(1)  Fifth, sixth and seventh tiers of Shwehtidaw hoisted on Shwedagon Ceremony concludes successfully according to rites

YANGON, 6 Apr - The fifth, sixth and seventh tiers of the Shwehtidaw were hoisted atop Shwedagon Pagoda today, the final day of the Shwehtidaw Hoisting ceremony of the pagoda.

Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in- Chief (Army) General Maung Aye attended the ceremony held at Mingala Mandat at Aungmyay of Yahu (North-west) corner of the pagoda and Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt hoisted the final three tiers atop the pagoda.

(2)  Seminar of UBS computerized Accounting Y2K Compliance

YANGON 6 Apr - A seminar on UBS Computerized Accounting Y2K Compliance jointly sponsored by Institute of Economics (Yangon) and Mastech Co Ltd., UBS Corporation Sdn-Bhd was held at International Business Centre this morning.

Rector of Institute of Economics (Yangon) U Maw Than extended greetings.

Chairman of Mastech co Ltd Mr Gilbert Lee reported on Customer Support Structure UBS Computerized Accounting System and Managing Director of UBS Corporation Sdn-Bhd Mr TS How on UBS Computerized Accounting.

Participants took part in the discussions.

Present on the occasion were professors and lecturers of Institute of Economics (Yangon), computer-used departments and companies, officials of computer training school, computer technicians and enthusiasts.

Discussions at the seminar will be clarified at MCC training hall on Bogyoke Aung San Street from 9 am to 5 pm on 7 April.

(3)  National Seminar on Enhancing Utilization of Research Findings begins

YANGON, 6 Apr - National Seminar on Enhancing Utilization of Research Findings was opened at the Medical Research Department on Ziwaka Street here this morning with an address delivered by Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein.

It was also attended by Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, WHO Resident Representative Dr Klaus Wagner, heads of departments and officials under the Ministry of Health, the chairperson of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, the chairman of Myanmar Medical Association, officials and guests.

(5)  Refresher course for teachers opened at UDNR

YANGON, 6 Apr - Refresher course for teachers who completed special primary teachership course of University for Development of National Races opened at Pinlon Hall on 4 April, with an address by Chairman of the University for Development of National Races Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win.

Present on the occasion were Commander of No 33 Light Infantry Division Brig-Gen Win Myint, and Military officers Rector of UDNR Col Zaw Min Thein and members of the University Council, member of Civil Service Selection -and Training Board U Aung Myint and members, members of education board, Secretary of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Ye Htut and members, department heads, professors, associate professors and heads of departments, teachers, trainees and guests.

Rector of UDNR Col Zaw Min Then reported on the course.

Commander Maj-Gen So Win and members greeted the teachers.

The course is being attended by 261 teachers of the states and divisions.

(6)  Minister inspects industries in Dagon Myothit (South)

YANGON, 6 Apr - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin and Deputy Minister U Thein Tun and officials inspected industries of the ministry at the industrial zone in Dagon Myothit (South) this afternoon.

The minister and party were welcomed by managing directors of Myanma Industrial Construction Services, Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries and Myanma Machine Tool and Electrical Industries and officials.

The minister gave instructions on location of factories, work undertaken and accommodation.

The minister inspected storage of cars produced by Myanma Suzuki Motor Co Ltd.

The minister and party also inspected production of Suzuki vehicles and dry cells and construction of factory Myanmar-Daewoo Electronics Co Ltd.

(7)  USDA Secretary General, CEC member inspect dispensary, library and tube well in Singaing, Amarapura

YANGON, 6 Apr - Secretary General of Union Solidarity and Development Association U Than Aung and member of Central Executive Committee of USDA U Than Shwe, accompanied by Secretary of Mandalay Division USDA U Tin Maung Oo and officials, inspected tube well, dispensary and library at Kinbat Village in Amarapura Township and tube well donated by Mandalay Division USDA, on 4 April.

First, General Secretary U Than Aung and party inspected the tube well in Montpaung Village, Singaing Township, Kyaukse District. Singaing Township USDA executive Daw Khin Nwe Myint reported on sinking the tube well.

They then inspected dispensary, dispensary of traditional medicine and library in Kinbat Village, Amarapura Township Secretary General U Than Aung and CEC member U Than Shwe met executives of Kyaukse, Mandalay and Amarapura District and Township USDAs. They gave instructions on extension of organization, uplift of USDA members' education, greater trust in the association and propagation of Union spirit.

YANGON, 6 Apr - Refresher course for teachers who completed special primary teachership course of University for Development of National Races opened at Pinlon Hall on 4 April, with an address by Chairman of the University for Development of National Races Council Commander of North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win.

(9)  75 members resign from TadaU Township NLD

YANGON, 6 Apr - Seventy-five members resigned from the National League for Democracy of TadaU Township, Mandalay Division.

Seventy-five members of TadaU Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to TadaU Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 17 March 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(10)  59 members resign from Thaton Township NLD

YANGON, 6 Apr - Fifty-nine members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Thaton Township, Mon State.

Fifty-nine members of Thaton Township NLD, Mon State, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Thaton Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 5 March 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(11)  Special Course on Financial Rules No 8 concludes

YANGON, 6 Apr - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt attended conclusion of Special Course on Financial Rules No 8 at the training school of Development Affairs Department in Ward 51, Dagon Myothit (North) Township, at 3 pm today.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Ministers for PBANRDA Brig-Gen Than Tun and U Kyaw Tin, Deputy Auditor-General U Khin Win, Director-General Col Thura Maung Lwin of Department for Development of Border Areas and National Races Director-General Col Myo Myint of Development Affairs Department, Director-General Daw Thin Thin of the Office of Auditor-General, deputy directors-general, directors and officials under the Ministry of PBANRDA.

Minister Col Thein Nyunt gave a speech.

Deputy Auditor-General U Khin Win presented certificates to the trainees.

(12)  Meteorology and Hydrology department holds coordination meeting

YANGON, 6 Apr - A coordination meeting to implement work for fiscal 19992000 and review work done in fiscal year 1998-99 was held at Meteorology and Hydrology Department (Head Office) this morning.

Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin delivered an address.

He spoke of the need to undertake more - work and spoke on success on Meteorological and Hydrological activities, education programmes on El Nino on TV and in papers and continued cooperation in agricultural weather report and seismography with ASEAN.

The meeting continues tomorrow.
