(3)  Myanma Industrial Development Committee, Work Committee holds meeting

YANGON, 2 Apr - Myanma Industrial Development Committee and Myanma Industrial Development Work Committee meeting 1/99 was held today at the Ministry of Industry-2, addressed by Patron of MIDC Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

The Secretary-2 said the meeting was held to review developments of the industrial sector.

The strength of the private industrialists should be used effectively for national progress as they are participating widely in the nation's industrial sector.

Thus, the government is providing assistance for the advancement of the private industries, setting up industrial zones in places where conditions are favorable.

Efforts could be made with added momentum after the formation of MIDC and MIDWC. Reassignment of the duties of ministers and deputy ministers and other reasons were the cause that slowed down the progress in developments.

Though industrial exhibitions were held for four times from 1996 to 1997, no other exhibitions could be held since 1998.

The Secretary-2 stressed the need to give suggestions for rapid progress of the industries.

Chairman of MIDC Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung said the committee is making efforts for advancement of the industries and technologies, aiming at providing capital and raw materials. Though the pace of MIDC's works could be described slow, step-by-step progress of industries can be expected as effective measures are being taken to develop the sector.

Chairman of MIDWC Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin said the committee is striving to ensure availability of farm machinery, striving to double the production of agricultural equipment. Efforts are being made in uplifting the quality of the products, cooperating with entrepreneurs and setting up industrial zones.
