(1)  Innwa Bank Limited of Myanmar Economic Corporation opens Mandalay Branch

YANGON, 16 June - Innwa Bank Limited of Myanmar Economic Corporation (MEC) opened Mandalay Branch at the corner of 26th-B and 84th streets in Aungmyethazan Township, Mandalay, Mandalay Division, this morning.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Lt-Gen Tin Hla said endeavours are being made strenuously day and night in implementing the 12 political, economic and social objectives for emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation.

Innwa Bank has opened branches in Yangon, Taunggyi, Mongshu and Mandalay and will open more branches in Kachin State, Shan State North and South, Taninthayi Division and Sagaing Division.

(2)  Minister meets Malaysian, Korean officials

YANGON, 16 June - Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung met Regional Director of South East Asia Representative Office of Pharmaceutical Division of Malaysia Mr Volker Braun and party who called at his office at 1.15 pm today.

Similarly, Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung met Managing Director of Sulzer Technology Corporation of Thailand Mr Walter Herter and party who called at his office at 2 pm today.

Next, Minister U Aung Thaung met Managing Director of Myanmar Daewoo Limited of Republic of Korea Mr Tae-Chul Shin and party who called at his office at 5 pm today.

Also present at the calls were Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Brig-Gen Kyaw Win and directors-general and managing-directors of departments and enterprises.

(3)  Minister meets UN-SIAP officials

YANGON, 16 June - Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha met Director Mr Lau Kak En and Lecturer Mr Bijoy Raychudhuri of the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UN-SIAP) who called at his office this evening.

Also present at the call were officials of the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development.

(4)  Minister inspects MAI office

YANGON, 16 June - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Deputy Minister U Pe Than and officials inspected Myanmar Airways International office under repair on Bo Aung Kyaw Street this morning.

Managing Director of Myanma Airways U Tin Hlaing Hmi reported on condition of the office.

The minister and party went to No 7 Sule Wharf.

The minister then boarded mv Sagaing of Myanma Five Star Line and inspected imported materials from the People's Republic of China for Maha Bandoola Bridge Project.

Managing Director of MFSL U Khin Maung Kyi reported on works.

The minister inspected unloading of beams, iron bars and containers and maintenance of ship.

(5)  Minister meets Japanese film Director

YANGON, 16 June - Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung met Japanese film director Mr Koji Chino and party who called at Myanma Radio and TV on Pyay Road this afternoon.

They discussed continued shooting of "Thway" film.

Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Director-General of MRTV U Khin Maung Htay, Director-General of Information and Public Relations Department U Chit Naing, Managing Director of Printing and Publishing Enterprise U Than Maung, Managing Director of News and Periodicals Enterprise U Tin Kha, Managing Director of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise Col Bo Kyi, Adviser to the Minister for Information U Kyaw Min and Head of Office U Khin Maung Myint.

The guests were accompanied by the Defence Attache of Japanese Embassy, Myanmar film directors U Tin Yu and A-l U Hla Myo.

The minister gave instructions to officials.

(6)  Minister inspects schools in Mandalay

YANGON, 16 June - Minister for Education U Than Aung, accompanied by officials of Higher Education Department and Basic Education Department, inspected the Pre-primary School No 23 in Mandalay yesterday morning.

The Minister for Education and party proceeded to Basic Education High School No 8 in Mandalay and inspected renovation of the centenary building and multi media room of the school.

Minister U Than Aung and party later inspected lecture halls and multi-media room at Basic Education High School No 16 and gave necessary instructions.

(7)  Duties assigned in Shan State

YANGON, 16 June - A ceremony to assign duties for 1999-2000 fiscal year was held by Shan State Peace and Development Council at the Town Hall of Taunggyi on 14 June.

Present on the occasion were Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo, members of Shan State Agriculture Supervisory Committee and division, district and township level departmental officials.

(8)  Seminar on WTO Agreement on Textiles and Clothing and on Notification Obligations and Procedures begins

YANGON, 16 June - The Seminar on the WTO Agreement on Textiles and Clothing and on Notification Obligations and Procedures began in the meeting hall of the Ministry of Commerce on Strand Road this morning with an address by Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than.

This Seminar is organized by the Ministry of Commerce with the kind collaboration of the Textiles Division of the World Trade Organization-WTO. I, therefore, would like to express at the very outset, my deep appreciation and heartiest thanks to Mr Richard Hughes, the resource person of the WTO for your kind cooperation and the hard work you have put in for convening this important seminar in Myanmar.

(9)  Gems and jade sale continues

YANGON, 16 June - The 11th gems and jade sale of Myanmar Economic Holdings Ltd continued at Gems Emporium on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road from 9 am to 5 pm today.

Altogether 421 gem merchants at home and 101 from abroad totaling 522 attended the sale to date.

(10)  USDA Secretariat member meets executives in Mandalay

YANGON, 16 June - Member of the Secretariat of the Union Solidarity and Development Association U Khin Maung Thein met USDA executives and members of Mandalay Division, District and Maha Aungmye Township at the Township USDA office this afternoon.

U Khin Maung Thein explained objectives of the association, organizational and training matters, works of the association and future tasks, implementation of projects for economic development.

Executives reported on progress of the association and U Khin Maung Thein then fulfilled the requirements.

(11)  Mandalay Division MPF holds co-ord meeting

YANGON, 16 June - A work coordination meeting of Mandalay Division Myanmar Police Force for 1999 was held at the office of Division Police Commander on 14 June.

Present on the occasion were Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, Principal of Central Training Unit of Myanmar Police Force Police Brig-Gen Win Myaing, Secretary of Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Tin Ohn and officials.

The commander made a speech.

In the evening, the commander presented championship shield to No 1 Fuel Control Company after the final match of Central Command Commander's Shield Football Tournament.

(12)  Hospital equipment donated to DSGH

YANGON, 16 June - Upholding Our Three Main National Causes and honouring Tatmadaw members in the forward areas, U Ba Wan Company Sgt (retired) and Daw Tin Tin and family of No 42, First Floor, Thatipahtan Street, Tarmwe Township donated hospital equipment worth K 300,000 for Tatmadaw members being treated at Defence Services General Hospital at 10.30 am today.

Present on the occasion were Commandant of DSGH Col Tin Thein Lwin and officials and donors. The donor explained about the donation and presented medical equipment to the Commandant who accepted the donation and spoke words of thanks.

(13)  41 members resign from Pyapon Township NLD

YANGON, 16 June - Forty-one members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Pyapon Township, Ayeyawady Division.

Forty-one members of Pyapon Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Pyapon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 23 December 1998 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(14)  29 members resign from Mindon Township NLD

YANGON, 16 June - Twenty-nine members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Mindon Township, Magway Division.

Twenty-nine members of Mindon Township NLD, Magway Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Mindon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 26 May 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(15)  Blood donated for Sanpya Hospital

YANGON, 16 June - As a gesture hailing Myanmar Women's Day, Mibagonyi Blood Donation Association of Maubin Township led by Maj Sein Nyunt and Daw Nu Yin donated blood at Sanpya Hospital in Thingangyun Township this morning.

Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council and Chairman of Township Working Committee for Women's Affairs U Maung Maung Htay spoke words of honour.

Medical Superintendent Dr Aung Htut thanked the blood donors.

Pathologist Dr Daw Thida Aung explained matters related to blood.

On behalf of the association, U Aung Kyi explained the purpose of donation.

Altogether 50 members of the association donated blood.
