(1) Senior General Than Shwe arrives back from inspection tour Roadways being improved for further development in Rakhine State
YANGON, 4 Mar - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe cordially met officers, other ranks and their families of Sittway Station at Bandoola Hall in Western Command, Sittway Township, Rakhine State, at 8.30 am yesterday.
Prior to the meeting, Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo also met officers and their families in Bandoola Hall of Western Command.
He explained about the political, administrative, economic affairs and staff welfare matters.
Senior General Than Shwe and party left Sittway by helicopter for Pauktaw at 8.45 am yesterday.
They were welcomed in Pauktaw by Commanding Officer of Regional Battalion Lt-Col Aung Thein, Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council U Maung Maung and officials, teachers, students, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross Society and Auxiliary Fire Brigade.
The Senior General and party inspected Pauktaw.
The ministers met service personnel and local residents at Township Peace and Development Council office.
Secretary of Township Peace and Development Council U Kyaw Zan Hla and in-charge of Township Myanma Agriculture Service U Aung San Tha reported to the ministers on construction of the jetty at Pauktaw Port, township power supply, renovation of Township People's Hospital and township agriculture services.
Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt and Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung attended to their needs for development of the township.
Then, Senior General Than Shwe cordially met departmental officials and service personnel and presented a television set for Township USDA.

(2) MV Kengtung starts maiden voyage from Yangon Port
YANGON, 4 Mar - The Kengtung started her maiden voyage from Yangon Port today.
The 12,000-ton multipurpose marine vessel was the second of its kind built for Myanma Five Star Line with machines and parts purchased from the Chinese National Machinery Export and Import Corporation of the People's Republic of China.
The ceremony to mark the Kengtung's first voyage at Nanthida Jetty was attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Ministers at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung and Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Transport and specially invited guests.

YANGON, 4 Mar - The 90th Birthday Anniversary of Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Myingyan Sayadaw Bhaddanta Sobhita was held at South Dagon Nikaya Sarthintaik in Ward 26, Dagon Myothit (South), this morning, attended by Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint.

(5) 40,000 stimulants seized in Monghsu
YANGON, 4 Mar - A combined team including members of Tatmadaw of local battalion, intelligence unit, Myanmar Police Force and Ward Peace and Development Council, acting on information, lay in wait on 22 February at Loisaunghsauk Ward, Monghsu Gems Land, Monghsu, Shan State (South) and held Kyin Htaik, 40, son of U Laukshan of Kaungpein Village, Hsenwi, together with 200 packets of stimulant which contains 200 stimulants each totaling 40,000 bearing WY words kept in a plastic sack.
Action is being taken against him according to law.

(6) 11 members resign from Hsawlaw Township NLD
YANGON, 4 Mar - Eleven members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Hsawlaw Township, Kachin State.
Eleven member of Hsawlaw Township NLD, Kachin State, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Hsawlaw Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 15 December 1998 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

YANGON, 4 Mar - One hundred and ninety-six members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Danubyu Township, Ayeyawady Division.
One hundred and ninety-six member of Danubyu Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Danubyu Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 24 December 1998 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(8) Minister inspects construction of Yangon Mandalay microwave link in Bago, Mandalay Divisions
YANGON, 4 Mar - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin inspected Yangon-Mandalay microwave link project covered by the main project for development of the regions on the west bank of the Ayeyawady River and other communication services in Bago and Magway Divisions from 25 February to 3 March.
He inspected construction works for Yangon-Mandalay microwave link in Pyay on 25 February, construction of microwave station and tower in Kyogon Village opposite Pyay, the microwave stations and towers under construction on Kywelan Hill in Mindon Township, in Shantatgyi Village and Neikantoke Village in Minbu Township and construction of tower in Minbu on 26 February.
He also inspected communication services and construction of microwave station$ and towers in Yenangyoung, Chauk, Popa, Taungdwingyi, Aunglan and Thayawady.

(12) Myanmar delegation leaves for Thailand
YANGON, 4 Mar - A Myanmar delegation led by Minister at the Office of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung left here this morning by air for Thailand to attend first meeting of ASEAN Investment Area (AIA) Council to be held in Thailand.
The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Labour Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe and officials.
The delegation includes Director U Thin Maung of Directorate of Investment
and Companies Administration.
