed on multiple cropping, mixed cropping and boosting of per-acre yield.
Leader of Yangon Division Agricultural Supervisory Committee Director of Irrigation Department U Tin Maung Win reported on reclamation works of wetlands in Yangon Division.
Member of Yangon City Development Committee Col Thaung Wai reported on matters related to permits given for reclamation of wetlands in Taikkyi Township, Yangon Division, and progress of work in cultivation of paddy.
Manager of Dagon Agricultural Group U Kyaw Zaw Aung and Managing Director of Steel Stone Company Ltd U Than Lwin reported on works for reclamation of wetlands and progress of cultivation work, condition of investment and requirements.
Then, Deputy Minister U Ohn Myint and entrepreneurs reported on cultivation works being done by reclaiming wetlands and their experience, and put forward suggestions.
In connection with the reports, the Secretary-2 attended to the requirements.

(3) Secretary-2 attends dedication ceremony for new religious buildings in Hline
YANGON, 5 July A ceremony to share merits for new buildings of Shwekama Kyaungtaik, Aungthida Kyaungtaik and Dhamma Vissuddi Khemindarama Kyaungtaik built and donated by Olympic Company Ltd was held at Shwekama Kyaungtaik in Ward 5, Hline Township, this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
First, Chairman of Hline Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Pandita Sayadaw Bhaddanta Pannita administered the Five Precepts.
The Secretary-2 and ministers donated provisions to the Sayadaws.
Chairman of Olympic Committee Ltd U Aik Tun supplicated on the purpose of the donations.
The Township Sangha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits. The new buildings of three Kyaungtaiks were built at a cost of about K 36 million by Olympic Company Ltd.

(4) Pikauk Bridge on Yangon-Sittway Highway commissioned into service
YANGON, 5 July An inauguration ceremony of Pikauk Bridge on Yangon-Sittway Highway built by Public Works of the Ministry of Construction was held there in Kyauktaw Township this morning, with an address by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint. In his address, Lt-Gen Win Myint said the 360-foot- long Pikauk Bridge built with bailey type frames on reinforced concrete piers is the sixth bridge project completed on Yangon-Sittway Highway.
He spoke of the construction and completion of other bridges on the highway in Rakhine State, which has many rivers and creeks, the project to build Yangon-Ann and Ann-Sittway sections of the highway, completion of six major bridges and 670 small bridges on the highway. Yaw Creek Bridge to be commissioned soon, and efforts for completion of other major and small bridges as scheduled.
He pointed out the need for the transport sector to be smooth and secure in endeavoring for building a peaceful, modern and developed nation and noted that Ministry of Construction is carrying out the duty for smooth and secure transport.
In endeavoring for smooth and secure transport, the government has built new roads stretching 3.971 miles and 219 bridges of 60 feet in and noted that these efforts are being made in keeping with Senior General Than Shwe's guidance on narrowing development gap between one region and another he said.
Of the river bridge construction projects, five bridges across Ayeyawady River, three across Thanlwin River and one across Chindwin River were built simultaneously, and today, three across Ayeyawady River and three across Thanlwin River have been commissioned into service; and very soon Bo Myat Tun Bridge across the Ayeyawady near Nyaungdon is to be put into service, he said.
Continuing, the Secretary-3 spoke of the benefits that would accrue after opening Yangon-Sittway Highway, in both aspects of the transport sector and the national consolidation and accelerated efforts and accomplishments in other sectors.
As progress is made in various sectors, the GDP growth was registered at 5.6
and individual income at K 33,012 in 1998-99, the third year of the second
short-term five-year plan, he said, also speaking of the progress in Rakhine
State. Next, Commander Maj-Gen Aung Htwe made a speech. Commander Maj-Gen Aung
Htwe and Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun formally commissioned the
bridge into service.
Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun formally unveiled the stone inscription on construction of the bridge. The bridge has 10 feet and nine inches wide motor-way and 75 feet wide and five feet high waterway clearance. The total construction cost was K 131.7 million.

(5) Secretary-3 meets state/district level officials in Rakhine State
YANGON, 5 July Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint met with state/district level departmental officials in Rakhine State at Thaung Lon Aung Operation Hall of Western Command on 3 July.
In meeting with the departmental officials, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint said that they were there to know the real progress and requirement of the development projects of Rakhine State laid down by the State, especially progress on ten major bridges built on Yangon-Sittway Highway which are due to be inaugurated in late 1999.
He pointed out that Rakhine State is rich in natural resources like other states and divisions, adding there were few opportunities to exploit its natural resources due to difficulty in transport in the past, that is why it lagged behind in development among states and divisions.
As the State has now spent a large amount of funds in developing Rakhine State, it is spending more on transport than the past, he noted.
He spoke of the need to make efforts for boosting individual incomes and the need to raise production and services in Rakhine State; in so doing, it is needed to make preparations in time including utilization of farm equipment for summer paddy as well as monsoon paddy.
He called on responsible officials to focus on fisheries in the region and stressed the need to expand scientific prawn breeding as fisheries had been successful for Rakhine State and urged all departments concerned to cooperate for economic development of Rakhine State.
Afterwards, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung and Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein reported on assistance to be rendered by their ministries in development of Rakhine State.

