YANGON, 28 Nov - On the occasion of the Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, which falls on 28 November 1998, Senior General Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of the Union of Myanmar, has sent a message of felicitations to His Excellency Mr Maaouya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

(2) Padintan Aryondaw Wut Association presents gold plates weighing 56 ticals for Shwedagon Pagoda
YANGON, 27 Nov - A ceremony to donate 28 gold plates each weighing two ticals with a total weight of 56 ticals and to present cash to the funds (Shwepadethabin) of the Shwedagon Pagoda for 57th time was held at the Dhammayon of Padintan Aryondaw Wut Association in Kyimyindine Township, Yangon West District this morning, attended by Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
The ceremony sponsored by Padintan Aryondaw Wut Association was also at tended by Ovadacariya Sayadaws of Padintan Aryondawwut Association, nuns, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsan Hsint, officials of the Office of State Peace and Development Council, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein and officials, Panel of Patrons, Chairman and members of Padintan Aryondaw Wut Association, well-wishers, members of Wut Association, Township Union Solidarity and Development Association, Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Township Red Cross Society and members of Auxiliary Fire Brigade and guests.

(3) Cambodia, Lao, Myanmar (CLM) Industrial Cooperation Seminar commences
YANGON, 27 Nov - A ceremony to open Cambodia, Lao, Myanmar (CLM) Industrial Cooperation Seminar jointly sponsored by Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) of Japan was held at the Sedona Hotel here this morning.
Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Abel addressed the opening ceremony.
Chairman of JETRO Mr Noboru Hatakeyama and Deputy Director-General of MITI Mr Hiromu Ueno made speeches.
Also present were Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Minister at the Office of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Brig-Gen Zaw Tun, Deputy Minister for Commerce Commodore Myo Tint, Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai, senior officers of MITI, NEDC and IODC, guests, departmental officials and personnel of Union of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry totaling over 200.
The seminar will focus on strategies for competitive industrial production, strategies for further improving market-oriented economic system by promoting investment and trading, strategies for environmental preservation and bilateral cooperation on mutually beneficial basis between two nations.

(4) Secretary-l attends opening of new shopping centre in Tamway
YANGON, 27 Nov - Super One International Co (Myanmar) Ltd has opened a shopping centre at 65, Laydauntkan Road, Tamway this morning, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Vice Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander Col Hsan Hsint and Managing Director of the company Daw San San Yi formally opened it.
Ministers, the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, deputy ministers, officials of State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, local authorities, guests, artists of Meaner Motion Picture Asian and others were also present.
The ground floor houses counters selling ready-made food and consumer goods and booths on the first floor sell textiles, garments and foodstuff. Stationery, cosmetics and household items are available on the second floor, sports equipment, electronic apparatus, toys, equipment for physical exercise and gems on the third floor; and TV games in the inner rooms and on the fourth floor.
Ruby Garden Restaurant is in front. The shopping centre with car parking at the back is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm.

(5) Secretary-1 receives Chairman of JETRO
YANGON, 27 Nov - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Chairman Mr Noboru Hatakeyama and party of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) who called at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 10 am today.
Present also at the call were Minister at the Office of Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Brig-Gen Abel, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department.

(6) PRC company to conduct gold, copper mining feasibility study in Kachin State
YANGON, 27 Nov - For the first time a Chinese firm will take part in Myanmar's mining sector, agreeing to conduct feasibility study to find gold and copper deposits at two sites in Kachin State.
Liaoning Jin Di Construction Consortium Co Ltd of the People's Republic of China will launch the survey at Block 6, Sinbo Nankesan region, Waingmaw Township, Myitkyina District, and at Block 7 at Bhamo Myothit region, Bhamo Township.
The company would be permitted to buy shares of the business from the government stock after successful completion of the study, Minister for Mines Brig Gen Ohn Myint said at the signing ceremony held this morning.
He expressed belief that this venture will benefit both sides, saying the company is also engaged in mining operations in the regions of America, Asia and Africa.
Director-General of Geological Survey and Mineral Exploration Department U Soe Myint and Vice-President of the company Mr Han Zhiming signed the contract at the Ministry of Mines.
U Soe Myint, Vice Secretary-General Mr Yu Fengsheng of Liaoning Provincial Government and Mr Han Zhi Ming also spoke on the occasion.
Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Minister at State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Maung Maung presented the MIC permit to Mr Han Zhiming and Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, the work permit.
Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein, heads of department, officials of PRC Embassy and the company, guests and others were also present.

