(1)  Minister inspects display of Ministry of Industry-1 at Defence Services Museum

YANGON, 11 Mar - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, accompanied by Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, directors-general and managing directors, arrived at the Defence Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road this morning.

The minister inspected the booth of Ministry of Industry-l at the museum and gave instructions.

The minister and party also inspected documentary photos presented by Ministry of Industry- I in the booth of nation-building endeavours.

Ministry of Industry-1 honoured the athletes of the ministry who have won gold, silver and bronze medals in local and international competitions, at Training Hall of the ministry on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road at 1 pm.

Minister U Aung Thaung attended the ceremony and made a speech on the occasion.

Then, Minister U Aung Thaung presented cash awards to the athletes.

Deputy Ministers Brig-Gen Thein Tun and Brig-Gen Kyaw Win also presented cash awards to athletes and directors-general and managing directors.

Ministry of Industry-1 won 31 gold medals, 45 silver medals and 44 bronze medals in the local and international competitions.

(2)  Minister inspects GPO, Pabedan Post Office

YANGON, 11 Mar - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin inspected postal services today.

He arrived at Yangon General Post Office at 10 am and inspected local and overseas express parcel service, normal parcel service and money order service.

Officers in charge of the respective sections reported to him on the works.

In his meeting with the Managing Director of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications and officials responsible for postal services, officials presented to him the project to re-open the postal savings bank services, which had been suspended since 1965.

The minister gave necessary instructions.

He later inspected Pabedan Post Office.

(3)  6 executives resign from Latha Township NLD

YANGON, 11 Mar - Six executives including Chairman U Khin Hla resigned from the National League for Democracy of Latha Township, Yangon Division, on 10-3-99.

They were Chairman of Latha Township NLD U Khin Hla, Vice-Chairman U Soe Tint, Joint-Secretary U Kyot Lai, central youth organizer U Khin Maung Aye, in-charge of youth U Thein Maung and U Chu Khun Hsai.

They resigned of their own volition by sending letters of resignation, documents, signboard, flag and seals of the party to Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 10-3-99 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(4)  Pakistan Embassy donates cash, medicine to MNWCWA

YANGON, 11 Mar - The Embassy of Pakistan donated cash and medicines for tuberculosis to Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs at the office of the Department of Social Welfare this morning.

Present on the occasion were Vice-Chairperson of MNWCWA Professor Daw May May Yi, Member Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe, officials of DSW, officials of the embassy and guests.

Ambassador of Pakistan Mr Amar Hafeez explained the purpose of the donation and handed the donations including K 500,000 to Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe.

Professor Daw May May Yi expressed thanks for the donation.

(5)  Foreign Military attaches, Tatmadaw officers play friendly tennis

YANGON, 11 Mar - Foreign military attaches in Yangon and officers of the Ministry of Defence played friendly tennis on the tennis court of the city Golf Course this evening.

Dean of the Foreign military attache, Military Attache Col Vladimir I Kontchakov of Russian Federation and Deputy Director of Defence Services Intelligence Brig-Gen Kyaw Win took part in the friendly match.

A prize distribution ceremony was held after the friendly matches.

(6)  Preparations under way at H&T Ministry booth

YANGON, 11 Mar - Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu inspected preparations at the Ministry's booth at 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Exhibition yesterday.

Accompanied by officials, the deputy minister arrived at the Defence Services Museum the venue of the exhibition in the morning.

Officials explained progress in making preparations.

The deputy minister gave suggestions.

(7)  Prosthetic/Orthotic Maintenance Workshop opens

YANGON, 11 Mar - Prosthetic/Orthotic Maintenance Workshop was opened at Kalaw District People's Hospital in Kalaw on 8 March.

Professor Dr Ye Hlaing of National Rehabilitation Hospital and Dr JP Gupta of HDI-E, PHC Project (MY A/ 96/001) gave speeches.

Head of Kalaw District Health Department Dr Zaw Win formally opened it.

(8)  Commander meets industrial entrepreneurs in Mandalay

YANGON, 11 Mar - Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint met with entrepreneurs of Mandalay Industrial Zone-1 and Seinpan at the City Hall of Mandalay on 9 March morning.

Present on the occasion were Deputy Commander Col Nay Win, Secretary of Mandalay City Development Committee Col Aye Tun Shwe, Secretary of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Tin Ohn, departmental officials and entrepreneurs.

The commander made a speech on the occasion.

Afterwards, officials of subcommittees for industrial zones reported to him on work done.

The commander instructed them to strive for development of industrial zones, present requirements and work in coordination.

After the meeting, the commander went to 24th Mile Checkpoint in PyinOoLwin Township and its functions.

YANGON, 11 Mar - Minister for Industry- I U Aung Thaung met General Manager of Mitsubishi Corporation Mrs Yamanokuchi who called at his office at 3 pm today.

Present at the call were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, directors-general, managing directors and officials.

(10)  Minister meets guests from Japan, Australia

YANGON, 11 Mar - Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein met Administration Division Manager of INT Co Ltd Mr Masumi Kitani and party of Japan who called at his office at I pm today.

Managing Director of Po Hoi Import-Export Pte Ltd Mr Michael Siu and party of Australia paid a courtesy call on Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein at his office at 2 pm today.

Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thein and directors-general and managing-directors of the ministry.

(11)  Enshrinement ceremony

YANGON, 11 Mar - Religious objects will be enshrined in Shwe Bontha Muni Pagoda and its Cetis in Padaung, Pyay District, Bago Division, on 14 March (Sunday).

The pagoda is being renovated under the sponsorship of the State.

Well-wishers may donate valuables and religious objects to be enshrined in the pagoda.

(12)  23 members resign from Kyauktan Township NLD

YANGON, 11 Mar - Twenty-three members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Kyauktan Township, Yangon Division.

Three members of Kyauktan Township NLD, Yangon Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Kyauktan Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 23 February 1999, six and fourteen members followed suit on 26 February 1999 and 28 February 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.
