(1) Discussions held on matters of enhancing China-Myanmar economic cooperation
YANGON, 29 June - Leading Committee for Promotion of Economic Cooperation between the Union of Myanmar and the People's Republic of China held the third coordination meeting this morning at Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), with an address by Chairman of the Leading Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
The Secretary-1 said the Leading Committee was formed after Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe had completed his goodwill visit to China in 1996.
The goodwill delegation led by him and comprising ministers visited the PRC from 7 to 11 June 1999 to further enhance the China-Myanmar economic cooperation.
During the visit, he met with the State Councillor of PRC Mr Luo Gan, Premier Mr Zhu Rongi, Vice-Premier Mr Wu Bangguo and other Chinese leaders and had cordial discussions with them on implementing of the tasks under the bilateral economic cooperation programmes and tasks to be extended.
Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Hla and ministers who were in the delegation also held meetings with officials of the respective ministries and companies of PRC.
All the discussions in China were successful as they were held with constructive approach and understanding.
When all the results of these discussions were presented to the Senior General, he (Senior General Than Shwe) gave work guidance to realize them.
Coordination should be made on ministry-wise tasks which must be implemented by the collective efforts of all the ministries concerned. Systematic plans should be made for speedy implementation of the plans.
Discussion should be centered on implementation of sector-wise plans. Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel reported on progress of tasks which are being implemented under the Myanmar-China Cooperation Programme.

(2) Secretary-2 inspects agricultural works in Kayah and Shan States
YANGON, 29 June - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo left here for Loikaw, Kayah State, by Tatmadaw aircraft at 7 am on 28 June.
On arrival at the airport in Loikaw, they were welcomed by Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo, Brig-Gen Thura Sein Thaung of Pekhon Station, Chairman of Kayah State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials.
The Secretary-2 and party attended a ceremony to drive in stake for building of Sasana Beikman in the precincts of Myonam Sutaungpyi Pagoda of Loikaw
Afterwards, they performed rituals of golden and silver showers. At 9.30 am, the Secretary-2 and party flew to Pekhon by helicopter where they were welcomed by Tactical Operations Commander Col Ye Aung of Pekhon Station and departmental officials, families and members of social organisations and local people.
In Pekhon, the Secretary-2 and party attended a ceremony to donate cash for building of Dhamma Theikdi Pariyatti Sarthintaik and offered provisions to the Chairman Sayadaw of Township Sangha Nayaka Committee and members of the Sangha on the occasion.
The Secretary-2 handed K S million donated by the State Peace and Development Council to Chairman of Board of Trustees of Dhamma Theikdi Pariyatti Sarthintaik U Hla.
It was followed by a cash donation ceremony K 100,000 by battalions under Pekhon Station, K 25,000 by Township Peace and Development Council and departments, 20 bags of cement and K 5,000 by U Thaung Tun Nyunt and Daw Thet Thet Win, K 10,000 by U Soe Nyunt and Daw Khin Myat Oo, K 3,000 by Township Union Solidarity and Development Association, K 5,000 by U Tint Naing and Daw Khin Mya Nyein and K 2,000 by U Khun Hla Shwe family and K 1,500 by U Mya Thaung and Daw Shwe U.
Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa presented copies of Pitaka treatises and Tatmadaw members and their families offered provisions.
Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo reported to the Secretary-2 on the construction.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo gave instructions.
Minister Maj-Gen Sein Htwa supplicated on religious matters to the Sayadaw and members of the Sangha.
After the ceremony, Secretary-2 and party inspected the construction site.
The Secretary-2 and party went to Meseh by helicopter. They were welcomed there by commanding officer of regional battalion Lt-Col Nyi Nyi Win, departmental officials, USDA members, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades members and towns-elders.
Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council U Tin Win reported on cultivation of monsoon and summer paddy, arrangements for extension of paddy cultivation, creeks in the township, construction of diversion weir and Pa-hsaung-Meseh.
Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo reported on regional conditions. The Secretary-2 then gave instructions. The ministers and the deputy ministers fulfilled the requirements and inspected offices schools and departments.
Leader of Kayah State Special Region-2 U Sanda reported on requirements. The Secretary-2 gave instructions and met members of Kayah State Special Region-2.
In Loikaw Township, the Secretary-2 and party met officials and regional farmers in Taungthonlon region.
General Manager of Myanmar Agriculture Service Dr Nyi Nyi reported on making of Effective Micro Organism Bokashi and usefulness, Kayah State manager U Myint Swe on reclamation of 1,300 acres and cultivation of various crops, terrace cultivation and modern slope cultivation techniques.
Director of Forest Department in Shan State U Thein reported on plans for conservation of Innlay Lake.
Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo reported on extensive use of EM Bokashi and assistance to conservation of Innlay Lake.
Innlay in Nyaungshwe Township is one of the largest lakes in Myanmar. Conservation work began in 1992 in accord with guidance of the Head of State. A total of 1.5 million saplings has been planted in catchment areas of Innlay Lake last year. Arrangements are being made for planting of 1.5 million saplings this year. Forest conservation control stations are now opened for conservation of trees.
Innlay Lake will be beautiful and perpetual for posterity when measures for greening and perpetuation of the lake are undertaken. Regional people are to take part in conservation of soil and lake.
A farmer of Taungthonlon region reported on agricultural requirements including EM Bokashi. Chairman of Kayah State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Myint Thein and officials replied to queries.
Ministers U Than Aung and Maj-Gen Ket Sein and Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo reported on fulfillment for health, education and development of Kayah State.
The Secretary-2 and party inspected making of EM Bokashi and plantation.
They arrived back here in the evening.
Minister U Than Aung inspected Basic Education High School in Loikaw and met teachers.
Minister Maj-Gen Ket Sein met doctors and nurses at Loikaw People's Hospital.
Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone met Fire Brigade members and Auxiliary Fire Brigade members and inspected fire engines.

