YANGON, 7 June - Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun met Director for Asian and Pacific Region of United Nations Fund for Population Activities Ms Imelda Henkin who called at his office at 2 pm today

(3) Pyinmana-Taungnyo-Taungdwingyi motor road inaugurated
YANGON, 7 June - Pyinmana-Taungnyo Taungdwingyi motor road was inaugurated at the Mandat on the road on 5 June.
It was attended by Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Brig-Gen Thein Swe of Pyinmana Station, Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Thein Zaw, senior military officers, commanding officers of regional battalions, officials of the Ministry of Construction, Chairman of Yamethin District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Htay Aung and departmental officials, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Red Cross and Fire Brigades, members of band troupe and pom pom dance troupe and locals.
Minister Maj-Gen Saw Tun and Brig-Gen Thein Swe made speeches and formally opened the motor road.
The 66-mile Pyinmana-Taungnyo-Taungdwingyi tar road links Yangon-Mandalay Road in the east and Pyay-Magway Road in the west. The road shortens the journey from Magway Division to Mandalay Division and helps ensure speedy flow of commodities.

(4) Minister for Transport visits Dalla Shipyard
YANGON, 7 June - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, together with Deputy Minister for Transport U Pe Than, Managing Director of Inland Water Transport U Tun Aung Myint, Managing Director of Myanma Port Authority U Thein Htay and officials, visited Dalla Shipyards.
Managing Director U Tun Aung Myint reported on the shipyard, renovation and repair of ships and staff matters.
The minister and party were conducted round by Superintending Engineer U Charlie Than.
The minister gave instructions on upgrading the shipyard, maintenance of machinery and engines and work-site safety.
Afterwards, the minister and party met officials and the staff of the shipyard.
The deputy minister reported on functions of the shipyards and works for upgrading them.
Then, officials and Deputy General Manager (Engineering) U Maung Maung Tin reported on their works.
The minister gave instructions on availability of iron plates and machinery, the use of iron plates and machinery among ten shipyards and the works for upgrading the shipyards.

(5) Minister meets officials of UNFPA, Int'l Red Cross Societies
YANGON, 7 June - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein met Director Ms Imelda Henkin of Asia and Pacific Region of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) based in New York who called at his office at 1 pm today.
Similarly, the minister met Under Secretary-General of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Ms Margareta Wahlstrom at 2 pm.
Also present at the calls were Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo and department heads.

(6) Level-1 On-Job training Course of Planning Department opened
YANGON, 7 June - A ceremony to open the Level-l On-Job Training Course No 24 for deputy heads of office the of Planning Department Head Office, State/Division and District Planning Department Offices under the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development. was held at National Archives Department on Pyidaungsu Yeiktha Street, this morning.
It was attended by Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, directors-general of departments under the ministry, directors of PD and officials, guests and trainees.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister U Soe Tha said that all trainees are to successfully materialize the policies and objectives of the department after realizing them, urging them to value their works. He spoke of the need to work with goodwill towards the State and the department.
A total of 84 deputy heads of office are attending the course.

(7) Forestry Minister meets officials
YANGON, 7 June - Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone met with officials of Forest Department, Myanma Timber Enterprise and joint ventures of Mandalay and Sagaing Divisions at No 103 Mandalay Amarapura Saw Mill on 4 June.
The minister also inspected No-513 Briquette Factory.
In the evening, the minister inspected teak rafts at Nyaungbingyi Jetty in Monywa and No-5 Plywood Factory.
The next day, he met with officials and sought means to supply raw materials to entrepreneurs.

(8) Myanmar Junior golfers team leaves for Singapore
YANGON, 7 June - The junior golfers team of Myanmar Golf Federation left here by air this morning to take part in Singapore Junior Amateur Open Golf Championship 1999 (Lee Kim Yew Challenge Trophy) which will be held in Kepple Club in Singapore from 9 to 11 June.
They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Ko Lay, President of MGF Brig-Gen Win Hlaing, officials and families.
The delegation, led by Team Manager U Tin Aung Win, includes Maung Pyi Thein Dan in 17-year Division, Maung Nay Lin Tun and Maung Kyaw Kyaw Aung in 15-year, Maung Phyo Teza Aung and Maung Kaung Myat Win in 12-year.
Junior golfers from Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, China, Thailand and Myanmar will participate in the championship.

(9) Chinese writers delegation calls on Deputy Minister
YANGON, 7 June - Chinese writers delegation led by member of Panel of Patrons of Writers Association of the People's Republic of China Mr Shu Peide called on Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt at the Ministry of Culture on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this evening.
Present at the call were Director-General U Tin Htoo of Fine Arts Department, Director-General U Myint Thein Swe of Department of Cultural Institute, Director-General U Nyunt Han of Archaeology Department, Rector of University of Culture U Law Than and officials.
At 1.30 pm, they went to Sarpay Beikman where they were welcomed by Chief Editor U Win Pes Deputy Chief Editor U Soe Myint and officials.

(11) Commander meets District USDA secretaries
YANGON, 7 June - Patron of Bago Division Union Solidarity and Development Association Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Southern Command Maj-Gen Tin Aye met with secretaries of Division/District USDAs in Bago on 5 June.
Also present on the occasion were Secretary of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Htein Win and member U Htay, chairmen of District Peace and Development Councils, secretaries of Division/District USDAs and executives.
Secretaries of Division/District USDAs explained their functions sector-wise.
The commander looked into their requirements.
Making an address on the occasion, the commander urged them to striven accord with the principles, to uplift their patriotic spirit and to actively take part in political, economic and social tasks.

(12) Sports Coach Training Course No 2/99 opens
YANGON, 7 June - Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win addressed the opening ceremony of Sports Coach Training Course No 2/99 at the dailling hall of the Institute of Sports and Physical Education this morning.
In his address, Minister Brig-Gen Sein Win said that the Government is giving encouragement for the improvement of the sports standard; the objective, Myanma Sports - the World to Conquer, was laid down and is being implemented; the course opened today will produce good coaches who will contribute much to the improvement of the sports standard.
In conclusion, the minister urged the trainees to participate in efforts for the improvement of the sports standard.
Altogether 58 trainees are attending the course.

(13) 19 members resign from Mohnyin Township NLD
YANGON, 7 June - Nineteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Mohnyin Township, Kachin State.
Nineteen members of Mohnyin Township NLD, Kachin State, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Mohnyin Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 19 April 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(14) Auditor-General's Office hold first four-monthly meeting
YANGON, 7 June - The Auditor-General's Office and State and Division auditors held first four-monthly coordination meeting at the meeting hall of the Auditor-General's Office in Ahlon Township this morning.
Present on the occasion were Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye, Deputy Auditor-General U Khin Win, Deputy Director-General of the Auditor-General's Office U Kyin Hun, directors, deputy director (Admin) and state and division auditors.
Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye gave an opening speech.
State and division auditors reported on situation of inspection, strength of the staff, staff welfare, plots for office and staff quarter and construction of buildings.
Deputy Auditor-General U Khin Win explained staff welfare matter.
In the evening, the meeting ended with remarks by Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye.

YANGON, 7 June - Seventeen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Shwebo Township, Sagaing Division.
Seventeen members of Shwebo Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own
volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Shwebo Township
Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned
on 5 January 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of
NLD.
