YANGON, 24 Apr - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office and heads of department, left here by Tatmadaw flight yesterday afternoon and arrived at Pyay in Bago Division at 3 pm yesterday.
First, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party went to Shwebonthamuni Hsutaungpyi Pagoda in Padaung Township, Pyay District, yesterday morning and paid homage to Buddha images in Gandakuditaiks at four archways of the pagoda.
The Secretary-1 and party went to Yadanamanaung Tawya Kyaungtaik in Pyay.
They paid homage to Kaba Shweyinaye Sayadaw Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Bhaddanta Vijjabala and offered "Thingan" to the Sayadaw.
The Secretary-1 and party then inspected progress in construction of Maha Shwemyintmo Sulamani Datpaungsu Pagoda sponsored by Bhaddanta Vijjabala.

(2) Secretary-1 inspects 250-ton rice mill in Letpadan, attends opening ceremonies of multi- media classrooms of School
YANGON, 24 Apr - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party left Pyay for Letpadan Township by helicopter at 2.10 pm today.
In the briefing hall of the mill, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan reported to the Secretary-1 on the history of the mill, investment, installation of modern machines, capacity and operation of the mill, production of bran oil, brick making-works and briquette production and production cost.
In giving instructions, the Secretary-1 said it is required to achieve balance between cost and income in building factories and mills, and priority must be given to milling rice to be exported.
He also spoke of the need to do systematic research on producing briquettes from paddy husk to be able to produce it for public use.
The Secretary-1 and party inspected production of briquette, showroom of the mill and production process of the factory.
Then, the Secretary-1 and party proceeded to Thayawady where they were welcomed by Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung and officials of District and Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental officials and USDA members and local people.
In Thayawady, the Secretary-1 attended the ceremony to open multi-media classrooms of Thayawady Township Basic Education High Schools No 1 and No 2, New Ward Model Basic Education Middle School.

(3) Ninth Summer Yamite Pahtan Special Course opened at Insein Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik
YANGON, 24 Apr - An opening ceremony of the Ninth Summer Yamite Pahtan Special Course was held at Insein Ywama Pariyatti Sarthintaik today, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Myingyan Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita invested the congregation with the Eight Precepts.
In his supplication to the Sayadaws, Deputy Minister Col Thaik Tun spoke of the importance of the worldly values and loving kindness for peace and prosperity of the world, and the value of Yamite Pahtan which teaches one to have proper reasoning and thoroughly cause and effect.
He also spoke of numerous values of the Pahtan and noted the course would make the trainees understand it properly and possess sharp reasoning power.

(4) Minister for Construction inspects new Tagwe-Kazan Road
YANGON, 24 Apr - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint and Officials of Public Works, left construction site of Bo Myat Tun Bridge (Nyaungdon) this morning and inspected the axis on the approach road of the bridge. Senior Engineer U Ye Tun reported on progress of work and work to be done to the minister who left necessary instructions on the needs to finish the earth work before monsoon, to build the new road in accord with set standards, proper use of machinery and close supervision for the work-site safety.
The minister and party proceeded to Maubin-Samalauk Section of new Tagwe-Kazan Road and inspected progress of earth work by machinery.
New Tagwe-Kazan Road which is three miles and five furlongs long, saves about 11 miles and two furlongs for the trip from Maubin to Pathein, and two miles and six furlongs for the trip from Yangon to Pathein by car.

(5) Minister meets D-G of Liberal Democratic Party Policy Research Council
YANGON, 24 Apr - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt met Director-General of Liberal Democratic Party Policy Research Council Mr Tomoiwitsu Iwakura of Japan at his office this morning.
They discussed extending cultivation of buckwheat in Myanmar. Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Brig-Gen Than Tun, Director-General of Department for Development of Border Areas and National Races Col Wunna Maung Lwin and officials.

