YANGON, 20 June - Cornerstone laying ceremony of Maha Shwesigyi Pagoda to be built on Kanmabala Hill was held on Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Division, this morning, attended by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye.
Present on the occasion were member Sayadaws of the State Central Working Committee of the Sangha, member Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, Chairman of Division Sangha Nayaka Committee and members of the Sangha.

(2) General Maung Aye inspects gem mining stations in Mogok, excavation work in ancient city of Tagaung
YANGON, 20 June - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, who is currently in Mandalay, inspected the gem mines in Mogok Township and excavation works being done at the site of Tagaung ancient city on 18 and 19 June.
He was accompanied by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development Council and ministers.
They left Mandalay for Kyaukpyatthat Village in Mogok by helicopter at 1.10 pm on 18 June and were welcomed there by Commander of the Tactical Operations Col Tun Kyi and officials.
The General and party inspected Yadana Kadeikada gem mining blocks of the Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd.
In the briefing hall later, Col Tun Kyi and the producer in-charge of the gem mining reported to the General and party on the works.
General Maung Aye inspected the gems extracted from Yadana Kadeikada Station.
The General and party next proceeded to Mogok and inspected the gem extraction blocks off Linyaungchi Gem Mining station of the Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd.

(3) Myanmar industrial delegation arrives back from ROK
YANGON, 20 June - Myanmar industrial delegation led by Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin arrived back here by air this evening from the Republic of Korea after promoting bilateral industrial co-operation between the two countries and studying the production of vehicles and agricultural machinery at the invitation of Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy of ROK.

(4) Minister inspects Special Region-4 in Eastern Shan State
YANGON, 20 June - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, accompanied by officials concerned, arrived at Maingma Village via Kengtung, on 18 June where he was welcomed by national race leader U Saing Lin and pasty of Special Region-4.
The minister and party then visited Dwenagara Pagoda in Mongla where they visited drugs eradication Museum and boundary pillar between Myanmar and China.
The minister and party inspected Myanma Posts and Telecommunications office and People's Hospital in Mongla where they met with service personnel and attended to their needs.

(5) Tree planting ceremony held to mark Myanmar Women's Day
YANGON, 20 June - The tree planting ceremony sponsored by Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs of Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement was held at Dhammaythaka Nunnery in Mayangon Township this morning in commemoration of Myanmar Women's Day.
First, Minister Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Daw Mya Mya San, Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, Daw Khin Than Nwe, Daw Khin Cho Oo, Deputy Ministers U Khin Maung Win and Col Thaik Tun, Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, wives of Ministers, wife of Mayor, members of Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs and Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs and officials planted the tree in the compound of Dhammaythaka Nunnery.

(6) Minister for Transport visits Fokker Services Pte Ltd in Singapore
YANGON, 20 June - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by Managing Director of Myanma Five Star Line U Khin Maung Kyi and Managing Director of Myanma Airways U Tin Hlaing Hmi, left here by air for Singapore on 18 June and arrived there at 12.30 pm local time. The minister and party went to Fokker Services Pte Ltd.
Managing Director of Fokker Services Pte Ltd Raj-Ramannjan and officials welcomed the minister and party.
At the meeting hall, officials reported to the Minister on progress in repair of XY-ADW.
The minister and party inspected the repair of Fokker aircraft at the Fokker Services Pte Ltd and left there in the evening.

(7) 31 resign from Yenangyaung Township NLD
YANGON, 20 June - Thirty-one members resigned from National League for Democracy of Yenangyaung Township, Magway Division.
Thirty-one members of Yenangyaung Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Yenangyaung Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 1 February 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(8) 50 resign from Aunglan Township NLD
Similarly, fifty members resigned from National League for Democracy of Aunglan Township, Magway Division.
Fifty members of Aunglan Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Aunglan Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 16 March 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

YANGON, 21 June - At the invitation of Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, U Win Aung, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Union of Myanmar, will pay an official visit to Malaysia in the near future.

(10) Management Multiplier Course for USDA Executives opens in Yankin
YANGON, 20 June - Management Multiplier Course No 4/99 for Executives of Yankin Township Union Solidarity and Development Association of Yangon East District opened in the meeting hall of the association this morning.
Present on the occasion were member of the Central Executive Committee of USDA Col Thaik Tun, Secretary of Yangon Division USDA U Aye Myint, Chairman of Yankin Township Peace and Development Council U Htay Win, officials and trainees.
Col Thaik Tun made an opening speech.
Chairman U Htay Win presented K 20,000 and Head of Township Development Committee Captain Nyi Nyi Oo, K 10,000 for the association.
Secretary of Township USDA U Than Win accepted the donations.

(11) Deputy Minister for Home Affairs tours Ayeyawady Division
YANGON, 20 June - Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, accompanied by officials, inspected police stations and departmental offices under the ministry and the plantation of the ministry in Maubin and Hinthada Districts of Ayeyawady Division from 17 to 19 June.
He met heads of township officers of the general administration department from six townships of Hinthada District.

(12) Plot for construction of IPRD office in Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) inspected
YANGON, 20 June - Director-General of Information and Public Relations Department U Chit Naing inspected the plot for the construction of Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) Office at the corner of Kwamauttha Mintha Street and Kanaung Mintha Street in Ward 90 in Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) yesterday.
The Director-General also inspected Dawbon Township IPRD Office and gave instructions.

YANGON, 20 June - Delegates from ASEAN nations arrived here today to attend the 2nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime to be hosted by Myanmar at Traders Hotel from 21 to 23 June.
The delegates are 11 from Thailand, Assistant Programme Officer Ms Dahlia P Sitoemeang of ASEAN Secretariat, five from Singapore, four from Brunei Darussalam, three from Malaysia, four from Indonesia, three from Vietnam, nine from the Philippines, three from Lao People' s Democratic Republic and two from Cambodia.
They were welcomed by Deputy Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Brig-Gen Hla Tun, Ambassador of Vietnam Mr Nguyen Dang Khoa, Ambassador of the Philippines Mrs Sonia C Brady and officials of Embassies of members of ASEAN nations.
