First, Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt delivered an opening address.
The Secretary-1 said the State Peace and Development Council in its endeavors in developing the nation from all sectors is launching education promotion programmes for emergence of an international level education system which is in conformity with the future political, economic and social conditions of the nation.
Teachers should have the conviction that they are playing a key role in implementing education programmes marking a turning point in education history and a milestone in the nation's history.
Teachers should try hard in learning their subjects lectured at the special refresher course to dutifully discharge their work bearing in mind as a national task for the successful implementation of the education promotion programmes.
The patriotic intellectuals and intelligentsia who are the main forces for national defence and nation-building tasks are much required as the nation has gained peace and good political; economic and social conditions; and the new nation is being built with the united strength of the entire national people.
The education promotion programmes are being implemented with national character and aims to continuously bring implemented and intelligentsia who will defend and build the new nation and to develop the human resources. Training is being given to students to strengthen their spirit of solidarity and the Union spirit to enhance the amity among national brethren.
If the objective conditions of Myanmar and the world are studied it can be seen that vitalization of spirit of solidarity and the Union spirit among Myanmar youths is essential for safeguarding the independence and sovereignty for their perpetuation.
The respective officials are striving day and night in all sectors for uplift of the living standards of the people, ensuring peace for the future nation and for enabling people to enjoy job opportunities and rights within the law for maintenance of peace and stability and law and order in the nation and for development of the nation.
Although the government is endeavoring with goodwill for the uplift of the social standards and economy of the people, some opportunists with the wrong objective to cause obstruction to the government are pushing the people into poverty and the nation into instability.
The destructive elements relying on some neocolonialist countries are blatantly perpetrating their confrontational policy and utter-devastation policy. The policies of confrontation, utter devastation and economic sanctions exercised by the destructive elements are totally against the interests of the nation and the people as they are made with evil intentions and with antagonism towards the government to drag the people into poverty and suffering.
Using the United Nations as a stepping stone, they are committing unlawful acts, making interferences and bullying other countries, he said and added that if judged on the aims for formation of the United Nations Organization, some countries of the West and their conspirators are violating the Provisions of the UN Charter.
The Secretary-1 spoke of the importance of national unity and pointed out the duty of all citizens to crush all traitors to the nation.
He said the teachers need to explain to their pupils to differentiate those who construct from destructionists, thoroughly understand the real situation of the State and discharge the national duty of nurturing reliable intelligentsia and intellectuals who will build a new nation.
He urged the trainee teachers to lead their pupils and national peoples to uphold Our Three Main National Causes-non-disintegration of the Union, non-disintegration of national unity, and perpetuation of sovereignty.
In conclusion, he underscored the need for the teachers to attend the course with the conviction to successfully implement the educational promotion programmes contributing to emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation, to organize their pupils and people to possess nationalism and patriotism, the most important conviction in building and safeguarding the nation, to consolidate national unity to be able to fight the hegemonism, and to look after their pupils so that they would not be persuaded by the axe-handles.
