YANGON, 12 June - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and delegation members, who went on a goodwill visit to the People's Republic of China at the invitation of State Councillor of PRC Mr Luo Gan, paid obeisance to the Buddha's Tooth Relic in Daroba Gahdhakuditaik in Beijing on 9 June.
They also paid respects to 95-year-old monk Ven. Hai Yuan, who gives close guard to the Tooth Relic.
The Secretary-1 offered robes to the monk.
They made cash donations for the Tooth Relic and later visited the site of the old pagoda, in which the Tooth Relic was enshrined.
Accompanied by officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC, Ambassador of Myanmar to PRC U Ba Htay Chit and Military Attache Col Sein Gyawt, Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and delegation members left Beijing for Xiamen in Fu Jian Province.
They were seen off at the Capital International Airport by Myanmar Embassy staff.
They arrived at Xiamen International Airport at 4.30 pm local time.
They were welcomed by Director-General Mr Zhong Xing Guo of Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal Government and officials and Consul to Hong Kong U Hla Than.
They proceeded to Xiamen Mandarin Hotel where they would stay overnight.
Vice-Mayor of Xiamen Mr Chen Weiqin called on the Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt at the hotel.

(2) Secretary-1 inspects construction of Drug Abuse Control Museum
YANGON, 12 June - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected construction of Drug Abuse Control Museum at the corner of Hanthawady Road and Kyundaw Street in Kamayut Township this morning.
Accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt arrived at the construction site of Drug Abuse Control Museum at 8.45 am.
They were welcomed by Chairman of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, deputy ministers, Deputy Commander Brig-Gen Hsan Hsint and officials.
At the briefing hall, Minister Col Tin Hlaing reported to the Secretary-1 on progress of construction work of Drug Abuse Control Museum and arrangements for greening of the museum area.
Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun, Chairman of Yuzana Construction Group U Htay Myint and officials also reported to the Secretary-1 on construction of road and greening of the environs of the museum.
Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt gave necessary instructions.
Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt inspected the construction site and left there.

(3) USDA Secretariat member meets EC members of Sagaing District and Township USDAs
YANGON, 12 June - Member of the Secretariat of the Union Solidarity and Development Association U Win Sein met Secretaries and EC members of Sagaing District and Sagaing, Myinmu, Myaung and Ngazun Township USDAs at Sagaing Division USDA Office on 11 June.
Secretaries of Division, District and Township USDAs reported on functions, economic, health and social conditions in the region.
U Win Sein gave instructions on opening of course for promotion of qualification, community welfare services, future tasks and organizational matters for increase of membership.
U Win Sein visited computer diploma course at Division USDA Office.

(4) Last beam fixed to Kitsapanadi Bridge
YANGON, 12 June - A ceremony to fix the last beam of the Kitsapanadi Bridge was held at the bridge on 10 June morning.
Precisely at 7 hours 53 minutes and 30 seconds, the auspicious time, Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun fixed the bolts of the last beam of the bridge.
Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun and party, accompanied by officials of construction project of Kitsapanadi Bridge, inspected Kyauktaw-Ponnakyun-Minchaung road.
The minister gave necessary instructions.
Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun and party arrived at Minchaung Bridge project at 11.30 am and inspected the construction of the bridge.
Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun gave instructions.
The bridge links MraukU and Kyauktaw, with reinforced concrete piers and steel frames of upper structure spans the Kitsapanadi river. Its total length is 765.8 metre with the 400 metre long main structure, and 182.9 metre long approach roads.
The bridge which can bear 60 tons of load and 8.5 metre wide, and it has two pedestrian lanes each 1.8 metre wide.

(5) Implementation of plan targets for 1999-2000 fiscal year coordinated
YANGON, 12 June - A coordination meeting on implementation of plan targets for 1999-2000 fiscal year was held at Central Command Headquarters in Mandalay on 10 June, with an address by Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint.
Also present on the occasion were Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, Deputy Commander Col Nay Win, Tactical Operations Commander Col Tun Kyi and military and civilian officials.
Officials reported on targets of plan in their respective sectors.
Afterwards, the commander presented prizes to townships, outstanding performance in collection of loans.
Mandalay Division Myanma Agricultural Development Bank could absolutely collect a sum of loan K 883.217 million from 26 townships for 1996 on 24 March 1997.
The commander inspected construction of PyinOoLwin-Mandalay Road and entrance road of Myanmar Police Force Central Training Unit.

(6) Myanmar industrial delegation leaves for ROK
YANGON, 12 June - Myanmar industrial delegation led by Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin left here for Republic of Korea by air this morning to promote bilateral industrial cooperation between the two countries and to study the production of vehicles and agricultural machinery at the invitation of Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy of ROK.
Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, heads of department and officials of Ministry of Industry-2, Ambassador of ROK Mr Chung Jung Gum, officials of Daewoo Corporation and their families.
The minister was accompanied by Managing Director of Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries U Soe Thein, Directors of Directorate of Myanma Industrial Planning U Than Htut and U Chit Lwin, General Manager of Farm Equipment Factory No 1 (Sinde) U Kyaw Kyaw and General Manager of Farm Equipment Factory No 2 (Malun) U Aye Thaung.

