(2) General Maung Aye on tour of industrial plants in Mandalay
YANGON, 22 June - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye inspected experimental production of EM Bokashi fertilizer with the use of waste material at Zaungkalaw Garbage in Pyigyidagun Township, Mandalay, this morning.
The General and party heard reports by Manager of Mandalay Division Myanma Agricultural Service U Aung Kyin on how to produce EM Bokashi fertilizer, how to use and its effectiveness.
Mayor of Mandalay Brig-Gen Yan Thein reported on daily disposal of some 350-ton or 400-ton garbage in Mandalay and experimental production of EM Bokashi fertilizer with the use of waste material by Mandalay City Development Committee.
Then, the General inspected experimental production of EM Bokashi fertilizer with the use of such waste material as green grass, water hyacinth, algae, household rubbish, waste greens.
The General gave instructions on sufficient and effective production of EM Bokashi fertilizer in a township or district of Mandalay Division.
EM standing for Effective Micro-Organism is a solvent containing such microorganisms as bacteria and yeast.
Bokashi is a kind of fertilizer produced by systematically blending EM with agricultural waste and animal dung.
The difference between Bokashi fertilizer and ordinary fertilizer is that Bokashi fertilizer has more micro-organisms which can decay agricultural waste rapidly and make the soil more fertile; according to research findings, it is found that EM Bokashi fertilizer can contribute much to the yield of crops.
The General and party went to Paleik Textile and Finishing Plant in Singaing, Mandalay, by car.
Minister for Industry- I U Aung Thaung reported on the plan to build a paper mill which can produce 25-ton newsprint a day in the compound of the factory.
General Manager of Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries U Thein Win reported on preparations for the paper mill and Managing Director of News and Periodicals Enterprise U Tin Kha on printing, publishing and distribution of newspaper in upper Myanmar.
The General gave instructions where necessary.
In the hall of the factory, the General and party heard a report by Minister U Aung Thaung on the background of the factory and condition of investment.

YANGON, 22 June - Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Minister of Home Affairs of Singapore Mr Wong Kan Seng who called at his office at l pm today.
Also present at the call together with Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office and Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung, officials and together with the guest was Ambassador of Singapore Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow.

(4) Nawarat Resources to produce marble
YANGON, 22 June - A production sharing-contract was signed between No 3 Mining Enterprise and Nawarat Resources Company Limited this evening at the Ministry of Mines to jointly produce marble at Inn region in Madaya Township, Mandalay Division.
Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint gave a speech.
Managing Director of No 3 ME U Hsan Tun and Managing Director of the company U Aye Zaw Win signed the contract.
Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung presented the MIC permit and Minister Brig-Gen Ohn Myint the work permit to U Aye Zaw Win.
Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein and officials were also present.

(5) Staff, families of Ministry of CPT offer "soon" to members of Sangha of State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho
YANGON, 22 June - Staff and families of the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs offered "soon" for a day and provisions to 450 members of the Sangha of State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon) this morning.
The ceremony held at State Pariyatti Sasana Tekkatho (Yangon) was attended by Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin and staff and families of the Ministry of CPT.
The congregation received the Five Precepts from Rector Sayadaw of SPST (Yangon) Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Bhivamsa, and they offered provisions to the Sayadaw and the Sangha.
The Minister handed K 90,000 for offering "soon" for a day and then merits were shared at dedication ceremony.
After the ceremony, Minister Brig-Gen Win Tin went to Insein Auto Exchange where he inspected installed equipment donated by Shanghai Bell Co of the People's Republic of China.
The Chief Engineer and the Engineer-in-Charge of Yangon Auto Telephone Department reported to the minister on the equipment and exchange.
The minister gave instructions and then proceeded to Shwepyitha Auto Exchange.
He inspected Shwepyitha Auto Exchange and arranged for convenience of phone users in Shwepyitha.
He instructed officials to use vacant areas in the compound of the exchange.
The minister also inspected Mingaladon Auto Exchange and Bayintnaung Auto Exchange.
While at Bayintnaung Auto Exchange, the minister gave instructions on ensuring reduction of failures of phone lines and solving Y2K problems at auto exchanges.

(6) Air-conditioner donated to MMCWA
YANGON, 22 June - A ceremony to donate a Sanyo split type air-conditioner to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association by Women of Asean in Yangon (WAY) was held at the MMCWA Multi-purpose Building at the corner of Thanthuma Road and Parami Road in South, Okkalapa Township at 10 am today.
Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe explained aims of MMCWA.
Afterwards, wife of Ambassador of Singapore Mrs Lisa Choy, a patron of Women of Asean in Yangon (WAY), explained about the donation. Wives of Ambassador of Singapore and Ambassador of Thailand presented an air-conditioner to Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe who accepted the donation and presented certificate of honour to the donor.

(7) Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs holds coord meeting No 1/99
YANGON, 22 June - Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs of Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held a coordination meeting No 99 at the ministry this afternoon, with an address by Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone.

