(1)  Central Committee for Industrial Development holds coordination meeting

YANGON, 15 June - The Central Committee for Industrial Development held work coordination meeting No 1/99 in the meeting hall of the office of Commander-in-Chief (Army) this afternoon.

Chairman of the Central Committee for Industrial Development Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye addressed the meeting.

In his address, General Maung Aye said it is the first meeting of the Central Committee for Industrial Development; the central committee will coordinate necessary measures and give guidance for development of the industrial sector throughout the entire nation.

As the country is an agrarian one, it is impossible to build the nation into an industrialized nation by leaps and bounds; therefore, in striving for development of the industrial sector, the objective calling for mechanized farming based on agriculture and establishment of an industrialized nation, is to be laid down and implemented.

In implementing that objective, it is necessary to work with the policies calling for extensive application of mechanized farming system, extension of establishment of new factories, boosting production by operating factories at full capacity and development of industrial zones and the private industrial sector.

The Government and the private sector are to cooperate in striving for development of the industrial sector of the State; only when the industrial sector, together with the agriculture sector, develop, will the nation become economically strong.
