(2) Secretary-1 hosts dinner in honour of Union Day delegates
YANGON, 15 Feb - Chairman of the Central Committee for Observance of the 52nd Anniversary Union Day Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt hosted dinner in honour of the members of cultural troupes of national races and members of Union Solidarity and Development Association from states and divisions who had attended the Union Day celebrations in Yangon at the National Indoor Stadium-1 here this evening.
Also present on the occasion were Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, member of the State Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, ministers, the chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor of Yangon, deputy ministers the vice-mayor, Senior military officers of the Ministry of Defence, members of the Central Committee for Observance of the 52nd Anniversary Union Day and management committee, representatives of Myanmar Thabin Asiayon, Myanmar Music Asiayon and Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon and other officials.

(3) Secretary-2 inspects kitchen crop farms, road and bridge construction works
YANGON, 15 Feb - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, inspected the kitchen crop Arms and road and bridge construction works in Mingaladon and Hmawby Townships this morning.
The Secretary-2, together with Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint and officials, went to No 3 Automobile Factory of the Ministry of Industry-2 at Htaukkyant, Mingaladon Township, at 9.15 am.
They were welcomed there by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Deputy Minister for Agriculture at Irrigation U Ohn Myint, Deputy Minister for Industry-2 U Thein Tun and officials.

YANGON, 15 Feb - Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Managing Director of Yoneda Bussan Co Ltd Mr Toshio Yoneda who called at his office at 10.30 am today.

(5) Cornerstone laid for Gonnyindan Bridge in Kyaiklat Township
YANGON, 15 Feb - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun, Deputy Minister U Tint Swe, Director-General of Department of Human Settlement and Housing Development U Arnt Kyaw, Director-General of Construction Inspection Department U Soe Tint and officials attended a cornerstone laying ceremony for Gonnyindan Bridge held on Yangon-Maubin-Kyaiklat-Pyapon Road in Kyaiklat Township this morning.
The minister said the 1,820 feet long and 28 feet wide bridge will be built across Gonnyindan River. There are plenty of rivers and streams in Ayeyawady Division and Ayeyawady delta relies on only waterways, he said.

(6) 78 members resign from Tatkon Township NLD
YANGON, 15 Feb - Seventy-eight members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Tatkon Township, Mandalay Division.
Seventy-eight members of Tatkon Township NLD, Mandalay Division, of their own volition, resigned by sending letters of resignation to Tatkon Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on S January 1999 as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(7) 14 members resign from Dawei Township NLD
YANGON, 15 Feb - Fourteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy of Dawei Township, Taninthayi Division, on 25, 26 and 27 December 1998.
Seven members of Dawei Township NLD, Taninthayi Division, of their own volition, tendered their resignations by sending letters of resignation to Dawei Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 25 December, five and two members followed suit on 26 and 27 December respectively as they no longer wished to participate in party politics of NLD.

(8) Minister for Foreign Affairs leaves on four nation tour
YANGON, 15 Feb - Minister for Foreign Affairs U Win Aung left here this morning by air for Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand at the invitation of his counterparts of the respective countries.
He was seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and officials and staff of the respective embassies in Myanmar.

(9) National Convention Convening Commission meets
YANGON, 15 Feb - National Convention Convening Commission held a meeting at the meeting hall of NCCC office at 2 pm today.
Present on the occasion were Chairman Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Vice-Chairmen Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and commission members Secretary of National Convention Convening Commission and members of National Convention Convening Work Committee and National Convention Convening Management Committee reported on matters related to the National Convention.
Members of the National Convention Convening Commission took part in the discussions.
The meeting ended with remarks by Chairman Maj-Gen Saw Lwin.

(10) Bank managers of MEB in Upper Myanmar meet
YANGON, 15 Feb - A coordination meeting of bank managers of Myanma Economic Bank in Upper Myanmar was held at Mandalay City Hall this morning.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Central Command Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Minister for Finance and Revenue U Khin Maung Thein, Deputy Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Thein Aung, Deputy Commander of Central Command Col Nay Win, Mandalay Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, departmental officials, EC members of Mandalay Division Union Solidarity and Development Association and guests.
The commander delivered a speech first.
Minister U Khin Maung Thein stressed the importance of the effective use of financial resources for economic development of the country. State banks, joint venture banks and private banks are running their financial services after promulgation of laws, rules and regulations for development of banking system, he said.
He said MEB is doing banking services of border trade besides departmental and private financial matters and spoke of the need to make efforts for speedy service and winning public confidence.

(11) Minister for Transport inspects airport facilities in Mandalay, Kalay
YANGON, 15 Feb - Minister for Transport Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe and officials inspected construction of runway and airport terminal building at Kalay Airport on 14 February.
District Superintending Engineer U Win Maung reported on extension of runway, apron, laying foundation for terminal building and fencing.
The minister gave instructions on completion of the terminal building, use of money and minimizing of wastage and loss.
Member of Panel of Patrons of the Union Solidarity and Development Association Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe met district secretary and EC members at Kalay Township USDA Office and discussed the objectives of the association, code of conduct and responsibilities.
The minister inspected extension of apron, airport lounge, renovation of the counters, fencing of airport compound and security gates at Mandalay Airport.