(6) Myanmar energy delegation arrives back
YANGON, 5 July A Myanmar energy delegation led by Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi arrived back here by air yesterday evening after attending the 17th ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting and Meeting of Senior Officials of Energy Affairs in Bangkok, Thailand, from 28 June to 3 July.
The delegation was welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Deputy Ministers for Energy U Tin Tun and Brig-Gen Thein Aung, departmental heads and relatives.

(7) Deputy Prime Ministers inspect factories
YANGON, 5 July Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Vice-Chairman of MIC Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun and party inspected factories being run with permits granted by MIC at the Industrial City of Hilnethaya this morning.
The deputy prime ministers and party heard a report by Director-General of the Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development U Arnt Kyaw on areas and the purpose of the establishment of industrial cities in Yangon Division, condition of the factories and plants and other services.
Vice-Chairman of Management Committee for Industrial City of Hlinethaya reported on requirements of the industrialists.
The deputy prime ministers attended to their requirements. Then, the deputy prime ministers and party inspected Jong Lih Bag Factory. Director U Tun Sein conducted them around the factory.
Next, they visited Eva Pipe, Corrugated Iron Sheet and Paint Factory. Managing Director Daw Thawda Zin reported on facts about the factory. Then, they went to Tai Yi Footwear Factory.
Managing Director U Sein Oo reported on the production process of various kinds of footwear, import of raw materials and export of finished products. After that, they proceeded to Myanmar Mega Steel Sheets Factory.

(8) Slippers for children donated to Children Development Centre
YANGON, 5 July A ceremony to donate 1,000 pairs of slippers for children worth K 2 million to Children Development Centre sponsored by Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association by Managing Director of Silver Wave Trading Ltd. U Min Min Aung and Japanese family was held at the MMCWA Multi-purpose Building at the corner of Thanthuma Road and Parami Road in South Okkalapa Township at 10 am today.
Present on the occasion were Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Swe and EC members and donors.
First, Managing Director of Silver Wave Trading Ltd U Min Min Aung presented the slippers for children to Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe who accepted the donation and presented a certificate of honour to the donor.
Afterwards, Mr Mochi Zuki explained about the donation. Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe spoke words of thanks.

(9) ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting
YANGON, 5 July Myanmar delegation led by Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi attended the 17th ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting in Bangkok from 29 June to 3 July.
They were Welcomed on an at Bangkok by Counselor U Nyan Lin and embassy staff, and officials of PIT of Thailand.
Myanmar delegation attended the ASEAN Energy Officials Meeting held at Peninsula Hotel together with other delegations of ASEAN members from 29 June to 2 July and the 17th ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting at the same venue on 3 July.
The meeting discussed the multinational cooperation in the energy sector. ASEAN members' overcoming of the economic decline that occurred all over the world, implementation of building natural gas network in ASEAN region, greater co-operation in the coal sector, and holding of the 18th ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting in Hanoi.

(10) Minister inspects factories in Ayeyawady, DaikU
YANGON, 5 July Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung arrived at Zeyawady Distillery Factory in Bago Division this morning.
He inspected production process of divisions, repair of power generators and spare parts produced by the factory.
At the meeting hall, the minister met officials and attended to the needs.
At Monosodium Glutamate Factory in DaikU, Ministry U Aung Thaung heard a report on facts about the factory by Factory Manager U Hla Thaung and Managing Director U Kyaw Myint of Myanma Foodstuff Industries.
The minister and party inspected production of the factory. They proceeded to DaikU Distillery and inspected works. He also inspected tapioca plantations in the factory.

(11) Member of Secretariat of USDA tours Shan State
YANGON, 5 July Member of Secretariat of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, accompanied by officials, met Kalaw, Pindaya and Ywanga Township USDA executives and members at Kalaw Township USDA Office on 3 July.
In the afternoon he also met executives and members of Taunggyi, Hopong, Nyuangshwe and Yaksauk Township USDAs.
Then the member of Secretariat of USDA fulfilled the requirements.
Yesterday morning, Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo and member of Secretariat of USDA U Khin Maung Thein arrived at Kyauktalon Village in Taunggyi Township. (12) Minister for Industry-1 inspects textile, paper mills
YANGON, 5 July Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung and officials inspected Wundwin Textile Mill in Mandalay Division on 4 July.
The minister gave instructions on repair of parts and supervision for running of mills.
The minister inspected spinning at the mill and met service personnel. He spoke on production of new design and meeting the needs of the people.
The minister and party went to No 2 Yeni Paper Mill and inspected production process and control room. He also met service personnel there.

(13) Radio Operators Course opened
YANGON, 5 July A ceremony to open Radio Operators Course No 1/99 for Communication Technicians Grade-3 was held at Communications and Postal Services Training Centre of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications this afternoon.
Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin delivered an opening address. Altogether 35 service personnel of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications are attending the 23-week course.
Afterwards, the minister went to Central Stores Depot of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications on 57th Street and inspected warehouses of the depot.

YANGON, 5 July Forty-two members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Yenangyoung Township, Magway Division.
Forty-two members of Yenangyoung Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Yenangyoung Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 15 February 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

YANGON, 5 July Twenty-five members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Mindon Township, Magway Division.
Twenty-five members of Mindon Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Mindon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 18 June 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
