YANGON, 14 Nov - A ceremony to inaugurate Bala Minhtin Bridge (Myitkyina) constructed by the Public Works under the Ministry of Construction was held at the pandal near the bridge at Maingna, Sitapu, Myitkyina, Kachin State, this morning, addressed by Chairman of State Peace and Development Council Commander in Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe.

YANGON, 14 Nov - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe met local authorities and officials in Myitkyina and gave guidance for progress of the agriculture sector yesterday.
He was accompanied by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-3 Lt-Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander. Maj-Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Thein Sein, Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander Maj- Gen Maung Bo, Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Soe Win, Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin, ministers, the deputy minister, departmental heads and officials.
They flew from Mandalay to Myitkyina yesterday morning and arrived there at 9.15 am.
The Senior General and party were welcomed by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of the Northern Command Maj Gen Kyaw Win, military and civilian officials and family members.
The Senior General took the salute of the Guard of Honor of the Northern Command and inspected it. The Senior General gave guidance on agriculture services and projects to Kachin State, district and township authorities and departmental officials at the meeting at Myitkyina Town Hall at 10 am.
The Senior General said the purpose of their tour was to attend the inauguration ceremony of Bala Minhtin Bridge built for socio-economic development of the residents of Kachin State and provide the government's support for economic and regional development of Kachin State.

YANGON, 14 Nov - The Exhibition '98-To Revitalize and Foster Patriotic Spirit continued for fourteenth day at Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road from 9 am to 5 pm today. Students of the Defence Services Officers Testing Team, Basic Education High School- No 2 of Kyauktan Township, BEHS No 3, BEHS 1 and 2 of Pabedan Township, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association of Kamayut Townships Red Cross Brigades of Kyimyindine and Seikkan Townships, monks and lay people visited the exhibition.
The exhibition will continue till 30 November.
