(1) Masses of Bhamo region denounce destructive acts of Suu Kyi and NLD & call for action against them
YANGON, 4 Nov - Over 29,000 people from various strata of life from Bhamo region of Kachin State expressed their genuine desire at a mass meeting held at sport grounds of Bhamo Township this morning. Present were members of Kachin National Cultural Troupe, Shan National Cultural Troupe, Medical Association Nurses Association, members of Writers and Journalists Association, Maternal and Child Welfare Association, members of Working Committee for Women's Affairs, rice merchants, edible oil merchants, rice mill owners, molasses and beans entrepreneurs, border trading merchants, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, gold traders, department store owners, printing and recording entrepreneurs, restaurant owners, members of War Veterans Organization, saw mill owners, members of Lawyers Association, Boarding House Owners Association, rattan traders, members of Vehicles Association, Trawlers Association, Trawler-G Association, Slow Moving Vehicles Association, Coach Association, Video Association, Myanmar Traditional Artists and Artisans Asiayon, Myanmar Music Asiayon, Fire Brigade and Red Cross Brigade, shopkeepers and people of Bhamo, Momauk, Mansi and Shwegu Townships.
At the meeting speakers tabled and seconded two motions calling for safeguarding and maintaining economic development and better conditions of food, clothing and shelter needs of the people and maintaining and safeguarding stability of the state which has already been achieved.
Saw mill entrepreneur of Shwegu Township Kachin national U Zaw Hsaing chaired the mass meeting with Shan national U San Hsam of Momauk Township and Dr Tun Lwin of Bhamo Township Medical Association as members of the Panel of Chairmen.
Daw Nang Myo Myo Htwe of Bhamo Township Working Committee for Women's Affairs acted as MC and Daw Rwe Ja Maw of Kachin National Cultural Troupe joint MC at the meeting.

production needed for improving food, clothing and shelter conditions
General Maung Aye looks into regional development agricultural
improvement in Shan State (East)
YANGON, 4 Nov - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye met officials of Shan State (East) and discussed regional and agricultural development yesterday morning at the Triangle Region Command HQ in Kengtung.
Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Deputy Prime Minister Lt-Gen Tin Tun, ministers, senior military officers, local authorities and departmental personnel were present.
Chairman of Shan State (East) Peace and Development Council Commander of Triangle Region Command Maj-Gen Thein Sein reported on organization of districts and townships in Shan State (East), the area of the state, cultivable land, weather conditions, population, paddy cultivation and the project to ensure surplus paddy production in the state which will be implemented till 2001-2002.
Officials also reported on plans to ensure surplus paddy output in the region, to reclaim vacant and virgin lands and to ensure water supply in detail, progress in construction of dams and tree plantation programmes to extend, forest areas.
Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin reported the success of agriculture in the region and the need to use with confidence the methods prescribed by the ministry.
Minister for Commerce Maj-Gen Kyaw Than reported to the meeting on paddy purchase in the region.
General Maung Aye gave suggestions.

(3) Myanmar National Olympic Council meets
YANGON, 4 Nov - The Myanmar National Olympic Council held its coordination meeting at National Indoor Stadium-1 in Thuwunna this afternoon, addressed by Chairman of Myanmar National Olympic Council Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.
Coordination on participation in the 13th Asian Games will be the focus of the meeting, he said.
The government has given priority to the work for encouraging Sports with the assistance of the people and entrepreneurs in accord with the high aim "Myanmar Sports the World to Conquer".
Myanmar sports did not develop as expected due to weakness in implementation sector and in the morale of the athletes although priority has been given to the promotion of the sports and the Ministry of Sports was established to further enhance sports activities, he pointed.
The nation will participate only in sporting events in which the athletes are actually qualified for, he said, adding priority will be given to quality rather than numbers.
Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win explained plans to take part in the Asian Games.
Presidents of Myanmar Weight-lifting Federation, Myanmar Rowing Federation, Myanmar Sepak Takraw Federation, Myanmar Archery Federation and Myanmar Taekwondo Federation reported on preparations, training and the with the zeal to win and officials to raise the ability perseverance, endurance and the spirit of the athletes.
Also present were Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung, senior Tatmadaw officers, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, Director-General Col Hla Myint Kyaw of Sports and Physical Education Department, Adviser to the Ministry of Sports Col Ngo Ciin Pau, Officer on Special Duty Col Thaung Htaik, presidents of various sports federations and officials.