(7) Bilateral cooperation discussed
YANGON, 12 June - Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein met President Director Mr Purnardi Djojosudirdjo of Gold Water Co Ltd of Indonesia and party who called at his office at 10.30 am today. The minister also met Deputy Director-General Mr Koyama of Japan Development Bank and party who called at his office at 11.30 am.
They discussed bilateral cooperation.
Also present on the occasion was Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun.

(8) Minutes of Fourth Myanmar-India Central Level Joint Narcotic Drugs Control Meeting signed
YANGON, 12 June - A ceremony to sign the minutes of Fourth Myanmar-India Central Level Joint Narcotic Drugs Control Meeting was held at Forest Guest House on Shwetaunggya Road this afternoon.
The Indian delegation led by Mr JA Chowdhury left here by air this evening.
They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Secretary of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win, senior police officers Ambassador of India Mr Shyam Saran and officials.

(9) Food items that may contain dioxin banned
YANGON, 12 June - The Ministry of Health today issued a notice on prohibition of the following items of food that may contain cancer-causing dioxin.
The banned food items manufactured in and imported from Belgium, the Netherlands and European countries are frozen chicken, beef, pork and mutton, canned meat, processed meat like sausages and ham, mayonnaise, chocolate, fresh cream, ice-cream, cakes, cookies, pies, pizza, pasta, milk, butter cheese, yoghurt, baby food and milk powder and egg products.
The notice warns that import, storage, distribution and selling of these items of food are banned until the day another overriding notice or order is issued, and that violators will be dealt with according to law.

(10) 62 members resign from Taze Township NLD
YANGON, 12 June - Sixty-two members resigned from National League for Democracy of Taze Township, Sagaing Division.
Sixty-two members of Taze Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Taze Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 8 February 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(11) Myanmar Rowing Team arrives back
YANGON, 12 June - Members of Myanmar Rowing Team led by Adviser to the Ministry of Sports Col Ngo Ciin Pau, who took part in VII South-East Asian Rowing Championship and IV Merlion Rowing Championship held in Singapore, were welcomed back by Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win as well as Secretary of MOC Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department Col Thaung Htaik and officials, athletes of respective sports federations and their families, at Yangon International Airport yesterday evening.
There are 13 members in the rowing team including Manager U Kyaw Kyaw, Medical Officer Dr Theingi Hlaing and coach Cpl Kyaw Win.

(12) Minister inspects construction of MMPE Head Office
YANGON, 12 June - Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung inspected the Head Office of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise under construction on Shwetaunggya Road in Bahan Township this morning and gave necessary instructions.
At 9 am, the minister arrived at the construction site where he was welcomed by Managing Director Col Bo Kyi of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise, Deputy Director U Tin Tun of Feature Films of MMPE, Managing Director U Maung Sein of Myanmar Growing Construction Co Ltd, Adviser U Aye Soe and Chairman U Win Khin.
The minister inspected the construction work. He gave necessary instructions to the officials and left there at 10.40 am.
Myanmar Growing Construction Co Ltd has been building the MMPE Head Office since August 1997.
Ninety-eight per cent of the building has been completed.

(13) Commander attends coord meeting of agricultural supervisory committees
YANGON, 12 June - Shan State (South), District and Township Agricultural Supervisory Committees held a coordination meeting at Thanlwin Hall of Eastern Command Headquarters in Taunggyi on 9 June morning.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo, military and civilian officers and members of agricultural supervisory committees.
The commander gave instructions on works.
Officials reported on progress of tasks.
Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo coordinated with the officials concerned and fulfilled the requirements.

(14) Sagaing Division holds implementation of education development coord meeting
YANGON, 12 June - Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council held coordination meeting for implementation of education development at Mya Eya Hall in Sagaing Township on 10 June morning.
It was attended by Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, the Secretary and members of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council, district and township level officials, division, district and township education officers.
The commander gave instructions on assistance of teaching and learning aid for education development in Sagaing Division.
Officials reported progress of the plan and needs of the work. The commander fulfilled the requirements.

(15) DSGH presents cash to children of officers and other ranks
YANGON, 12 June - Defence Services General Hospital of Mingaladon presented stipends to children of its officers and other ranks for academic year 1999-2000 at the hospital this morning.
Daw Kyi Kyi Win, wife of the commandant, then presented K 157,725 for
students who have difficulty in pursuing education through Daw Khin Than Win,
followed by expression thanks by a parent of student.
