(1) Senior General Than Shwe calls for efforts to safeguard stability and peace Raise farm output for self-sufficiency and export and develop agro-based industries
YANGON, 13 Nov - Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe gave instructions on the agriculture and transport services to the chairmen of State/Division Peace and Developments Councils at a meeting held in the hall of the Central Command yesterday morning.
Also present were Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-3 Lt Gen Win Myint, members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein, Commander-in chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than, Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander of the Central Command Maj Gen Ye Myint, Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander of the Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Thein Sein, Chairman of Shan State Peace and Development Council Commander of the Eastern Command Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander of the North-East Command Maj Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo, Chairman of Sagaing Division Peace and Development Council Commander of the North-West Command Maj-Gen Soe Win, Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin, Ministers, the deputy ministers, Mandalay Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein, Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development councils in Mandalay and Magway Divisions, and State/Division level departmental officials.
In his address, Senior General Than Shwe said the purpose of their tour was to give suggestions on the tasks for national economic development to the commanders and department officials.

(2) Secretary-2 inspects Aungzeya Bridge construction work
YANGON, 13 Nov - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected construction work of Aungzeya Bridge across the Hline River, which will link Insein Township and Hlinethaya Township this afternoon and gave instructions to officials.
Accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Officer on Special Duty at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint and departmental officials, the Secretary-2 inspected the construction work on the approach bridge on the bank of Insein Township, the work for reinforcing concrete slabs for the main bridge and construction of the pier at 2 pm.
At the project hall, Superintending Engineer (Planning) U Khin Maung Aye briefed the Secretary-2 on the progress of the project, Deputy Director of Waterways Department U Aung Yi on arrangements for waterways around the project areas, Deputy Director-General of Human Settlement and Housing Development Department Col Tin Tun on arrangements for resettlement of houses and shops in the project areas, the Secretary of Yangon North District and Peace and Development Council and Chairman of Insein Township Peace and Development Council on the help contributed by district and township to the project.
Afterwards, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended to their needs of resettlement of houses and shops in the project areas.

(3) Bangladesh Foreign Minister concludes goodwill visit
YANGON, 13 Nov - Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mr Abdus Samad Azad and his delegation left here by air this morning at the conclusion of their goodwill visit to Myanmar from 11 to 13 November at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw.
They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, officials of the ministry, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Myanmar Mr Jahangir Saadat and officials of the Embassy.
During his stay Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Abdus Samad Azad paid a courtesy call on Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye yesterday. The Bangladesh Foreign Minister also called on Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than and discussed matters relating to bilateral trade.
Minister U Ohn Gyaw and Minister Abdus Samad Azad held officials talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday. The two Foreign Ministers had an extensive exchange of views on bilateral relations, and on matters of mutual interest. They expressed their satisfaction on progress in bilateral relations, particularly successful conclusion of the Myanmar-Bangladesh Land boundary Treaty and trade and economic cooperation's between the two countries.
They also expressed their hope that the economic cooperation would be expanded in the framework of BIMST-EC. The two Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on the establishment of joint Commission for Cooperation between the Myanmar and Bangladesh The officials talks were followed by the signing ceremony of Myanmar-Bangladesh Land Boundary Treaty on the North- of the Naaf River and the two Foreign Ministers put their signatures on behalf of their respective Governments.

(4) Yangon Mayor and party back from observation tour
YANGON, 13 Nov - A Myanmar delegation led by Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay arrived back her; by air this morning after visiting Singapore and Malaysia at the invitation of Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia The delegation was welcomed back at Yangon International Airport by Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Vice Chairman of YCDC Vice Mayor Col Maung Pa, Secretary Col Myint Aung, committee members, Ambassador of Singapore Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow officials of the Malaysia Embassy and families.
Members of delegation Joint-Secretary U Kyi Win and committee member Col Tin Soe, Head of Department U Zaw Win and Head of Branch U Tin Win also arrived back on the same flight, Mayor U Ko Lay and party call out on Minister for National Development Affairs Mr Lin Hng Kiang at his office at 9 am on 5 November and discusses civil management matters, traffic control and construction of housing estates.
The Mayor then called on Minister for Health and Environment Affairs Mr Yeo Chew Tong at the office of the Ministry of Health at 11am. They discussed health care, environmental conservation and sending of trainees.
Next, Mayor U Ko lay met Economic Development Board of Singapore led by Mr S Chandra Das who is doing business in Myanmar.
In the evening, they observed sanitary system being contracted by Semax Company. On 9 November, Mayor U Ko Lay called on Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tan Sri Kamaruzzan Sharif at his office. They discussed mutual cooperation matter social and economic problems in the cities, traffic management, sanitation and revenue matters.
They viewed the traffic system under computer control and water supply to Kuala Lumpur City.
The mayor and party together with Minister for International Economic and Industry of Malaysia Ms YB Dato Sri Rafidah Aziz attended the opening ceremony of modern signboard factory of Metro Media Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in Nilai industrial region yesterday.

