(2) Secretary-1 attends boat race and exhibition to mark Diamond Jubilee of Universities Boat Club (Yangon)
YANGON, 23 Dec - A ceremony to open exhibition to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Universities Boat Club (Yangon) was held in front of the building of Universities Boat Club (Yangon) on Inya Street in Kamayut Township at 5.10 pm today in conjunction with a boat race, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Also present were Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Minister for, Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, Chairman of Leading Committee for Diamond Jubilee of Universities Boat Club (Yangon) Deputy Minister for Education Dr Than Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, committee members, guests, permanent members, old members and members of Universities Boat Club (Yangon) and students.
Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt formally opened the boat race and exhibition.
Then, the Secretary-1, ministers and deputy ministers and members of Universities Boat Club (Yangon) viewed the demonstration of boat races.
The Secretary-1 and party viewed the booths of photo, boats and medals which were awarded in the past 75 years.
The boat race began today.
Rowing teams from Yangon University, Yangon Institute of Technology, Dagon University, University of Culture, Institute of Nursing (Yangon), Institute of Education (Yangon), Institute of Medicine, Botahtaung College, Hline College and Kyimyindine College took part in the boat race.

(4) Winners in 51st Anniversary Independence Day commemorative Essay, Poem, TV Quiz and Computer Drawing Contest
YANGON, 23 Dec - Winners in various level events of the 51st Anniversary Independence Day Commemorative Essay, Poem, TV Quiz and Computer Drawing Contest held on 28 and 29 November were announced today.
In accordance with the objectives of the 51st Anniversary of Independence Day, the Subcommittee for Organizing the 51st Anniversary Independence Day Commemorative Essay, Poem, TV Quiz and Computer Drawing Contest held the contest at higher and basic education levels.
The winners include first, second and third prize winners and consolation prize winners.

YANGON, 23 Dec - Sixteen members resigned from the National League for Democracy party of Kungyangon Township, Yangon Division, on 21 December.
Sixteen members of Kungyangon Township NLD party, Yangon Division, on their own volition, tendered their resignations by sending letters of resignation to Kungyangon Township Multiparty-Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 21 December as they no longer wished to participate in political activities of NLD.
Similarly, 13 members of Twantay Township NLD party, Yangon Division, on their own volition, tendered their resignations by sending letters of resignation to Twantay Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 18 December as they no longer wished to participate in political activities of NLD.

(6) Over 1,200 become USDA members
YANGON, 23 Dec - Over 1,200 people from villages of Paungtale-station, Pyay Township, Bago Division, become members of Union Solidarity and Development Association by presenting applications to Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung.
U Pan Aung, who is Central Executive Committee member of USDA, addressed the ceremony which was held at Khweye village yesterday afternoon.
Farmer U Baw Hla of Khweye village, on behalf of villagers of Khweye, Chaungcha, Chinthokkon, Kyundawgon, Alesu, Ywama and Sanetpyingyi villages, presented the applications to the minister.
The new USDA members took the oath.
Local elder U Kyaw Win spoke words of thanks.
Accompanied by officials, the minister inspected renovation of Shwebontha Muni Pagoda in Padaung, Pyay District, Bago Division.

YANGON, 23 Dec - Han Myanmar Electronics Co Ltd opened National Panasonic show room at No S11 on south-wing of the Aung San Stadium in Mingala Taungnyunt Township this morning.

YANGON, 23 Dec - Golden City Shopping Centre was opened at No 21-25 on Bagaya Street in Padonma Sports Ground in Sangyoung Township this morning.
Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department Col Hla Myint Kyaw formally opened the centre.

(9) Minister for Electric Power inspects Paunglaung Hydel Power Project
YANGON, 23 Dec - Minister for Electric Power Maj-Gen Tin Htut, accompanied by officials of Myanma Electric Power Enterprise, arrived at Paunglaung Hydel Power Project site on 21 December evening.
Then, Minister Maj-Gen Tin Htut and Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Maung Maung met personnel of the project.
Planning Officer U Wan Kyi and officials reported to the minister and deputy minister on the project with the aid of chart.
The minister gave necessary instructions to them.

(10) Donations for Defence Services General Hospital
YANGON, 23 Dec - Upholding Our Three Main National Causes, Agga Maha Thirithudhamma Theingi Daw Hse of 30, Nawaday Street, Dagon Township, donated clothes worth K 700,000 for Tatmadawmen being treated in Defence Services General Hospital today.
Likewise, Kuok Oil & Grains Ltd of 47/48, Bahosi Yeiktha, Lanmadaw Township, donated 2,000 copies of Thanmyanthu calendars valued at K 300,000 to DSGH.
Present on the occasion were commandant of DSGH, officials and donors.
The donors explained about the purpose of the donations.
The commandant and officials accepted the donations and presented certificates of honour to them.

(11) MIDC Chairman meets industrialists in Meiktila
YANGON, 23 Dec - Chairman of Myanmar Industrial Development Committee Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung met Chairman of Meiktila District Peace and Development Council and officials, industrialists from Meiktila industrial zone on 21 December.
The minister discussed the assistance to be given to the industrialists for speedy movement to the industrial zones, experimental production of cotton oil to edible oil level, demonstration of high technology on casting of steel, production of short staple cotton and local cotton clothes and disbursing loans to industrialists from Myanma Industrial Development Bank.
The minister also met faculty members and students of Technical Institutes in Kyaukpadaung, Chauk, Yenangyoung and Pyay.
He spoke on producing qualified juniors needed in building of a modern developed nation and arrangements for upgrading technical schools to institute level to enable youths from far-flung areas in States and Divisions to learn higher studies and urged the students to try to be exemplary ones.
The minister also met service personnel.
