(2)  Conduct researches effectively contributing to materialization of national objectives of the State

YANGON, 28 Feb - The opening ceremony of the Ninth Myanma Tatmadaw Medical Seminar was held at the Tatmadaw Orthopaedic Hospital in Mingaladon today, with an address by Chairman of the National Health Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present were Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister for Labour Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, senior officers of the Ministry of Defence, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads of the Ministry of Health, Chairman of Tatmadaw Medical Research and Development Committee Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, the deputy director of Medical Services, rectors of the institutes of medicine, professors, commandants and commanding officers of the medical units and battalions, medical specialists, medical officers, nursing officers, researchers and resource persons, cadet students of the Defence Services Institute of Medicine, nursing cadets and guests.

(3)  Institute of Marine Technology gets new three-storey hostel

YANGON, 28 Feb - The inauguration ceremony of three-storey hostel of Institute of Marine Technology under the Ministry of Transport was held at the institute on Bayintnaung Road in Kamayut Township at 10.45 am today, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present on the occasion were Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, senior Tatmadaw officers, Deputy Ministers for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint and U Pe Than heads of department under the Ministry of Transport, Principal of the institute U Win Thein and officials and guests.

(4)  Multi-media Teaching Centre opened at Kamayut Township BEHS No 2

YANGON, 28 Feb - A ceremony to open Multi-media Teaching Centre of Basic Education High School No 2, Kamayut Township, was held at that school on Inya Road this afternoon, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Also present on the occasion were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsan Hsint, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, department heads, district and township authorities, the headmistress and teaching staff, students and guests.

(5)  Secretary-l inspects progress in construction work of Ngamoeyeik Bridge (Thingangyun) project

YANGON, 28 Feb - Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsan Hsint and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at the construction site of Ngamoeyeik Bridge (Thingangyun) in Thingangyun Township at 3 pm today.

They were welcomed there by Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe, Deputy Minister for Transport U Pe Than, Managing Director of Public Works U Shwe Win and officials.

Then, the Secretary-1 inspected progress in construction of Ngamoeyeik Bridge (Thingangyun).

Officials conducted the Secretary-1.

At the construction site office, Deputy Minister U Tint Swe and officials reported to the Secretary-l on progress in construction work of the bridge, final tasks for the construction project and completion in building of approach roads.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended to their needs.

Ngamoeyeik Bridge (Thingangyun), spanning Ngamoeyeik Creek, links Thingangyun Township and Dagon Myothit (South) Township.

The main bridge is 700 feet long. The approach roads on the banks of Thingangyun Township and Dagon Myothit (South) Townships are each 1,700 feet long.

The bridge has a 72 foot-wide six-lane motor-way and two six-foot-wide pedestrian lanes. The reinforced bridge can bear 60-ton loads.

(6)  107 members resign from Nyaungdon Township NLD

YANGON, 28 Feb - One hundred and seven members resigned from National League for Democracy of Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Division.

A total of 107 members of Nyaungdon Township NLD, Ayeyawady Division, on their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Nyaungdon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 16-2-99 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(7)  83 members resign from Mindon Township NLD

YANGON, 28 Feb - Eighty-three members resigned from National League for Democracy of Mindon Township, Magway Division.

Twenty-eight members of Mindon Township NLD, Magway Division, on their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Mindon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the party concerned on 1-2-99 and 24 members, 16 members and 15 members totaling 83 did so on 7-2-99, 15-2-99 and 192-99 respectively as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(8)  Commander inspects agriculture, regional development

YANGON, 28 Feb - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, accompanied by Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint, members U Kan Myint and Police Col Tin Win and divisional officials, yesterday inspected agricultural tasks and Aphyauk region development, met officials of departments concerned, town elders and farmers and fulfilled the requirement.

The commander and party arrived at Yindaikwin modern village in Taikkyi Township where they were welcomed by officials of Yangon Division Agriculture Department, Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council U Myint Than and officials. The commander and party inspected capabilities of farms equipment and water pumps.

(9)  Foreign Secretary of India concludes visit

YANGON, 28 Feb - Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Foreign Secretary of India Mr K Raghunath and delegation held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 2 pm today.

Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win and Foreign Secretary Mr K Raghunath signed the agreed minutes of Myanmar-India delegation talks and exchanged the documents.

Foreign Secretary of India Mr K Raghunath and his delegation, who have been here at the invitation of Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, left here by air this evening.

They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win, Ambassador of Myanmar to India U Tin Latt, Deputy Director-General of Political Department U Aung Bwa and officials.

Mr K Raghunath and party donated two carpets to members of the Board of Trustees for Maha Muni Buddha Image in Mandalay.

(10)  44th Conference of Nurses Association goes on

YANGON 28 Feb - The 44th Conference of Myanmar Nurses Association continued in the hall of the Institute of Nursing here for the second day today.

Chairperson of MNA (Central) Daw E Barbaro extended greetings.

Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association Dr Daw Khin Win Shwe clarified works being carried out by MMCWA and Myanmar National Working Committee for Women's Affairs.

Tasks related to nursing were discussed by those present group-wise.

(11)  Myanmar information delegation leaves for Singapore

YANGON, 28 Feb - A Myanmar information delegation led by Director (News) U Hla Tun of News and Periodicals Enterprise of the Ministry of Information left here for Singapore by air this afternoon to attend the 14th Meeting on Print Media of ASEAN Culture and Information Committee Working Group in Singapore.

The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Managing Director U Tin Kha of News and Periodicals Enterprise, Director-General U Chit Naing of Information and Public Relations Department, Deputy General Manager (Admin) U Htin Aung of Printing and Publishing Enterprise, officials and families.

The delegation includes Deputy Director U Tun Min of IPRD and Head of Branch (Production/in-charge) and Factory Manager U Toe Kyaw of Sarpay Beikman Press of PPE.

(12)  Ninth Medical Seminar of Tatmadaw begins

YANGON, 28 Feb - The Ninth Medical Seminar of Myanma Tatmadaw was held at Defence Services Orthopaedic Hospital (500 bed) this morning.

Present on the occasion were Chairman of Defence Services Medical Research and Development Committee Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, Deputy Director Col Aung Naing, officials of Institutes of Medicine, commandants, specialists, resource persons, cadets of Defence Services Institute of Medicine, nursing cadets and guests.

Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han made a speech and presented prizes to those who got medical literature awards.

The resource persons presented 15 medical papers including diabetes disease, obstetrics and gynecology, surgical and Orthopaedic treatment and anesthetics.

The seminar continues till 3 March.

(13)  Myanmar delegation leaves for Vietnam

YANGON, 28 Feb - A Myanmar Delegation led by Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Ohn Myint left h›re by air this morning for Vietnam to attend Seminar on Food Policy to be held in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The delegation was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung, Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Brig-Gen Zaw Tun, Counsellor Mr Phan Ngoc Thuan of Embassy of Vietnam in Yangon and officials.

The delegation includes Director-General Dr Mya Maung of Agricultural Planning Department as member.
