(1)  Senior General Than Shwe inspects booths at Defence Services Museum

YANGON, 23 Mar - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe inspected preparations of booths in commemoration of the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day at the Defence Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road in Dagon Township this morning.

Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe, accompanied by Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman oil Leading Committee for Observance of the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla, on arrival at the Defence Services Museum at 9.30 am, was welcomed by members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than, members of the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Observance Committee and departmental officials.

(2)  General Maung Aye inspects full dress rehearsal of parade columns

YANGON, 23 Mar - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye inspected full dress rehearsal of the parade staged by columns which will take part n the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Parade, in the Resistance Park this morning.

The General arrived at the park at 5.40 am, accompanied by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of the Leading Committee for Observance of the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint and the Council members, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Vice-Admiral Nyunt Thein Commander-in-Chief (Air) Lt-Gen Kyaw Than and Chairman of Management Committee for Observance of the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Military Affairs Quartermaster-General Lt-Gen Tin Hla and senior military officers.

(3)  Deputy Prime Minister receives Chief Executive Officer of Bates Indochina Pte Ltd

YANGON, 23 Mar - Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Myanmar investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Chief Executive officer of Bates Indochina Pte Ltd of Singapore Mr Herve Deville who called at his office at 3 pm today.

Present at the call were officials of MIC office.

(4)  Minister meets Senior Vice-President of Hyundai Corporation

YANGON, 23 Mar - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi met Senior Vice President of Hyundai Corporation (Steel Division) Mr Yoon Eun-hyuko and party who called at his office yesterday evening.

Present at the call were Deputy Minister U Tin Tun Director-General U Soe Myin of Energy Planning Department and Managing Director U Kyaw Nyein of Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise.

(5)  Diet members of Japan meet FC members of MMCWA

YANGON, 23 Mar - Four Diet members led by Mr. Shomei Yokouchi of Japan Parliamentarians Federation met members of the Executive Committee of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association at the multipurpose building of MMCWA at the corner of Parami and Thanthuma Roads in South Okkalapa Township this morning.

Present on the occasion were Chairperson of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, EC members of MMCWA and officials of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and Asian Population Development Association (APDA).

Director of South-East Asia Region of IPPF Mr Matndi Nawi elaborated on working programmes of IPPF.

Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe explained the set-up of MMCWA, the background history, objectives, working programmes and future tasks to be implemented.

Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe and EC members replied to queries raised by the Japanese Diet members.

Afterwards, Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe and Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe presented gifts to the Japanese Diet members.

Then, the Japanese Diet members observed the child all round development centre and the domestic science training school opened by MMCWA.

MMCWA hosted a lunch for the Japanese Diet members at Mya Yeik Nyo Royal Hotel.

(6)  Auditor-General inspects Sangyoung Township Auditor's Office

YANGON, 23 Mar - Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye inspected Sangyoung Township Auditor's Office this afternoon.

Accompanied by officials, the auditor-general arrived at the office where he gave instructions on implementing auditing work in accordance with the set plan, completing the work yearly and forming auditor groups.

After hearing reports of the township auditor, he attended to the needs.

(7)  Mandalay Division GEC opens sugar mill

YANGON, 23 Mar - Mandalay Division Government Employees Cooperative Syndicate Ltd opened a sugar mill in Industrial Zone 2, Mandalay, yesterday.

Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San formally opened it.

Designed and built by Seinban Industrial Producers Cooperative Syndicate on a 2.5-acre plot, the entire project cost K 60 million.

Test run of the mill was completed on 15 March.

At its full capacity operation, the mill will produce 10 tons of refined sugar per day.

Minister U Aung San also met officials of the mill and urged them to strive for producing international quality sugar, to run at full capacity and to ensure system in purchasing raw materials and distributing sugar.

YANGON, 23 Mar - Minister for Industry-I U Aung Thaung met President of Kyokuyo Enterprise Co Ltd of Japan Mr Yosuke Ishizuka and party who called at his office at 3 pm today.

Present at the call were Director-General U Tin Hlaing of Directorate of Industries, Managing Director U Myint Soe of Myanma Pharmaceutical Industries and officials.

YANGON, 23 Mar - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein met Managing Director of Europ Continents of France Mr. J M Beaujolin and party who called at his office at 1.30 pm today.

(10)  ASEAN Quiz winners get prizes

YANGON, 23 Mar - Out of 56 persons who took part in ASEAN Quiz Contest in February 1999, five were presented awards by officials at Myanma Radio and Television this afternoon.

Five award winners were Veterinary Surgeon of Livestock and Fisheries Department U Soe Tint (3) of Htantabin, Daw Khin Hla Thein of Ayemyitta Street, Bohtainwin Toeche Kwetthit, Nyaunglaybin, Maung ye Win of 107, first floor, 23 Street, Latha Township, Ma Hnin Hnin Hla of 18, Manpyi Street-6, Ward-3, Thakayta Township and Ma Mon Mon Win Aung of Moenyo.

(11)  36 members resign from Myaung Township NLD

YANGON, 23 Mar - Thirty-six members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Myaung Township, Sagaing Division.

Eleven members of Myaung Township NLD, Sagaing Division, on their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Myaung Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 11 December 1998 and 17 members and eight members followed suit on 14 and 20 January 1999 respectively, totaling 36, as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(12)  72 members resign from Zalun Township NLD

YANGON, 23 Mar - Seventy two members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Zalun Township, Ayeyawady Division.

Three members of Zalun Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, on their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Zalun Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 17 March 1999 and two members and 67 members followed suit on 18 and 20 March 1999 respectively, totaling 72, as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(13)  Monitoring Committee and Working Groups of CCDAC meet

YANGON, 23 Mar - Member of Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Chairman of Monitoring Committee for Working Groups of CCDAC Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung attended a work coordination meeting between the chairman of monitoring committee and chairmen and secretaries of working groups in the meeting hall of the office of the Director-General of Myanmar Police Force this afternoon.

Secretary of CCDAC Director-General of MPF Police Maj-Gen Soe Win reported on arrangements to upgrade Wethtikan and Shwepyiaye Camps for drug-addicts.

Then, a general round of discussions followed.

Also present at the meeting were Chairman of the Working Group for Anti-drug Information Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence, secretaries of working groups and departmental officials.
