(1)  Teachers of border areas cautioned to keep up vigilance against neo-colonialist perpetrations

YANGON, 21 Apr - Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt left here by Tatmadaw aircraft this morning and arrived at Mandalay at 9.25 am.

The Secretary-l attended the concluding ceremony of the Special Refresher Course No 1 for Primary Assistant Teachers in border areas at Yadana Hall of CICS (Upper Myanmar) at 10.00 am.

Afterwards, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented men's and women's model trainee awards, awards for diligence and model hostel awards.

Trainees presented K 20,000 to Zeebingyi Village basic education middle school in PyinOoLwin Township.

The Secretary-l cordially met the trainees.

Accompanied by officials, the Secretary-1 inspected progress in construction of buildings at Myanmar Police Force Central Training Unit and Central Fire Services Training School.

On his way to Mandalay, he inspected expansion of Mandalay-PyinOoLwin Road.

In Mandalay, he paid respects to Sayadaws led by Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vimala in Kinwunmingyi Monastery.

He then visited the monastery which was built by Kinwunmingyi in 1241 ME (1879 AD) and inspected sections which need renovations.

It is the only wooden monastery in Myanmar built with Myanmar and Western designs.

The Secretary-l and party then paid obeisance to Maha Muni Buddha Image and offered Shwethingan to the image.

They also presented cash donations to the pagoda.

They arrived back here by air in the evening.

(2)  Minister meets Ambassadors of ROK, Malaysia

YANGON 21 Apr - Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint met General Manager Mr Zou Weimin of 2nd Oversea Business department of China Metallurgical Construction (Group) and Mr Lin Jian at his office this afternoon.

Ambassador of Republic of Korea Mr Chung Jung Gum called-on Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint at his office at 3 pm today.

Ambassador of Malaysia Dato Muhammad Bin Noh also called on Minister Brig-Gen Ohn Myint at his office at 4 pm today.

Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein and officials.

(3)  Meeting held to coordinate preparatory works for Y2K problem

YANGON, 21 Apr - A coordination meeting on preparatory works of the National Supervisory Committee for Y2K Problem and departmental and private organizations was held in the training hall of the communications, posts and telegraphs training school this afternoon.

It was attended by Vice-Chairman of the National Supervisory Committee for Y2K Problem Deputy Minister for Science and Technology U Hlaing Win and members, subcommittee members, representatives of departments and enterprises under the Ministry of Transport, officials of state-owned and private banks and guests.

Deputy Minister U Hlaing Win made a speech.

Chairman of Subcommittee for Y2K Data Collection and Compilation and Assessing Y2K Problem U Tin Win Aung also presented suggestions and findings related to Y2K problem enumeration.

Then, a general round of discussions followed.

The meeting ended with concluding remarks by Deputy Minister U Hlaing Win.

(4)  Stimulant tablets seized in Mongshu Gemland

YANGON, 21 Apr - A combined team comprising Tatmadawmen from regional battalion, ,members of Defence Services Intelligence and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, waiting at Aungmyintha region group-l in Wankan Ward in Mongshu Gemland, stopped and searched suspected car 8 Ka/4328 on 7 April.

They seized 48,980 stimulant tablets from driver Phong Kyin Kaung (a) Thein Maung, son of U Phon Kya Chin of Lashio, Nyi Sai, son of U Hlaing Kaung of Tangyang Township and Lauk El, son of U Lauk Chan of Hopang.

Action is being taken against the three according to law.

(5)  Vehicles failing to renew annual registration face fines

YANGON, 21 Apr - Authorities concerned notified that there are many cars and motorcycles which failed to renew annual registration at RTAD division, district and township offices, and registration of those vehicles will be temporarily revoked if they fail to follow the procedures on renewal of annual registration within three months after expiring annual registration period.

The fine will be K 5,000 for cars and K 3,000 for motorcycles.

(6)  Minister inspects training in various sports

YANGON 21 Apr - Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, accompanied by officials, inspected the training of football team, rowing team, volleyball team, taekwondo team, track and field, weight-lifting and table tennis teams at respective camps this morning.

