YANGON, 6 Nov - The Union Solidarity and Development Association Special Refresher Course No 3 and Management Course No 15 for USDA Executives concluded at the Central Public Relations Unit in Hmawby today with an address by Patron of the USDA Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe.

(2) Secretary-1 receives Ambassador of Singapore
YANGON, 6 Nov-Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Ambassador of Singapore Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 5.30 pm today.
Present at the call were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win and Director-General of the Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet.

(3) IPRD officers urged to keep track of government policies, programmes
YANGON, 6 Nov - Special Refresher Course NO 7/ 98 for Officers of the Information and Public Relations Department concluded at the training hall of the News and Periodicals Enterprise on Pansodan Street this afternoon, and Minister for information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung addressed the concluding ceremony and presented certificates to trainees and prizes to outstanding trainees.
Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Information Brig-1 Gen Aung Thein, Director General of the Information and Public Relations Department U Chit Naing, Managing Director of the Printing and Publishing Enterprise U Than Maung, Managing Director of the News and Periodicals Enterprise U Tin Kha, advisers to the Ministry of Information, directors, Head of Office of the Ministry of Information U Khin Maung Myint and departmental officials and trainees.
The minister said the purpose of conducting the course was to enable officers of the Information and Public Relations Department to have better understanding of the policies and objectives of the State, to have a correct way of thinking, to discharge their duties honestly, diligently and actively and to improve their qualities; and in addition, the course was aimed at enabling, the IPRD officers to effectively and efficiently carry out public relations work, to carry out information work effectively among the people and to serve as a link between the government and the public.

(4) Over K 3 million donated to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association
YANGON, 6 Nov - Well-wishers donated funds to Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association at the MMCWA at the corner of Thanthuma Street and Parami Road in South Okkalapa Township this morning.
Present were Chairperson, of MMCWA Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice Chairperson Dr Kin Win Shwe and EC members and well-wishers.
Mandalay Sandals Shop Owner U Tun Aye -Daw Khin Myint and family of Shwebontha Street donated K 3 million for the construction of a delivery room in Shwedaung Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association and Lieutenant Myat Moe-Ma Nan Nwe Oo K 100,000 to Vice Chairperson Dr Khin Win Shwe who presented certificates of honor to them.
Chairperson Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe thanked the donors.

(5) Minister meets foreign delegations
YANGON, 6 Nov - Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein met Professor ST Lee and party of Volunteer Cleft Mission of General Hospital of Singapore who called at his office at 1.30 pm today.
Similarly, the Minister met UNICEF Resident Representative Dr Juan R Aguilar at 2.30 pm today.
Present at the call were Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo and officials.

(6) Ways and means for tourism development
YANGON, 6 Nov - In addition to Yangon, cross-border entries with China and Thailand are also opened for the tourists to visit Myanmar, said Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin this morning.
Tourism entrepreneurs should pay special attention to restoring national pride and protect environment; he stressed- at the meeting to promote tourism industry.
They should avoid acts that may tarnish the nation's image and should give more priority on the national interests rather than theirs, he stated.
Security, economic and political stability is required for national economic progress, he noted.
Deputy Minister Brig Gen Aye Myint Kyu briefed the meeting on the industry and Director-General of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Khin Maung Latt on development plans.
Entrepreneurs explained to the meeting on matters of their industries.
The meeting at Myanmar Hotels and Tourism Services was also attended by Managing Director of MHTS U Kyi Tun and officials.

(7) 22 NLD members of Myitkyina resign
YANGON, 6 Nov - Twenty-two members of National League for Democracy of Myitkyina Township resigned from the party on 30 September 1998.
As the 22, members of NLD who are U Phaw Thaw Ladwe, Ahhsi (2), Daw Ngha Mi, U Lu Kiyo, U Hsa Mu Ri, U Ngha Hta, U Ngha Lu, U Ngha Pa, U Di Simei, U Si Puche, U Ar Di, U Hi Lu Mei, U Khaw Hsi, U Kong Kaung, U Laphyaw Dong Kong, U Lahton Dong Ju, U A Bawm Lein, U Jun Zan Lun Dai, U Yaw Htein, U Houng Zei, U Zi Kong Htan and U N Khun Naw, have no more wish to participate in political activities of NLD, they on their own volition had made the resignation by sending letters of resignation to Township Multi-party Democracy General Election Commission Office and the respective party chairman and resigned.

(8) Exhibition '98-To Revitalize and Foster Patriotic spirit continues for sixth day
YANGON, 6 Nov - The Exhibition '98-To Revitalize and Foster Patriotic Spirit continued for the sixth y at the Tatmadaw Convention Hall on U Wisara Road today.
The exhibition includes Booths of the Pre-Independence Period, the Post-Independence Period, the Contemporary Period and the Ministries, the computer room and the central showroom.
Displayed at the booth of the Pre-Independence Period were a painting of the Tatmadaw of King Anaukphetlun Maha Dhamma Raza defeating the army of imperialist Portuguese De Brito (Ngazinka), a painting of Hanthawady Palace of King Bayintnaung and a statue of King Bayintnaung.
Today's entertainment programme included a play featuring King Thibaw being taken away by the British colonialists enacted by members of Shwepyitha Township Thabin Asiayon.
Significant scenes from films vitalizing patriotism were screened on the 52-inch TV.
Myanma Writers and Journalists Association, the News and Periodicals Enterprise and Sarpay Beikman Bookshops are selling books at discount rates.
Ten visitors won prizes in memory contests in the computer rooms today.

(9) Myanmar takes part in International Festival
YANGON, 6 Nov - Myanmar Embassy in Pretoria took part in the Fourth International Festival, displaying exhibits on Myanmar's culture and tourism at the celebration sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Africa on 17 October.
Held on the lawns in front of the President's Residence in Pretoria, it was aimed at fostering mutual cultural understanding between the host nation and the international community.
With the assistance of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Cooperatives of Myanmar, the embassy opened a booth there, selling traditional arts and crafts, gold embroidery and traditional food.
Displaying the map of Myanmar and facts about the country and her tourism, the Ambassador and the embassy staff answered questions raised by the visitors and distributed pamphlets on tourism industry.
Participating for the second time, Myanmar presented a girls Thingyan yein dance on the stage at the festival.
Some portions of the proceeds of the sales at the festival were donated for social welfare activities through the festival supervisors.
