(1) MRCS formed with 250,000 members including 160,9000 Red Cross brigade members
YANGON, 5 May - The opening ceremony of the get-together of outstanding Red Cross youths for 1999 was held at Basic Education High School 2 in Latha, Yangon, this morning with an address by Chairman of National Health Committee Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
The Secretary-1 also urged all to effectively participate in the efforts for providing public health care and bringing about national development and to make continuous efforts to become a reserve force which will contribute toward efforts for peace and tranquillity of the nation while preventing dangers of internal and external subversive elements.
To nurture the outstanding youths of new generation who will serve the interest of the nation, is a prime task for the perpetual existence and development of the Union and preservation of one's own lineage; so, under the flag of MRCS, outstanding and dynamic youths are to be nurtured continuously.
Outstanding and dynamic Red Cross youths also need to strive to have clear national outlook and to become more qualified and efficient with the aim to lead the lofty national tasks of MRCS.
The Secretary-1 then urged Red Cross youths to try to he come Red Cross leaders who set an excellent example to others.
As the Government is nurturing MRCS to become a reliable force, all need to actively carry out organizational worlds.
In conclusion, the Secretary-1 urged all to try to understand that the Government has organized the get-together of outstanding Red Cross youths with lofty objectives, to discharge the nation-building and defending duties in connection with Red Cross tasks with a view to ensuring the perpetual existence of the Union and bringing about the development of the nation, to actively participate from the assigned roles in the efforts of the Government to enable Red Cross brigades to emerge as a reserve force on which the State can rely, and to contribute towards the efforts for flourishing and propagating the sense of national solidarity and Union spirit among the national people while striving to become outstanding and dynamic Red Cross leaders who are able to dutifully undertake national tasks benefiting the nation in connection with noble Red Cross tasks.
Then, the Secretary-l accepted K 1,100000 donated by Dr Tha Yin Myat and family for the outstanding Red Cross get-together, K 300,000 by U Yaw Hset (Golden Butterfly Hotel) K 240,00 by Gems Group Co Ltd of Taunggyin K 100,000 by U Nyi Nyi and Daw Hla May and family of Inya Road and K30,000 by Dr Than Aye of Green Cross Clinic and presented certificates of honour to them.
Afterwards, President of MRCS Dr Kyaw Win thanked the well-wishers.
Later, the Secretary-l had a cordial meeting with outstanding Red Cross members.

(2) Fire fighting, rescuing skills demonstrated to mark Fire Services Day
YANGON, 5 May - Teams from the Myanmar Police Force, the Fire Services Department, the Union Solidarity and Development Association and the Myanmar Red Cross Society collectively demonstrated rescuing and fire fighting skills at Mingala Uyin Housing Complex on Banyadala Road in Mingala Taungnyunt Township this afternoon in commemoration of the 53rd Anniversary Fire Services Day.
After the demonstration of fire fighting and rescuing skills which included fire fighting in a multi-storey building and rescue of victims from there with the use of slow-down pulleys and turntable ladder, the Secretary-3 cordially met the participants in the demonstration.

(3) Appointment of Ambassador of Cambodia agreed
YANGON, 6 May - The Government of the Union of Myanmar has agreed to the appointment of Mr Nim Chantara as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the Union of Myanmar with residence in Yangon.
Mr Nim Chantara was born in Takeo Province on 24 August 1954. He started his career as Chief of Bureau of Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia from 1979 to 1980. From 1980 to 1984 he studied International Relations at Political Institute in Germany. He served as Chief of Bureau of Press Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia from 1984 to 1992. He was then appointed as Deputy Director of Immigration Department at the Ministry of Security in 1992, and since 1994, he has been serving as Deputy Director at the Ministry of Interior.
He is married and has three sons and a daughter.

(4) Minister meets Thai AGSAA officials
YANGON, 5 May - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe met with Managing Director of Thai Airport Ground Services Airports Authority of Thailand Air Chief Marshal Nipon Sakornyen and party at his office this afternoon.
Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint and Director-General of Department of Civil Aviation U Win Maung.

