YANGON, 25 June - Thanmyanthu Economic Foundation and well-wishers presented assistance to in-service Tatmadaw members who had sacrificed their limbs for the national cause this afternoon at the City Hall.
Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo delivered an address.
The Secretary-2 said the dignity of Tatmadaw members who had sacrificed limbs and even their lives in enabling the people to live in peace and tranquility are matchless.
He lauded the people and Thanmyanthu Economic Foundation for rendering assistance to these Tatmadaw members with goodwill, loving kindness, sympathy and loyalty.
At present endeavors are being made in building a peaceful, modern and development nation which is the goal of the entire people and the nation.
The present people of Myanmar, which is an agro-based country, do not need to worry about food due to the efforts of the forefathers; and the nation at present is exerting efforts for surplus food production for the future generations.
Also present on the occasion were Chief of Staff (Navy) Commodore Kyi Min, Deputy Minister for Labour Brig-Gen Win Sein, Vice Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, senior military officers, donors and disabled Tatmadaw members.
Then the wellwishers made donations for the disabled Tatmadaw members.Today's donations included K 2 million by Light House Enterprise Limited, K I million by Yangon City Development Committee, K 600,000 by KN Company, K 500,000 by Soe Than Geha Family and K 500,000 by Thanmyanthu Economic Development Company.
The Secretary-2 and party accepted the donations. The Secretary-2 and party and donors presented account books to the disabled Tatmadaw members.

(2) Target realization, quality control vital in implementing Rail Transportation Ministry's tasks
YANGON, 25 June - Ministry of Rail Transportation held the first four-monthly meeting this afternoon at the ministry, addressed by Chairman of Central Supervisory Committee for Ensuring Secure and Smooth Transport Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
The Secretary-2 said, the government is making endeavors for emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation, placing in the fore Our Three Main National Causes and implementing the 12 political, economic and social objectives. It is also fulfilling the requirements of the agricultural D sector to the utmost efforts as n the nation is an agro-based one. In the meantime, efforts are being made for development of the industrial and trade sectors in an equal momentum. Permits have been granted to national entrepreneurs to take part in large-scale farming. The nation is setting up industrial zones and rendering assistance to entrepreneurs for industrial development.
Efforts should be made to boost production and exports for progress of the trade sector; and priority must be given to manufacturing of import substitute goods.
Target realization, quality control, waste reduction and thrifty methods are vital in implementing the tasks of the ministry.
The ministry should make cooperation and coordination with Supervisory Committee for Ensuring Myanma Railways and Inland Water Transport Services to Operate at Full Capacity to enhance its functions to reach the maximum level. Staff of the respective branches should strive with utmost efforts to achieve the standard work capacity.
The Secretary-2 dealt with matters concerning creation of a work site environment to effectively promote the workers' skills, ensuring better arrangements to bring about an effective administration system, to make investments in the most appropriate way and to offer best service for the public.

(3) Central Supervisory Committee for Communications Policy meets
YANGON, 25 June - The Seventh Meeting of Central Supervisory Committee for Communications Policy took place at the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs this afternoon.
At the meeting, Joint Secretary of the Committee General Staff Officer (Grade I) Lt-Col Yin Maung Sein presented the minutes of the sixth meeting, and they were then approved.
Joint Secretary of CSCCP Staff Officer (Grade I) Lt-Col Ye Lwin presented resolutions on communication equipment asked by the organizations concerned, and then they were approved.
Brig-Gen Aung Myint then explained reports on communications presented to the Committee. Minister Brig-Gen Win Tin explained resolutions of the meeting of Telephone Supervisory Committee and implementation of works. Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein reported on requirement of TV broadcasting equipment to be fulfilled.
Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo gave instructions on the reports.

(4) Minister U Win Aung arrives back from Malaysia
YANGON, 25 June - Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung arrived back here by air this morning after paying an official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia.
He was welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, responsible officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Malaysian Ambassador to the Union of Myanmar Dato Mohamad bin Noh.
While in Malaysia, Minister U Win Aung called on Dato Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia at his new office at the Federal Administrative Centre in Putrajaya on 24 June. During the call, various issues on regional as well as international were cordially discussed. They also exchanged views on promoting closer bilateral relations and cooperation between Myanmar and Malaysia.
In the afternoon on the same day, Minister U Win Aung met with his counterpart Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia at the latter's office in Kuala Lumpur and held friendly discussions on regional and bilateral matters.
They also exchanged views on further enhancing the existing cooperative relations between the two countries. After cordial discussions, the two Foreign Ministers held a Joint Press Conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affaires of Malaysia.
Later in the evening, Minister U Win Aung attended a dinner hosted in his honour by Dato Seri Syed Hamid Albar at Nikko Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

YANGON, 25 June - The Work Group 15 of Organizing Committee of Myanmar War Veteran Organization presented cash to 12 Township War Veteran Organizations (Outside Yangon City Areas) at Forest Department headquarters on Bayint-naung Road in Insein Township this afternoon.

