(1)  State Peace and Development Council Chairman Senior General Than Shwe sends felicitations to Malaysia

YANGON, 26 Apr - On the auspicious occasion of the ascension as the eleventh Yang Di Pertuan Agong of Malaysia on 26 April 1999, Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah.

(2)  Secretary-1 offers Shwekya Thingan to Hngetpyawphudaw of Shwedagon Pagoda

YANGON 25 Apr - A ceremony to offer Shwekya Thingan to Hngetpyawphudaw of Shwedagon Pagoda was held at Old Museum Tazaung on the platform of the Pagoda at 9 am today, attended by Patron of the Committee for All-round Perpetual Renovation of the Shwedagon Pagoda Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

(3)  Secretary-2 gives instructions on agriculture in Ayeyawady Division

YANGON, 25 Apr - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, accompanied by Ministers at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung and Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Officer on Special Duty at the State Peace and Development Council Office Lt-Col Than Tint and officials, went to Zibyukyun wetland reclamation project of Myanmar Billion Group Company Ltd in Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Division, this morning.

(4)  National Iodization Day observed at International Business Centre

YANGON, 25 Apr - The National Iodization Day Ceremony was held at the International Business Centre on Pyay Road this morning, and Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein read out the opening address by Chairman of the National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

(5)  Minister inspects test well, pipeline laying in Nyaungdon

YANGON, 25 Apr - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, accompanied by Deputy Ministers U Tin Tun and Brig-Gen Thein Aung sad heads of department, arrived at No-1 Test Well near Wantayoe Village in Nyaungdon Township this afternoon.

The minister and party were welcomed by Managing Director U Kyaw Nyein of Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise and officials there.

Managing Director U Kyaw Nyein reported on completion of Nyaungdon Test Well and finding of natural gas and condensate, geological feature, position of natural gas deposits and other test wells to be drilled.

Director (Engineer) U Win then reported on progress of 10-inch and 8-inch pipelines laying from Nyaungdon Test Well to Hlinethaya Township.

The minister gave instructions on work to be done in laying natural gas pipeline and the system to transport the condensate and natural gas.

Then, the minister and party inspected the natural gas and condensate separator and iron tank in which condensate will be stored.

Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi presented K 300,000 to service personnel of MOGE for drilling the Nyaungdon No-1 Test Well and finding of natural gas and condensate.

Minister Brig-Gen Lun Thi and party inspected laying of natural gas pipeline near Yangon-Nyaungdon Road.

(6)  Minister leaves for Thailand

YANGON, 25 Apr - Myanmar delegation led by Vice-Chairman of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt left here by air for Thailand this morning to attend the 4th Ministerial Meeting of Myanmar-Thailand-Lao People's Democratic Republic on Drug Abuse Control to be held on 26 and 27 April in Bangkok, Thailand, and Second Meeting of senior officials.

(7)  30 members resigned from Thaton Township NLD

YANGON, 25 Apr - Thirty members resigned from National League for Democracy of Thaton Township, Mon State.

Thirty members of Thaton Township NLD, Mon State, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Thaton Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 17 March 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(8)  Over 45,000 eligible voters of Paung submit declarations expressing no confidence in representative-elect U Naing Thaung Nyunt of NLD

YANGON, 25 Apr - Over 45,000 eligible voters of Paung Township Constituency-2 of Mon State, submitted signed declarations expressing no confidence in U Naing Thaung Nyunt who was elected as Pyithu Hluttaw Representative of National League for Democracy at the 1990 Multi-party Democracy General Election from Paung Township Constituency-2 and no support for him at the rallies held at Kada Ward and Mottama Village on 10 April.

Over 21,500 local people of 15 villages and two wards rallied at Kada Ward in Paung.

(9)  Deputy Minister inspects Zaungtu Hydel Power Project

YANGON, 25 Apr - Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung, accompanied by officials of Hydel Power Implementation Department of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise, arrived at Zaungtu Hydel Power Project on 23 April.

On 23 and 24 April, accompanied by Project Director U Win Kyi and Project Manager U Maung Maung, the deputy minister inspected construction works of the dam, power plants and sub-power station there.

Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung met officials and officers in-charge of the project at Zaungtu Hall and gave instructions on fulfilling of the work equipment before rainy season, completion on the tasks of project more than targeted, thrift, minimizing lose and wastage, systematic use of vehicles and machinery, works coordination with the department, work-site safety and health matter.

The deputy minister then fulfilled the requirements of the workers.

(10)  Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs arrives back

YANGON, 25 Apr - A Myanmar Delegation led by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win arrived back here from Bangkok this evening by air after attending the International Symposium on Migration from 21 to 23 April.

The delegation was welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak and departmental heads of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Immigration and Population, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, and Attorney-General's Office.