(4) Secretary-l receives Chairman of Daiwa Institute of Research
YANGON, 4 Nov - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Chairman Mr Eiichiro Okumoto and party of Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd of Japan at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 4.30 pm today.
Present on the occasion were Minister at the State Peace and Development Council Chairman's Office Brig-Gen Abel, Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department.

(5) Secretary-1 attends opening of Myanma Motion Picture Museum
YANGON, 4 Nov - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt addressed the opening of the Myanma Motion Picture Museum of Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon on Wingaba Road, Bahan Township, at 8 am today.
Also present on the occasion were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Hotels and Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department, Patrons of Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon, Chairman of Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon U Sein Tin and EC members and guests.
Academy Daw Wa Wa Win Shwe acted as master of ceremonies.
In his opening address, the Secretary-1 said opening of the Myanma Motion Picture Museum portraying efforts of the pioneers, succeeding film artistes and promoters with diligence, courage and innovation, marked a move for documenting Myanmar motion picture history.
He expressed thanks especially to Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and ministers for their constant guidance and support for the emergence of the Asiayon and progress of Myanma motion picture world.
As a result, he said, the museum had emerged
He also thanked well-wishers for donating invaluable historical equipment and cash and rendering services.
He then assured of continued participation of the artistes in nation-building endeavours.
Afterwards, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and Asiayon Patrons U Thu Kha, U Aye Kyu and Vice-Chairman of the Asiayon U Kyaw Pe formally opened the museum.
The Secretary-1 and guests then viewed projectors, Academy awards, documentaries on the motion pictures and the casts, posters and cartoons of the silver, golden, diamond and ruby jubilees.
The museum will remain open to the public on public holidays from 9.30 am to 4 pm.

(6) Secretary-1 coordinates work of renovation for durability of Htidaw of Shwedagon Pagoda
YANGON, 4 Nov - Patron of Permanent Committee for All-round Renovation of the Shwedagon Pagoda Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, arrived at southern stairway of Shwedagon Pagoda at 9 am today.
The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Chairman of Permanent Committee for All-round, Renovation of the Shwedagon Pagoda Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Chairman of the Work Committee Deputy Commander of Yangon Command Col Hsam Hsint, members of the Board of Trustees of the pagoda and officials.
The Secretary-1 met the Myanmar engineers at Pyataikhaung tazaung of the pagoda and discussed maintenance and strengthening of Htidaw (sacred umbrella)of the pagoda.
The engineers reported to the Secretary-1 on the work to be carried out for strengthening of Htidaw, findings in inspection and modern technology to be applied for long-term durability of the Htidaw.
The Secretary-1 gave the necessary instructions.
Then, Secretary-1 and scholars climbed the pagoda, paid obeisance to the Htidaw and inspected the work to be carried out for renovation for the Htidaw.
The Secretary-1 met the engineers at the office of Board of Trustees and coordinated the tasks to be carried out by applying modern technology based on inspection findings of the Htidaw.

(7) National Convention Convening Commission holds coord meeting
YANGON, 4 Nov - The National Convention Convening Commission held its coordination meeting at the meeting hall of NCCC at 2 pm today.
Present were Chairman Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Vice-Chairmen Maj-Gen Sein Htwa and Brig-Gen Pyi Sone and members.
First, Chairman Maj-Gen Saw Lwin delivered an opening address.
Next, National Convention Convening Work Committee and National Convention Convening Management Committee reported the meeting on the national convention matters.
Members of the National Convention Convening Commission took part in the discussions.
Later, the meeting ended with remarks by Chairman Maj-Gen Saw Lwin.

(8) Myanma Airways extends weekly flights
YANGON, 4 Nov - Myanma Airways extends its weekly flights under an open season special arrangement.
MA's F-27 aircraft fly on Mandalay-Lashio-Mandalay route every Sunday and Mandalay-Tachilek-Mandalay route on every Tuesday. MA's F-2P jet aircraft fly Myeik-Kaw Thoung-Myeik route on Sundays and Thursdays.

(9) Trade, economic & business related training for Myanmar senior officials
YANGON, 4 Nov - The Ministry of Commerce and Singapore Trade Development Board co-sponsored the Trade, Economic and Business-related Training Course for Myanmar Senior Officials this morning at the ministry.
Deputy Minister for Commerce Commodore Myo Tint, Ambassador of Singapore Brig-General Patrick Choy Choong Tow and course instructor of STDB Mr Tan Song Chuan made speeches on the occasion.
Deputy Minister for Finance and Revenue Brig-Gen Than Tun, advisers of the Ministry of Commerce, officials and guests were also present.
Forty-two senior officials of nine ministries and Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry are attending the course which continues till 9 November.