(3) Monetary assistance given to in-service disabled Tatmadawmen
YANGON, 29 June - A ceremony to present account books to in-service disabled Tatmadawmen in the region of the Eastern Command for the first time was held in the city hall of Loikaw, Kayah State, on 28 June evening with an address by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
In his address, the Secretary-2 expressed his pleasure for the fact that military commands are in their own ways providing assistance for the disabled Tatmadawmen under respective commands who do not meet the required medical standard while the Directorate of Resettlement is doing so.
The North-West Command and the Southern Command have also provided cash assistance for the in-service disabled Tatmadawmen.
The Tatmadawmen should take pride in the fact that they have to sacrifice their limbs while striving for the stability, peace and tranquility, modernization and development of the State with a view to enabling the State to keep abreast with neighboring nations.

(4) Indian NDC delegation visits National Museum, Hlinethaya City of Industry
YANGON, 29 June - A study delegation led by Shri B Jaishankan of Indian National Defence College, accompanied by Lt-Col Kyaw Myint of the National Defence College of the Union of Myanmar, today visited the National Museum and Hlinethaya City of Industry.
The Indian study delegation arrived at the National Museum at 9 am. Director Daw Nu Mra Zan of the museum and officials welcomed and conducted them round there.
The delegation then-visited the Sikh Temple on Theinbyu Road.
In the afternoon, they arrived at Kanaung Hall of Hlinethaya City of Industry. Director U Tin Win of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development explained facts about the Hlinethaya City of Industry with the aid of video tapes to the delegation.
Then, the delegation visited Sigma Cable Factory, Myanmar Apparel Garment Factory and FMI City.

(5) Minister inspects production of farming machines
YANGON, 29 June - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, together with officials, visited Agricultural Equipment Factory No 2 under Agriculture Mechanization Department in Ingon, Kyaukse Township, yesterday.
The minister inspected production of Leya-12 power tillers and a new design for the power tiller to be manufactured in 1999-2000. The minister gave instructions on carrying out production work together with research work.
Then, he inspected agricultural equipment and gave instructions. The minister then went to the site where effective microorganism fertilizer is produced by Myanma Agriculture Service in Mandalay Division. Managing Director of MAS U Tun Than gave a supplementary report.
The minister gave instructions on extensive use and production of the effective micro-organism fertilizer.
The minister then inspected EM Bokashi and super EM Bokashi fertilizer.

YANGON, 29 June - Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win met Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Mr Chung Jung Gum and Counselor Mr Ji Young Kim who called at his office this morning.

(7) Minister holds coord meeting on International Day of Cooperatives
YANGON, 29 June - Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San attended a coordination meeting of the International Day of Cooperatives 1999 at the Ministry of Cooperatives on Bogyoke Aung San Street this morning.
Patron of the Leading Committee Minister U Aung San gave a speech.
Chairman of the Leading Committee Deputy Director-General U Than Aung of Cooperative Department reported on completion of tasks to observe the International Day of Cooperatives. Then, officials reported on respective sectors. Minister U Aung San gave concluding remarks.