(7) Secretary-2 inspects new shopping centre
YANGON, 27 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt Gen Tin Oo inspected Kyaikkasan shopping centre of the Super One International Co (Myanmar) Ltd at 65, Laydauntkan Road, Tamway, this morning.
Accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Vice-Quartermaster-General Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, Director of Ordnance Services Col Chit Than and officials, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo arrived at Kyaikkasan shopping centre at 9 am.
They were welcomed by Managing Director of Super One International Co (Myanmar) Ltd Daw San San Yi and officials who conducted them round the shopping centre. Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected Kyaikkasan shopping centre for one hour and gave instructions to officials.

(8) Dr Khin Win Shwe, Daw Khin Than Nwe, senior military officers' wives, military attaches' wives visit exhibition on patriotism
YANGON, 27 Nov - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt Gen Khin Nyunt's wife Dr Khin Win Shwe, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo's wife Daw Khin Than Nwe, senior military officers' wives and military attaches' wives visited the Exhibition '98 - To Revitalize and Foster Patriotic Spirit which continued in the Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road for the 27th day today.
They were conducted round by Secretary of the Central Exhibition Committee Deputy Director-General of Information and Public Relations Department U Aung San and other officials.
They also enjoyed the entertainment programmes, bought books at the shop of Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association and donated K 10,800 to the artists troupes of South Okkalapa and North Okkalapa Townships.

(9) Deputy Prime Minister receives Consultant of Seoul R & D
YANGON, 27 Nov - Deputy Prime Minister Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin met Consultant Mr Jae Hoo of Seoul R & D of the Republic of Korea who called at his office at 10.30 am today.
Also present on the occasion were officials of Myanmar Investment Commission, the Government's Office and Ministry of Industry-1.
They discussed matters of technology in automobile production and engineering works.

(10) Minister for Commerce meets Ambassador of Bangladesh
YANGON, 27 Nov - Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mr Jahangir Saadat called on Minister for Commerce Maj Gen Kyaw Than at his office at 10 am today.
They discussed mutual economic cooperation between the two countries.

(11) Singapore Armed Forces delegation concludes visit to Myanmar
YANGON, 27 Nov - The delegation of Temasek Society of Singapore Armed Forces left here for Singapore by air this evening. Deputy Chief of the Office of the Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Defence and Deputy Director of Defence Services Intelligence Brig Gen Kyaw Win and officials saw them off at Yangon Intentional Airport.
The Singapore delegation visited pagodas and the Archaeological Museum in Bagan, Atumashi Golden Temple and Mandalay Hill, Defence Services Academy and Defence Services Institute of Technology in PyinOoLwin and Taunggyi and Innlay Lake in Shan State.
They visited the Defence Services Museum, Myanmar Gems Emporium, Bogyoke Aung San Market and Shwedagon Pagoda. They also made donations toward the funds of the pagoda.

(12) MPI, Iridium SEA Co Ltd sign Service Provider Agreement
YANGON, 27 Nov - Myanma Posts and Telecommunications and Iridium South-East Asia Company Limited of Thailand signed a Service Provider Agreement today.
Present at the signing ceremony held at Communications and Postal Training Centre on lower Pazundaung Road, were Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin, Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak, officials of MPT and departmental officials.
First, General Manager of MPT U Khin Soe and Chief Engineer of Iridium South-East Asia Company Ltd Mr Piyabutra Vasudhara explained the agreement.
Later, U Khin Soe and Mr Piyabutra Vasudhara signed the agreement and exchanged documents.

YANGON, 27 Nov - Eleven members of National League for Democracy of ChaungU Township, Sagaing Division, resigned from the party on 25 November 1998.
They are: U Nyi Tin, U Htay, U Tun Kha, U Kyaw Tint, U Hla Kyaing, U Hla Thein, U Than Htaik, U Thein Htaik, U Sein, U Kyaw Myint and U Than Win.
They notified ChaungU Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the respective party saying that they had resigned from the party out of their own volition since they no longer wish to carry out political activities of NLD.