(5) Minister meets Ambassador of Malaysia
YANGON, 5 May - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin met Ambassador of Malaysia Mr Dato' Muhammad Bin Noh who called at his office at 2 pm today.
Also present at the call were Managing Director U Maung Maung Tin of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications and officials.

(6) Minister attends conclusion ceremony of On-job computer course No 3/99
YANGON, 5 May - The conclusion ceremony of On- job Computer Course No 3/99 Ministry of Industry-2 was held at the ministry this morning.
Deputy Minister U Thein Tun presented first, second and third prizes to winners. Director-General U Khin Maung presented certificates to the trainees.
Director-General U Khin Maung also presented gifts to officials of Welfare Society of ICST. Then, on behalf of the trainees, a trainee spoke words of thanks.

(7) 54.000 baht for restoration of Bagan Pagoda
YANGON, 5 May - A Myanmar family in Thailand made a cash donation of 54000 baht for restoration of ancient Asawlat Pagoda (Pagoda No 718) in Bagan region at the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok on 30 April.
The well-wishers Daw May May Pu and family handed the cash to Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Hla Maung. U Hla Maung and wife Daw Thanda Khin handed K 700,000 donated by families of the Myanmar Embassy in Thailand and Myanmar families in Thailand for restoration of the pagoda to the Ministry of Culture on 21 July last year for the first time.

(8) CCDAC member meets work groups
YANGON, 5 May - Member of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Chairman of the Monitoring Committee of Work Groups Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung met personnel of work groups, and supervisory committee for Wethtigan Camp and sub-committees at the Office of Director-General of Myanmar Police Force this afternoon.
Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung made a speech on the occasion.
Then, those present on the occasion reported on their arrangements.
Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung fulfilled the requirements.

(9) Ceremony to present honour certificate of 53rd Anniversary Fire Services Day held
YANGON, 5 May - A ceremony to present honour certificate of 53rd Anniversary Fire Services Day and to present prizes was held at Head Office of FSD in Mayangon Township at 9 am today.
Present were Director-General of Fire Services Department Col Myint Tun, Deputy Director-General U Aung Soe, directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, heads of Township Fire Services Department, trainees of Women's Basic Fire Fighting Course No 8199 and trainees of Saving Life Course No 1/99 of Myanmar Police Force.
Director-General Col Myint Tun ant officials presented prizes to nine title recipients who had received medals for their outstanding performance in work.
Then, Staff Officers of one of two parade companies which won prizes in the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day handed over the two shields won for military discipline to Director-General Col Myint Tun.
Afterwards, Director-General and officials presented prizes to outstanding service personnel m various competitions.

(10) Auditor-General inspects Pabedan Township Auditor's office
YANGON, 5 May - Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye inspected Pabedan Township Auditor's Office this morning.
He gave instructions to officials Staff Officer of Township Auditor's Office Daw Kyi Kyi Win explained the administrative and inspection works to the Auditor-General who fulfilled the requirements.

YANGON, 5 May - Mr Crusher and Miss Quench contests will be held at National Theatre on 19 June.
Sponsored by Myanmar Body Building Federation and MGS Company, the contests include men's (21 and under), open division and (50 and above) events and women's (21 and under) and open division events.

(14) Myanmar selected Taekwondo team leaves for Hanoi
YANGON, 5 May - Myanmar selected Taekwondo team left here this morning for Vietnam to participate in International Invitational Taekwondo Competition to be held in Hanoi from 6 to 9 May.
The team was seen off at the airport by Director of Sports and Physical Education Department Vice-President of Myanmar Taekwondo Federation U Zaw Lin and relatives.
The team includes four athletes, Mr Jun Woong Hwan as coach and EC of MTF U Lay Tint as the leader.

(15) 32 members resign from Padaung Township NLD
YANGON, 5 May - Thirty-two members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Padaung Township, Bago Division.
Thirty-two members of Padaung Township NLD, Bago Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Padaung Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 25 January 1999 as they no longer wished to Participate in prater politics of NLD.