(8) Malaysian Minister of Rural Development and party conclude visit
YANGON, 29 June - Minister of Rural Development of Malaysia Dato Haji Annura Haji Musa, wife and party left for Malaysia by air this afternoon after concluding their visit here at the invitation of Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt.
The Malaysian Minister, wife and party were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt and wife Daw Kyin Khaing, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Than Tun, directors-general of Border Areas and National Races Development Department and Development Affairs Department and officials, Ambassador of Malaysia Dato Mohamad bin Noh and wife and staff of the Malaysian Embassy.

(9) 89 members resign from Myaung Township NLD
YANGON, 29 June - Eighty-nine members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Myaung Township, Sagaing Division.
Eighty-nine members of Myaung Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignations to Myaung Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 24 December 1998 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(10) Minister for Transport inspects functions of departments of Myanma Airways
YANGON, 29 June - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint and officials inspected ticket counter, sale system, the site for office and construction of staff quarters at Myanma Airways (Head Office) this afternoon.
Managing Director of MA U Tin Hlaing Hmi reported on organizational setup, origin of MA, income and expenditure, General Manager U Phone Maung on functions of the flight section. discharging duties of crew and staff of the flight section, observing of aviation laws and passengers and cargo transport and officials on functions of other departments.
The minister and party went to Societe International de Telecommunications Aeronuntiques (SITA) station. Engineer U Kyaw Oo reported on communications of internal and external flights.

(11) C-in-C (Air)'s Shield Soccer Championship
YANGON, 29 June-The opening of Commander-in-Chief (Air)'s Shield Soccer Championship was held at the sports ground of Flying Training Base in Meiktila on 28 June.
Among the spectators were Commander of No 99 Light Infantry Division Brig-Gen Htay Oo and Tactical Operations Commanders.
Acting Commander of Ground Training Base Lt-Col Tin Maung Kyi, guests of Meiktila Station, officers and other ranks of the Flying Training Base and the Ground Training Base.
Acting Commander of Flying Training Base Lt-Col Myat Hein gave an opening speech and formally opened the championship.

(13) Donations for All-round Development Centre for Children
YANGON, 29 June - Women's Federation for World Peace of Japan presented K 35,000 and teaching aids for the All-round Development Centre for Children of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association at the association at the corner of Thanthuma and Parami Streets in South Okkalapa Township today.
Present on the occasion were Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe and executives and well-wishers.

(14) Opening of doctorate course in medical science discussed
YANGON, 29 June - A meeting on the opening of the doctorate course in medical science was held in the meeting hall of the Department Medical Science this morning.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, directors-general, rectors, directors and professors of the Ministry of Health, doctorate course instructors and trainees. Director (Post Graduate) of the Department of Medical Science Dr Daw Mya Wai explained matters related to opening the course.
The deputy minister stressed the importance of human resources, and spoke of the need for producing medical practitioners and health employees.
The meeting ended with concluding remarks by the deputy minister.

YANGON, 29 June - Upholding, the Our Three Main National Causes, monks, 30 Nuns and 20 persons of Mibagonyi Blood Donation Group of Maubin Township donated blood at Defence Services General Hospital this morning.
It was attended by Commandant of the hospital Col Tin Thein Lwin, officials, leader of the group U Win Myint (Excellent Performance in Social Field Third Class) and donors.
Sayadaw U Indacariya of Maubin Township explained the purpose of the donation. The commandant spoke words of thanks. Then, the commandant and officials presented certificates of honour to the blood donors.

(18) Myanmar Brewery Ltd donates K 1.2m to Hlegu Township WVO
YANGON, 29 June - A ceremony to donate K 1.2 million to Hlegu Township War Veterans Organization by Myanmar Brewery Ltd jointly established by Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd and Fraser & Neave Company of Singapore was held at the factory of MBL in Pyinmabin Industrial Zone of Mingaladon Township this morning.
General Manager of MBL Mr Koh Tai Hong explained the purpose of the donation and presented K 1.2 million.
Chairman of Hlegu Township WVO Captain Soe Naing Oo (retired) accepted the donation and spoke words of thanks.