(6) Commander inspects agricultural activities, regional development in Yangon South District
YANGON, 24 Apr - Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than inspected harvesting of summer paddy and ploughing work for monsoon paddy in Thanlyin Township, Yangon South District, this morning.
Accompanied by Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint and divisional officials, the commander first inspected harvesting and winnowing works at hybrid 6201 paddy field cultivated by Department. of Human Settlement and Housing Development. The summer paddy yielded an average 128 baskets per acre.
The commander and party inspected ploughing work for monsoon paddy there. A total of 549,700 acres of summer and monsoon ploughing works are targeted in Yangon Division for 19992000. Of them, 342,950 acres of ploughing works for summer and monsoon paddy cultivation were completed.
The commander then inspected hybrid 6201 paddy imported by Marubeni Company (Myanmar) and Myanma Agriculture Service. He met farmers of Thanlyin, Kyauktan, Khayan and Thongwa Townships.
Officials of Myanma Agriculture Service reported on per-acre-yield and cultivation of hybrid 6201 paddy.
Farmers of Thanlyin, Kyauktan, Khayan and Thongwa Townships reported on requirements of cultivation in monsoon and summer paddy, beans and pulses and extended cultivation of edible oil crops.
The commander fulfilled their requirements in coordination with the officials.

YANGON, 24 Apr - The Second Women's Affairs Cultural Course sponsored by Myanmar Theravada Buddhist Missionary (Central), Union of Myanmar Buddhist Missionary Federation and Working Group for Culture of Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs, was opened at the Dhammayon of Union of Myanmar Buddhist Missionary Federation on Shwegondaing Road in Bahan Township this morning.

(8) Extempore talks, essay competitions on elimination of iodine deficiency
YANGON, 24 Apr - The Yankin Township organizing committee for elimination of iodine deficiency held extempore talks and essay competitions at Township Union Solidarity and Development Association Office on 23 April morning.
Chairman of Yankin Township Peace and Development Council U Kyaw Swa gave a speech. Township Health Department Officer Dr Daw Khin Aye lectured on elimination of iodine deficiency. Daw Pa Pa Win explained regulations of the competitions which took place at the separate venues.

YANGON, 24 Apr - Diploma and certificate awarding ceremony for Engineer Diploma Course of Nayla Education Cooperatives Company Ltd was held at International Business Centre on Pyay Road this morning.

(12) 17 members resign from Hline Township NLD
YANGON, 24 Apr - Seventeen members resigned from National League for Democracy of Hline Township, Yangon Division.
One member of Hline Township NLD, Yangon Division, of his own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Hline Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 21 October 1998 and one followed suit on 25 January 1999, five on 18 March 1999, five on 31 March 1999 and five on 6 April 1999 totaling 17 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(13) 38 members resign from Myeik Township NLD
YANGON, 24 Apr - Thirty-eight members resigned from National League for Democracy of Myeik Township, Taninthayi Division.
Thirty-eight members of Myeik Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Myeik Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 14 January 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(14) Over 38,000 eligible voters of Paung submit declarations expressing no confidence in representative-elect U Nyan Win of NLD
YANGON, 24 Apr - Eligible voters of Paung Township Constituency-1 of Mon State, submitted signed declarations expressing no confidence in U Nyan Win who was elected as Pyithu Hluttaw Representative of National League for Democracy at the 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election from Paung Township Constituency-1 and no support for him at the rallies held at Yinnyein (North) and Zinkyaik Villages on 8 April.
Over 15,150 local people of 13 villages rallied at Yinnyein (North) Village. U Hla Aye of Yinnyein (North) Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no more wish to acknowledge representative-elect U Nyan Win of National League for Democracy.
Then, U Tun Lwin of Yinnyein (North) Village, on behalf of the voters, presented declarations of no confidence in U Nyan Win and no support for him signed by 15,492 eligible voters to member of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission Township U Sein Win.
Similarly, over 25,150 local people of 12 villages and two wards attended the rally at Zinkyaik Village.
U Tin Myint Naung of Zinkyaik Village, on behalf of the voters, expressed no confidence in U Nyan Win and no support for him. U Maung Maung Myint of the village on behalf of the voters, presented declarations of no confidence in U Nyan Win and no support for him signed by 20,195 eligible voters to Secretary of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Sub-commission U Soe Min.
Out of 56,187 eligible voters of Paung Township Constituency-1 of Mon State,
20,032 or 35.65 percent voted for U Nyan Win NLD in 1999 Multiparty Democracy
General Election. The number of voter presented signed petitions no confidence
in U Nyan Win and no support for him totaled 38.687 or 68.85 percent.
