(1) General Maung Aye inspects gem extraction in Mongshu Gemland
YANGON, 13 March - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye inspected gem extraction in Mongshu Gemland in Loihsaunghtauk Camp in Mongshu Township, Shan State, on 12 March.
General Maung Aye, accompanied by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint and members of the State Peace and Development Council the Ministers and officials, flew to Mongshu Gemland by helicopter.
The General and party were welcomed by Tactical Operations Commander Col Khin Maung Soe, officials and nationalities.
General Maung Aye and party inspected gem extraction in Loihsaunghtauk Camp.
Col Khin Maung Soe and Assistant Director U Tun Latt of Myanma Gems Enterprise reported on extraction of gems in respective blocks and extraction by organizations.
General Maung Aye then gave instructions. The General and party inspected rubies mined from Mongshu Gemland.
The General and party inspected joint venture gem enterprise of Shan Yoma Co Ltd and Myanma Economic Holdings Ltd.
The General and party flew to Kunhein by helicopter. They were welcomed by Col Thein Lwin of Loilem Station, Tactical Operations Commander Col Hsan Tun of Kunhein and officials.
Commander Maj-Gen Maung Bo and Minister Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin replied to points raised in the discussions.
The Secretary-2 gave instructions on increased, production in agriculture, sufficiency of rice in the region, extended cultivation of corn and wheat, making Kunhein to possess the characteristics of the township, greening of its environs, planting of trees and prevention against forest depletion, cultivation of perennial crops and performing respective duties fully.

YANGON, 13 March - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received members of the United States-based YPO (Young 4 Presidents' Organization) who called at No 2 Tatmadaw Guest House on Inya Road in Kamayut Township at noon today.

(3) Secretary-l previews 36th Myanma Gems Emporium
YANGON, 13 March - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt previewed the 36th Myanma Gems Emporium this morning.
Accompanied by officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, the Secretary-1 arrived at Myanma Gems Museum, the venue of the Gems Emporium, at 9.15 am.
He was welcomed there by Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Health Maj,-Gen Ket Sein, Chairman of Central Committee for the 36th Myanma Gems Emporium Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein and Secretary Managing Director of Myanma Gems Enterprise U Khin Oo and members and officials.
First, the Secretary-1 previewed modern jewellery of Myanmar VES Joint-Venture Co Ltd, cut gems and jade lots to be sold at fixed price, jewellery and jade carvings which are being displayed on the ground floor of the museum, private jewellery shops and shops which sells paintings featured with the use of gems, uncut jade lots on display in the compound of the museum and jewellery and pearl lots on the top floor.
Deputy Minister U Myint Thein, Director-General U Khin Oo and officials conducted him around the museum.
Afterwards, the Secretary- I gave necessary instructions on the emporium to officials.
He also accepted a 17-inch by 25-inch figurine to the likeness of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe which is decorated with gems, from U San Myo and wife Daw Khin San Win whose shop is selling paintings featured with gems at the emporium.

(4) MIC Secretary meets Japanese entrepreneurs
YANGON, 13 March - Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman' s Office Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung met Chairman of Taiki Lumber Co Ltd and Taiki Housing Co Ltd of Japan Mr Norro Okawa and party who called at the commission office at 3 pm today.
They discussed investment matters.
Also present at the call were officials of Directorate of Investment and Companies Administration Department.

(5) Minister inspects Multi-purpose Diesel Engines Production Plant
YANGON, 13 March - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, accompanied by Deputy Minister U Thein Tun and officials, arrived at construction site of Multipurpose Diesel Engines Production Plant being built in Indagaw, Bago Division, yesterday.
The minister was welcomed by the managing directors and service personnel.
Minister Maj-Gen Saw Lwin heard reports on the project tasks presented by Deputy Minister U Thein Tun, Managing Director U Soe Thein of Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries, Managing Director U Ye Tun of Myanma Industrial Construction Services and Managing Director Col Kyaw Win of Myanma Machine Tool and Electrical Industries.
The minister gave necessary instructions and inspected the project site and construction works.

(6) 51 members resign from Dabayin Township NLD
YANGON, 13 March - Fifty-one members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Dabayin Township, Sagaing Division.
Fifty-one members of Dabayin Township NLD, Sagaing Division, on their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Dabayin Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 12 December 1998 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(7) Minister inspects railroad between Taungdwingyi and Magway Stations
YANGON, 13 March - Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, accompanied by officials, inspected all-round renovation of Shwebontha Muni Pagoda in Padaung Township, Pyay District, Bago Division, on 12 March morning.
The minister, accompanied by Deputy Minister Thura U Thaung Lwin, Commander of No 88 Light Infantry Division Brig-Gen Aye Kyway and officials, inspected rail road section between Taungdwingyi and Magway Stations by EMC, Yinchaung Bridge, Yanpeichaung Bridge and Zichaung Bridge.
He gave instructions to dig drains and to systematically build retaining walls along the railroad.

(8) Nine members resign from Mogok Township NLD
YANGON, 13 March - Nine members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Mogok Township, Mandalay Division.
Four members of Mogok Township NLD, Mandalay Division, on their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Mogok Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 24 December 1998 and five members, totalling nine, followed suit on 13 January 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(9) Chief Justice arrives back from SRV
YANGON, 13 March - Myanmar delegation led by Chief Justice U Aung Toe arrived back here by air yesterday evening from Vietnam after attending the Ad-hoc Committee Meeting on the Role of ASEAN Legislative Bodies in Face of the Regional Economic and Financial Crisis held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 9 to 18 March.
The delegation was welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig,,-Gen Win Tin, Attorney-General U Tha Tun, Ambassador of Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr Nguyen Dang Khoa, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines Mrs Sonia Cataumber Brady, justices Deputy Attorney-General and officials of Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice was accompanied by Secretary of Work Committee for National Convention Convening Commission U Aye Maung.
Chief Justice U Aung Toe also attended a seminar dealing with environmental conservation held in Manila, the Philippines, from 5 to 7 March.

(10) 555 world motor racing team introduced
YANGON, 13 March - Facts about the 555 world racing team which will take part in 1999 Formula One motor racing were presented at Hotel Equatorial yesterday afternoon
Country Manager of Tobacco Marketing Services Mr Luc de Waegh extended greetings on the occasion and presented facts about the team with tile aid of audio-visual.
The motor racing was held in Australia on 7 March and will be held in Brazil on 11 April, in Summerino on 2 May, in Monaco on 16 May, in Spain on 30 May, in Canada on 13 June, in France on 27 June, in Britain on 11 July, in Austria on 25 July, in Germany on 1 August, in Hungary on 15 August, in Belgium on 29 August, in Italy on 12 September, in Luxembourg on 26 September, in Malaysia on 17 October and in Japan on 31 October.
