YANGON, 11 Dec - At the invitation of His Excellency Mr Phan Van Khai, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Prime Minister of the Union of Myanmar, will attend the Sixth ASEAN Summit and Meetings of the ASEAN Heads of State/Government and Heads of State/Government of the People's Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea scheduled to be held in Hanoi commencing from 15 December 1998.

(2) Daw Kyaing Kyaing and delegates to First Myanmar Women's Conference visit Hlinethaya, Women's Development Centre
YANGON, 10 Dec - Daw Kyaing Kyaing, wife of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe; Daw Mya Mya San, wife of Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services and Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye; Dr Khin Win Shwe, wife of Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt; Daw Khin Than Nwe, wife of Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo and Daw Khin Cho Oo, wife of Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, leading a group went on an observation tour of Hlinethaya City of Industry and Women's Development Centre this morning.
In the group Chairman of Myanmar National Committee for Women's Affairs Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, wives of the members of the State Peace and Development Council, wives of the Deputy Prime Ministers and ministers, the wife of the Mayor and delegates to the First Myanmar Women's Conference from Yangon Division, Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon and Rakhine States and Sagaing Division and delegates of humanitarian associations to the conference.

(3) Singaporean Chinese Buddhists present donations worth K 19.75m to ITBMU
YANGON, 10 Dec - Chinese Buddhists of Singapore led by Rev Shi Fazhao of Golden Buddhist Temple presented two 45-passenger capacity air-conditioned buses worth K 10.2 million, a set of projector worth K 2.05 million, a trust fund of K 5 million and other donation of K 2.5 million to International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University this morning at Maha Pasana Cave, Kaba Aye.
Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt accepted the donations.
Rev Shi Fazhao and his disciples of Singapore also presented alms to 2,547 Sayadaws led by Chairman of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta Sobhita.
Also present were Sayadaws of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee and other Sayadaws, members of the Sangha of Singapore, Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi, Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Chair man of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsan Hsint, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, officials of the Ministry of RA and guests.
Secretary of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Sayadaw Abhidhaja Mah Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bhandanta Kumara administered the Five Precepts.

(4) Second Housing & Building '98 exhibition opens
YANGON, 10 Dec - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the opening ceremony of Second Housing and Building '98 exhibition at Tatmadaw Convention Hall this morning.
Also present were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Ministers at Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung and Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, deputy ministers, senior military officers, diplomats, heads of department, officials and guests.
Deputy Director-General of Human Settlement and Housing Development Department Col Tin Tun and Managing Director of TTF (Yangon) Co Ltd Mr Anant Prasertsit spoke on the occasion.
They then formally opened the exhibition.
The Secretary-2 and party observed housing and decoration materials, construction equipment, modem furniture and electronic apparatus at the booths.
Sponsored by TTF (Yangon) Co Ltd with the permission of the Ministry of Commerce, it is open from 9 am to 6 pm daily till 13 December.
Local and foreign companies are opening booths there.

(5) Total provides charity plan for schools of Social Welfare Department
YANGON, 10 Dec - Total Myanmar Exploration and Production (TMEP) today joined the Social Welfare Department in a medical and nutritional support programme to provide food to the children of the social welfare training schools, water supply and medical care.
The $ 21,000 plan is for the orphans of Kaba Aye Youth Training School, Kyaikwaing Youth Training School, Girls' Training School, Shwegondine Nursery and Htaukkyant Nursery.
TMEP would bear the expenses for one year's feeding of two eggs and three bananas per head every day at the three youth training schools, water supply at Htaukkyant Nursery and South Okkalapa Monastic Education Primary School, providing medical care to the children of the three youth training schools, two nurseries and one monastic education school as well as supply of medicines.
General Manager Mr M Viallard of TMEP handed the related documents on the charity plan to Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, who later thanked the donor.
The donation ceremony took place at the Girls Training School, 49, Malikha Street, Mayangon Township, this morning.

YANGON, 10 Dec - Thirty-five members including Vice-Chairman U Myint Thwin resigned from the National League for Democracy party of Meiktila Township, Mandalay Division, on 3 December.
Thirty-five members of Meiktila Township NLD party, Mandalay Division, on their own volition, tendered their resignations by sending letters of resignation to Meiktila Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the party concerned on 3 December as they no longer wished to participated in political activities of NLD.