YANGON, 25 June - The Business Meeting between Korea Machinery Trade Mission and Myanmar entrepreneurs was held at Inya Lake Hotel at 9 am today.

(18) Minister inspects industries in Yangon West District
YANGON, 25 June - Member of the Myanma Industrial Development Committee Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San who is also in-charge of Yangon West Industrial Zone inspected industries in Mayangon and Hline townships, Yangon West District, today.
The minister inspected the garment factory of Charming Industry Co Ltd at No 65 on Kyaikwaing Pagoda Road, Mayangon Township. Officials of the factory reported on production and requirements to the minister who attended to the needs. The factory has 360 employees and 270 sewing machines and produces 5,000 dozens of garments monthly.
Then, the minister went to Luthit Barbed-wire and Wire and Mesh Factory on Thantzin Street in Ward 3, Mayangon Township. He heard reports on requirement of power supply by officials and gave instructions. The minister also inspected Shwedipa Polyethylene Factory and attended to the needs.

YANGON, 25 June - The prize presentation ceremony of Yangon Command Commander's Shield, Women's and Men's Volleyball Tournament was held at Hline Gymnasium this afternoon.
In the final matches, No 1 Motor Transport Battalion beat No 1 Provost Company 3-0 in women's event and No 323 Supply and Transport Battalion beat Defence Services Record Office 3-2 in men's event.
In the prize presentation ceremony, Commander of No 2 Military Region Col Than Win presented second and first prizes to No I Provost Company and No I Motor Transport Battalion women's teams.
No 3 Military Region Commander Col Win Maung presented second and firs prizes to Defence Service Record Office and No 321 Supply and Transport Battalion men's teams.

(20) Minister inspects construction work in Mandalay Division
YANGON 25 June - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun accompanied by officials, left Mandalay for Kyaukse on 24 June and donated computers to schools there.
He presented a computer and K 100,000 to Myoma Middle School and K 100,000 to Basic Education High School of Kyaukse Township. The minister then inspected construction of Samonpauk Bridge on Myittha-Myingyan Road and gave instructions on meeting the set standards and completing it in a short time and attended to the needs.
Back in Mandalay, he inspected a section of six-lane road to Mandalay International Airport, Panlaung and Panhse bridge projects on the road and gave instructions on minimising loss and wastage and meeting the set standards.

(21) IPRD's Library Science Course 2/99 concludes
YANGON, 25 June - Library Science Course 2/99 sponsored by the Information and Public Relations Department, Ministry of Information, concluded at the training hall of the News and Periodicals Enterprise this morning.
Present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, directors-general and managing directors under the ministry, advisers, directors and course instructors.
On behalf of the Minister for Information, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aung Thein made a speech on the occasion.
With the application of library science learned at the course, trainees are to strive for making libraries in their regions become recreation centres producing good sons and daughters of the country as well as disseminating knowledge to the people.
The Deputy Minister then presented certificates to trainees through leader of the trainees U Thant Shin Maung of IPRD prizes to outstanding trainees and gifts to course instructors.
A total of 61 trainees, 43 from IPRD and 18 from other departments, attended the six-week course.

(23) Heroin seized at Insein Highway Bus Terminal
YANGON, 25 June - Daw Ohn Kyaing, daughter of U Tun Ngwe ofNyaphawkan Village, Wundwin. was arrested in a case at which 82.8036 grams of heroin in her possession.
Acting on information, a combined team including members of local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Forces, searched passenger Daw Ohn Kyaing on a vehicle of Yan Gyi Aung Bus Line which is on Mandalay-Yangon Line at Highway Bus Terminal, Insein, on 4 June and found the heroin in her plastic basket and arrested her.Legal action is being taken against her according to law.

(24) 27 members resign from KhinU Township NLD
YANGON, 25 June - Twenty-seven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of KhinU Township, Sagaing Division.
Twenty-one members of KhinU Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to KhinU Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 10 February 1999 and six members followed suit on 16 February 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

YANGON, 25 June - Twenty-five members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Taungdwingyi Township, Magway Division.
Twenty-five members of Taungdwingyi Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Taungdwingyi Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 19 May 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