(8) SOM of 2nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime ends
YANGON, 22 June - The ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting of the Second ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime hosted by Myanmar continued for the second and final day at the Traders Hotel today.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Secretary-General Mr I Robert Inkiriwang of the ASEAN Secretariat and officials, senior official delegates of the 10 ASEAN member nations and departmental personnel.
Leader of Myanmar delegation Secretary of Leading Committee for Hosting the Second ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win presided over the meeting.
Mr I Robert Inkiriwang explained the agenda of the SOM.
The meeting discussed matters concerning the international organizations and other associations which are taking part in controlling transnational crimes and the date and venue to hold the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting of the Third ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime.
The participants then discussed the draft communique to be issued at the Second ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime.
In the afternoon, the SOM report to be presented at the Second ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime was approved.
The meeting successfully concluded in the evening.

(9) Ministers, deputy ministers of ASEAN nations arrive
YANGON, 22 June - Ministers, deputy ministers and delegates of the ASEAN member nations today arrived here to attend the Second ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime to be held at the Traders Hotel here tomorrow.
They included former Minister of Home Affairs and member of the Upper House of the Philippines Mr Obert Z Barbers, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia Mr Datuk Ong Ka Ting, Minister for Home Affairs of Singapore Mr Wang Kang Weng, Minister of Home Affairs of Brunei Mr Pehin Deto Haji Isa Ibrahim, Police Maj-Gen Dail Bachtlar of Indonesia, Minister of Home Affairs of Lao People' s Democratic Republic Maj-Gen Asang Laoly, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs of Cambodia Mr Em Sam An and Deputy Minister of Science and Technology and Environment of Thailand Mr Porntep Techapaibul.
They were welcomed at the airport by responsible personnel and embassy staffs of the respective embassies.

(10) 66-KV power grid put into service in Bahmo
YANGON, 22 June - A ceremony to put 66-KV power grid into service in Kyaukpahto-Shwegu- Bahmo region was held at the power sub-station in Bahmo yesterday morning.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Kyaw Win, Brig-Gen Tin Soe and senior military officers of Bahmo Station, Chairman of Bahmo District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Myo Swe and members, authorities of Bahmo, Shwegu, Moemauk and Mansi Townships, departmental personnel, locals and national races exceeding 60,000.
Commander Maj-Gen Kyaw Win made an opening speech.
Brig-Gen Tin Soe and Assistant Chief Engineer of Kachin State Myanma Electric Power Enterprise U Soe Myint Lwin formally opened the power sub-station.
That 66 KV Power Grid has 152.87-mile-long cable, and it was built at a cost of 2.596 million US dollars and K 275.775 million provided by the Government and K 3.51 million contributed by the public beginning May 1996.
Now, power can be supplied to Bahmo, Moemauk and Shwegu round the clock.

(11) Meeting held to coordinate opening of border trade points
YANGON, 22 June -
Next, chairmen of Mandalay, PyinOoLwin, Kyaukse, Meiktila, Myingyan, Yamethin and NyaungU District Peace and Development Councils reported on future tasks in district-wise for progress.
The General spoke of the need to implement the tasks with full belief for success. He then met those present.

(12) Commander visits ceramic factory in Mawlamyine
YANGON, 22 June - Chairman of Mon State Peace and Development Council Commander of South-East Command Maj-Gen Myint Aung, accompanied by officials, visited the ceramic factory in Mawlamyine on 19 June morning, and met the factory manager and staff.
The commander called on all to make efforts to exceed the target and work for staff welfare.
Factory Manager U Kyaw Myint reported on production work of the factory, plans to be got through and requirements.
The commander fulfilled the requirements.
Then, the commander and party toured the factory and gave instructions.

(13) Commander inspects basic education high school and hospital in Mongpyin
YANGON, 22 June - Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander of Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Thein Sein, together with Tactical Operations Commander Col Tin Maung Ohn and officials, went to Mongpyin Township Basic Education High School on 17 June morning, and cordially met Township Education Officer Daw Tin Thaung and teachers.
The commander gave instructions on academic matters and works for keeping the campus of the school lush and green.
Then, the commander inspected the school.
Afterwards, the commander and party inspected Mongpyin Township People's Hospital.
The commander met Medical Superintendent Dr Tun Tun and nurses, and gave instructions on keeping the hospital clean and pleasant, systematic storage of medicine, dissemination of health knowledge among the people and cooperation with departments.

(14) International trade fair to be held 23-26 September
YANGON, 22 June - An international trade fair named International Exhibition-Yangon 99 will be held at Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road on 23-26 September with the permission of the Ministry of Commerce and the assistance of Office of Director of Defence Services Museum and Historical Research Institute.
Laser World Co Ltd at 166, 34th Street (upper), Kyauktada Township, is making arrangements to hold the exhibition on grand scale.
The exhibition will be held to make products of local and foreign companies known to consumers, to ensure direct dealing between sellers and buyers, to make products of Myanmar known to the world and to enhance promotion of the market-oriented economic system being practised.

YANGON, 22 June - Eighty-five members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Pyapon Township, Ayeyawady Division.
Eighty-five members of Pyapon Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Pyapon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 23 December 1998 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
