YANGON, 26 Mar - Over 95.23 per cent or 38,509 eligible voters of Salingyi Township, Sagaing Division, submitted signed petitions expressing no confidence in an elected Pyithu Hluttaw representative of National League for Democracy on 21 February 1999.

The 38,509 eligible voters of the township presented their signed petitions of no confidence in U Khin Maung Kyi of NLD at Hsahton and Phoungkata regions in the township.

U Khin Maung Kyi of NLD was elected as Pyithu Hluttaw representative at the 1990 Multiparty Democracy General Election from Salingyi Township Constituency-1 with 18,126 votes or 71.74 per cent of the voters.

Over 9,538 local people attended the ceremony which was held at Hsahton region.

Trader U Tin Hsaung, on behalf of all voters, said unprecedented peace has been achieved in the nation. The government is making endeavours in building a new, peaceful, modern and developed nation, spending large sums of money. It has spent over K 130 billion for development of the entire nation and K 8.83 billion for border areas.

Thazi Dam irrigating 1,500 acres, 99 tube wells irrigating 9,900 acres, Kintat Dam irrigating 500,000 acres, Yama Dam irrigating 12,000 acres, Tanhlut Dam irrigating 2,000 acres and Thaphanseik Dam irrigating one million acres have been built in Sagaing Division.

Bridges such as Nyaungbingwin Bridge, Kampani Bridge, Nanttahle Bridge, Yut Creek Bridge, Thamayo Bridge and Phanyin Bridge have been completed. Construction of Hsinbyushin Bridge on Chindwin River is in progress.

He elaborated on the government's efforts for promotion, perpetuation and propagation of the Sasana, preservation and restoration of ancient heritage and development of other sectors such as health, education, agriculture and transport.

He said the division at present is developing in all sectors.

Drafting of the Constitution is to ensure peaceful and systematic adoption of discipline-flourishing democracy in the nation.

NLD never accepts the government's endeavours in peacefully introducing the democracy in the nation, but is demanding to give power to it.

He said NLD is always against the wish of the nation and the people, launching oppositions and criticisms on the government.

Relying on aliens, NLD formed the ten-member Hluttaw representative committee, fueling the situation to become worse.

While the State Peace and Development Council is striving for the emergence of a new, peaceful, modern and developed nation, that is its goal, NLD is making perpetrations to grab power.

NLD should be removed as it is posing as a danger to the nation-building endeavours.

The township NLD at present is a party only name with no members.

He said the people of the township have expressed no confidence in U Khin Maung Kyi and demanded to remove his name from the list of representatives-elect.

The ceremony held at Phoungkata region was attended by 7,238 local people. The signed documents were presented to members of Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission.
