(1) Secretary-1 offers maggaitaw to Maha Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Image
YANGON, 10 Mar - The rites of sharing merits gained for offering the maggaitaw (sacred crested headdress) and the salwedaw (sacred sash) to Maha Zeya Atulamarazein Bronze Image in Bahan were performed at the tazaung of the image at 6.30 am today, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

(2) Chief of Staff (Army) inspects hostels and training of Myawady, Aung San columns
YANGON, 10 Mar - Chairman of Leading Committee for Observance of the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected hostels and training of Myawady and Aung San columns that would participate in the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Parade at Kyaikkasan Ground at 7 am today.
The Chief of Staff (Army) was accompanied by Chairman of Management Committee of the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Chief of Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Win Myint, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Vice-Quartermaster-General Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe and officials.

(3) Deputy-Prime Minister receives President of Tokiwa Corporation
YANGON, 10 Mar - Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received President of Tokiwa Corporation of Japan Mr Naoyuki Jeff Soga and party who called at his office at 4 pm today.
Present at the call were Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Maung Maung and officials They discussed implementation of investment projects in Myanmar by the Tokiwa Corporation and future tasks.

(4) Minister previews 36th Myanma Gems Emporium
YANGON, 10 Mar - Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint previewed the 36th Myanma Gems Emporium at Myanma Gems Mart today.
Accompanied by Deputy Minister U Myint Thein, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsan Hsint and officials, the minister inspected gem lots, jewellery, jade figurines and polished jade stones on the ground floor of the mart and jade blocks in the compound.
On the third floor, he inspected gems lots and pearl lots.
The Central Committee for Organizing the 36th Myanma Gems Emporium held a meeting at the mart.
Patron of the Committee Minister Brig-Gen Ohn Myint delivered an address.
Participants discussed arrangements for the emporium which will be held from 16 to 21 March.

(5) Heroin seized in Insein Park
YANGON, 10 Mar - Three men were arrested in a case in which, 37.42136 grams of heroin was seized from them in Insein Township on 3 March.
Acting on information members of the regional unit of Defence Services Intelligence arrested the three Than Htut, 32, son of U Bhiyakyu Hauk, of 27, Ayezeti Street, Saya San North Ward, Bahan, Tun Lwin (a) Tun Aung, 28, son of U Tun, Kyaikkaw (Theinseik) village, Bilin, and Zaw Myo Win, 20, son of U Myo Thwin, of Shwedaung, together with the narcotic drugs in Insein park.
Action has been taken against them.

(6) Organic Technology System, Organic Fertilizer Production and Odor Control Seminar held
YANGON, 10 Mar - The Organic Technology System, Organic Fertilizer Production and Odor Control Seminar was held at Myanmar Agriculture Service (Head Office) on Kanbe Road this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
Present on the occasion were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, other Ministers, deputy ministers, heads of departments and organizations and officials of private entrepreneurs.
Afterwards, Dr Mya Thida Swe Tin of Services International Co Ltd, Chief Executive Officer Mr Gooi Sin of Organic Technology System Institute, Chairman Expert Dr Dale Hallcom and U Maung Maung Swe Tin of Services International Co Ltd reported on OTS.
Participants took part in the discussions.

(7) Health Ministry and WHO co-sponsor health course
YANGON, 10 Mar - The Ministry of Health and WHO have co-sponsored the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Facts, Problems Revision Training Course. It began in Uttara Hall of Karaweik Palace yesterday.
The Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein said trainees of the nations of South Asia and South-East Asia are attending the course. The aims of the course are to develop data collection on health care programmes and to enhance friendship among countries of the participating nations. The course will also help improve data and facts at the hospitals and in drawing the national health plan.
Also present on the occasion were heads of departments under the ministry and other officials.
Resident Representative of WHO Dr Klaus Wagner also made a speech.
Trainees of Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar and observers are attending it.
The two-week course will be conducted till 19 March.

(8) Minister for Construction inspects Yangon Sittway Road
YANGON, 10 Mar - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, accompanied by Deputy Managing Director of Public Works U Thant Zin, Rakhine State Superintending Engineer U Soe Myint, Director-General of Information and Public Relation Department U Chit Naing and officials, inspected roads and bridges along the Yangon-Sittway Road on 4 March.
The Minister and party inspected progress of work on Min Creek Bridge. The minister gave instructions on completion of the bridge as scheduled, supervision for work-site safety and systematic use of materials.
The minister inspected construction of road and paving of road on Sittway-Ponnagyun section. He met regional people who participated in construction of Yangon-Sittway Road.
The minister visited Yoe Creek TadaU Pagoda and Yoe Creek Bridge and gave instructions on maintenance of the bridge for durability.
The minister inspected construction of Pikauk Creek Bailey Bridge.
On 5 March, the minister and party inspected Kyauktaw-Minbya section and construction of Yaw Creek Bridge and fulfilled the requirements.
The 1,100-foot Yaw Creek Bridge links Ann and Minbya.
The minister also inspected Dalet Creek Bridge which will be opened soon.

(9) 168 members resign from Ayadaw Township NLD
YANGON, 11 Mar - One hundred and sixty-eight members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Ayadaw Township, Sagaing Division.
Seven members of Ayadaw Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Ayadaw Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 15 December 1998. Seventy-three and eighty-eight members followed suit on 22 December 1998 and 26 December 1998 respectively as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(10) 112 members resign from Taze Township NLD
YANGON 10 Mar - One hundred and twelve members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Taze Township, Sagaing Division.
Forty-seven members of Taze Township NLD, Sagaing Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Taze Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 20 December 1998, ninety, nine and thirty-seven members followed suit on 22 December 1998, 24 December 1998 and 12 January 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(11) Donations made to hail 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day
YANGON, 10 Mar - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe donated medical equipment and cash for No 2 Military Hospital (500-bed) at the hospital this afternoon hailing the 54th Anniversary Armed Forces Day.
Also present on the occasion were Deputy Ministers for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint and U Pe Than, directors-general and managing directors of the ministry, commandant of the hospital and officials.
First Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe explained points about the donations.
Then, Minister Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe presented medical equipment worth K 350,000 and K 50,000 to Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han.
Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han presented a certificate of honour to the donor.
Then, Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han spoke words of thanks.