(7) Monghsat Township NLD dissolved
YANGON, 10 Dec - The Executive Committee members and all members of Monghsat Township National League for Democracy, Shan State (East), tendered their resignations and dissolved the Township NLD on their own volition on 5 December 1998.
Monghsat Township NLD was first formed on 23 March 1989 with 22 EC members. Out of 22 EC members, 20 were left. The remaining EC members of the Township NLD resigned from the party membership on their own volition since they no longer wished to continue to take part in NLD's political activities. They notified the office of Monghsat Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission and the chairman of the party concerned.
On 5 December, personnel of the township NLD dissolved it by handing over the seals and documents to the Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission.

(8) USDA members urged to help farmers at work
YANGON, 10 Dec - Member of the Central Executive Committee of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Immigration and Population U Saw Tun inspected regional development undertakings in Maubin District yesterday.
Accompanied by Deputy Minister U Maung Aung and officials of the ministry, he arrived at Maubin Township, Ayeyawady Division, yesterday afternoon and was welcomed there by Chairman of Maubin District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col J Han Shein and party.
The minister met with members of Maubin District Peace and Development Council, district-level officials, chairmen of Maubin, Nyaungdon, Pantanaw and Danubyu Township Peace and Development Councils, township agricultural managers, departmental personnel of Maubin Township, farmers, members of District and Township Union Solidarity and Development Associations and personnel of District and Township offices of Immigration and National Registration Department at the District Peace and Development Council Office.

(9) USDA members urged to actively take part in national projects
YANGON, 10 Dec - Central Executive Committee member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Mines Brig-Gen. Ohn Myint visited Toungoo Township on 7 December arriving there in the afternoon.
Accompanied by Acting Director of No 2 Mining Enterprise U Win Myint Maung and Deputy Director of Planning and Inspection Department U Tha Aung, the minister met with Deputy Commander of Southern Command Brig-Gen Maung Ni, Executive of Toungoo District Union Solidarity and Development Association U Win Naing Shein, Township USDA Secretary U Soe Myint and members at District USDA Office.
The minister spoke of the need to actively participate in the fore for successful implementation of national projects, to raise the association's prestige, to safeguard national political cause as their life and to work in accord with four political objectives.
On 8 December, the minister inspected the Accountancy Course 2 of the District USDA.
He also inspected the Accountancy Course 2 of Bago District USDA.
Bago Division Executive U Nyi Nyi Myint presented him USDA applications.
The minister donated funds for the association.

YANGON, 10 Dec - The second leg of Myanmar London Golf Tour sponsored by Myanmar Golf Federation and Myanmar Professional Golfers Association (PGA Myanmar) and organized by Han Golf Masters will be played at Aye Tha Ya Golf Club in Taunggyi from 17 to 20 December.
The tour includes professionals, men's and women's amateur contests.
Golfers are requested to enlist themselves for the contests not later than 15 December at the Aye Tha Ya Golf Club.

YANGON, 10 Dec - Fossils and antiques have been donated to the National Museum for the public.
They included: fossilized jaw of an elephant, fossilized backbone of a
vertebrate and a Myanmar sword donated by Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik
Tun on 28 October, a Thanlyet made of copper which is 9.6 inches long donated by
U Kyaw Sein and Daw Aye Myint of Lungan Ward, Pathein, on 29 October, fossilized
remains donated by Kalaywa Tawyakyaung Sayadaw and 14 pieces of fossilized
remains donated by U Bala Tin of Yinmar Village, Tawdwin region in Mingin
Township, Sagaing Division on 21 November, a taung-shay pasoe (double length
men's longyi) worn by the head man of Thebyu Village in Thayawady Township 90
years ago donated by Daw May Nwe Kyi of 66.S, Khawegyan 2nd Street, West Gyogon
Ward in Insein Township on 25 November, two earthen pipes donated by Warant
Officer Aung Tha Kyaw of Thaton on 26 November, and two sheets of tamarind sheet