The minister inspected Olympic soccer team at Padomma Sports Ground, rowing team at Inya Lake, volleyball, taekwondo, track and field and weight-lifting teams at Aung San Stadium and table tennis teams at National Swimming Pool under training for international competitions

He gave instructions to instructors and those in-charge of various teams.

The minister and party also inspected the national swimming pool.

(7)  Minister meets Chairman of Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PIT)

YANGON, 21 Apr - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi met Chairman of Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) Dr Piti Yimprasert and party who called at his office this afternoon.

They discussed energy matters.

Present also on the occasion were Deputy Ministers for Energy U Tin Tun and Brig-Gen Thein Aung and heads of department.

(8)  Commander inspects water inflow of Moebye Dam

YANGON, 21 Apr - Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of Eastern Command Maj-Gen Maung Bo inspected development works of Kathegwin village and in flow of water at Moebye Reservoir.

Accompanied by officials, the commander met local authorities and departmental personnel at the meeting hall at Shwepyiaye (Kathegwin) village on 18 April.

Regional development undertakings and farming works were discussed.

Officials explained progress in implementing the tasks sector wise. The commander gave suggestions.

At Kunlong village, the commander heard a report on planting of rubber trees along the road between Phekhon and Moebye presented by officials.

After giving instructions to officials, he inspected inflow of water at Moebye Reservoir.

(9)  Minister for Commerce inspects rice mills

YANGON, 21 Apr - Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Hsan and Managing Director U Saw Aung inspected construction of 360-ton rice re-processing plant in Hlinethaya this morning.

The minister was welcomed by General Manager U Moe Paw and officials.

The deputy minister and officials reported on measures undertaken for opening of the plant in coming December and expenditure.

The minister gave instructions on completion of the plant in time, regular check and others.

The minister and party inspected Nagahlainggu warehouse group of Myanma Agricultural Produce Trading where the deputy minister and officials reported on storage of goods and preparations for crops.

The minister gave instructions on maintenance of goods and preparedness for floods due to El Nino and La Nina.

The minister and party inspected construction of No 05 rice mill, firewood-substitute briquette factory and paddy husk briquette factory.

(10)  47 members resign from Mawlamyinekyun Township NLD

YANGON, 21 Apr - Forty-seven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Mawlamyinekyun Township, Ayeyawady Division.

Forty-seven members of Mawlamyinekyun Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Mawlamyinekyun Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 19 March 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(11)  Four members resign from Kyauktada Township NLD

YANGON, 21 Apr - Four members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Kyauktada Township, Yangon Division.

Four members of Kyauktada Township NLD, Yangon Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Kyauktada Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 18 February 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(12)  Essay Competition to mark the 1999 Myanmar Women's Day on 9 May

YANGON, 21 Apr - The Essay Competition to mark the 1999 Myanmar Women's Day organized by Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs will be held from 10 am to noon on 9 May. It will be classified as Amateur level, University/ College/Institutes level, Basic Education High School level and BEMS level.

Everyone except the students may participate in the amateur level.

Students of universities, degree colleges and colleges, institutes and training schools except Institutes of Education and Universities of Foreign Languages may take part in the University/College Institute level. The students from Eighth to Tenth Standards and Fifth to Seventh Standards may also participate in BEHS level and BEMS level.

Those wishing to participate in Amateur level may enlist at respective Township Working Committee for Women's Affairs Office, those of Universities/Colleges/Institutes level at respective universities, degree colleges, colleges, institutes and those of BEHS and BEMS levels at respective schools, not later than 7 May.

Winners in central level will be awarded on 3 July, Myanmar Women's Day.

(13)  Minister for Livestock and Fisheries inspects pig farms, feedstuff factory

YANGON, 21 Apr - Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, accompanied by Director-General of Livestock and Veterinary Department U Maung Maung Nyunt and officials, inspected pig farms and feedstuff factory in DaikU yesterday morning.

Director-General U Maung Maung Nyunt and Managing Director U Khin Maung Aye reported on raising of pigs and Division Manager Dr Zaw Myint on production of feedstuff and distribution.

The minister then gave instructions.

The minister inspected feedstuff factory and pig farms in Wanbe-inn and Phayagyi in Bago Division.

He also inspected pig farms in Pyinmabin in Mingaladon Township.