(5) Waingmaw NLD members resign
YANGON 13 Nov - Twenty-nine members of National League for Democracy of Waingmaw Township resigned from the Deputy on 20 September 1998.
They are: Maung Hteint Htaw, U Wazei Lwan Dong, U Law Chau Lwan Khong U Khaw Zon, U Khong Dong, Ma Lasei Dong Nwe, Daw Khong Naw, U Jon Dong, Daw Dong Nwe, Daw Laphein Khong Wai, U Laphein Khong Ze, U Madan Khong Lwan, U Apbyit Zaw Aung, U Maran Ma Gon, U La Chan Dong Lwan, U La Chan Ze Lwan, U La Chan Khong Yaun, U Zaung Khong, U Baran Lon, U La Paw Dong Dong, U B Sanu, U Pu, U Tin Hlaing, U Myint Wai, U Kyaw Thin and U Sa Lon Dong Dong.
They notified the Waingmaw Township Multiparty Democracy General Election Commission Office and the respective party chairman saying that they had resigned from the partly of their own volition since they had no longer wish to continue to participate in political activities of NLD.

(6) National Day ceremonies held in townships
YANGON 13 Nov - The 78th Anniversary of National Day ceremonies were held at the townships of Yangon Division this morning.
The 78th National Day was observed at Dagon Township Basic Education High School No 3 this morning.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of Dagon Township Peace and Development Council U Oo Khaing and members, Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association members, heads of schools, chairmen and members of Ward Peace and Development Councils and people totaling over 300.
First, they saluted the Union Flag. U Oo Khaing read the message of the 78th Anniversary of Union Day sent by Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Senior General Than Shwe.
Similarly, the 78th Anniversary of Union Day ceremonies were held in Lanmadaw, Latha, Thingangyun, Thanlyin, Dagon Myothit (South), Pazundaung, Botahtaung, Seikkyi-Khanaungto, Kyimyindine, Kamayut, Mingala Taungnyunt and Bahan Townships this morning.

(7) National Schools in Dagon Township observe anniversary day
YANGON, 13 Nov - The National Schools in Dagon Township, Yangon- Basic Education High School 2, Myoma Boys High School, and BEHS 3, Myoma Girls High School, observed the third anniversary day after commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee at BEHS 2 this morning, addressed by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

The Secretary-2 recalled that Myoma School was born together with the national movement in 1920 that had sparked the emergence of the National Day, adding the movement had brought out national schools that were administered by Myanmars, in which the Myoma School was in the forefront.

(8) Minister for Transport inspects departmental work in Mandalay
YANGON 13 Nov - Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, together with Director-General of Marine Administration Department U Soe Win ant officials, visited Chanmyathazi Airport in Mandalay on 10 November. They were welcomed there by service personnel of the departments under the ministry. The minister, the deputy minister and party inspected concrete-laying work for the runway of Mandalay International Airport, earthwork and installation of airfield lighting.
On 11 November the minister and party met heads of departments under the ministry in the hall of the superintending engineer of Mandalay Dockyard, and gave instructions.
Then, they inspected the functions of the dockyard.
He also met those in charge of the sections of the dockyard at the office of the superintending engineer.
Superintending Engineer U Minan La Hsaing reported on the set-up and functions of the dockyard.
The minister urged them to minimize loss and wastage and strive to become qualified service personnel who can bring honor to the department. The minister and party proceeded to Yadanabon Dockyard under the Inland Water Transport, and met those in charge of the sections.
In the afternoon, the minister and party went to Road to Mandalay Luxury Cruise Liner, and met officials and gave instructions. Next, they went to Shwekyetyet Port, where they inspected arrivals of cement transported by ships of Inland Water Transport and handling of cement at the Airport.

YANGON, 13 Nov - Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win met First Secretary Mr Kennedy Jawan (Head of Chancery) of the Malaysian Embassy who called at his office yesterday afternoon.
Present at the call were Director-General Col Hla Myint Kyaw of Sports and Physical Education Department, Officer on Special Duty at the Ministry of Sports Col Thaung Htaik, Adviser Col Ngo Ciin Pau and U Saw Gilbert Gyi and officials. They discussed mutual cooperation in sports matters.
