(3)  Myanmar to host Second Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime in June

YANGON, 2 June - A meeting was held at the Ministry of Home Affairs this afternoon to coordinate hosting of the Second Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime in Yangon in June.

Addressing the meeting, Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt said Myanmar after becoming the ASEAN member in 23 July 1997 is taking part more actively in the regional economic, social, development sectors and maintaining the regional stability.

He elaborated on Myanmar's endeavors in attending and hosting various ASEAN meetings since its admission to the association.

The Secretary-1 said the First Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime was held in Manila, the Philippines, in 1997, and Myanmar delegation led by the Minister for Home Affairs attended it.

Myanmar accepted the invitation to host the Second Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime as the nation has the capability to organize it.

The Ministry of Home Affairs already has the experience in hosting international meetings, and it played a leading role in hosting the Fourth International Heroin Conference.

Systematic hosting of international meetings enhances the dignity and pride of the nation and the people. There are fabrications floated by some radio stations of the West; and only those who have visited Myanmar can witness her true peaceful conditions. Myanmar has the ability to host the international conferences in accord with their level and possess the stability and hospitality. Other ministries should help the Ministry of Home Affairs to achieve more success in hosting the meeting.

If the international meetings held in Myanmar are assessed, it can be seen they were hosted systematically and successfully, cooperative coordination and efforts are required for successful hosting of the Second Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime.

Chairman of the Leading Committee for Hosting the Second Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing recounted experiences at the First Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime and explained arrangements being made to host the second meeting in Myanmar.

Secretary of the Leading Committee Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win presented progress in making preparations to host the meeting.
