(1) Masses of Kayin State oppose Suu Kyi and NLD group for jeopardizing peace, stability and progress Meeting of 22,000 people calls for repulsing the inside and outside interferences
YANGON, 22 Oct - Over 22,000 people from various strata of life from Kayin State expressed their genuine desire at a mass meeting which was held at Aung Than Lwin Stadium of Kayin State in Hpa-an Township this morning.
The members of Kayin State Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Kayin State Working Committee for Women's Affairs, Kayin State Nurses Association and Nurses Training School, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association of Kayin State and District, Kayin National Literature and Culture Association, Mon and Pa-O Literature and Culture Association, Writers and Journalists Association, Artists and Artisan Asiayon, Phado Aung San and members, War Veterans Organization, representative of Kayin State Merchants Association, members of Red Cross Society and Auxiliary Fire Brigade and people of Hpa-an, Kawkareik, Hlinebwe, Myawady and Papun (Kamamaung) Townships were present.
At the meeting speakers tabled and seconded two motions calling for safeguarding and maintaining economic development and better conditions of food, clothing and shelter needs of the people and maintaining and safeguarding stability of the state which has already been achieved.
Agricultural and livestock farm entrepreneur U Saw San Po Thin chaired it with member of Kyain State Merchants Association U Tun Khin and member of Kyain State Pa-O Literature and culture Association U Khun Win Naung as members of the Panel of Chairmen.

(2) Secretary-1 receives Minister of Education of Brunei Darussalam
YANGON, 22 Oct - President of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Council (SEAMEC) of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Minister of Education of Brunei Darussalam Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Haji Abdul Aziz Umar paid a courtesy call on Secretary- 1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 4 pm today.
Present at the call were Minister for Foreign Affairs U Ohn Gyaw, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Khin Maung Win and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department.
The visiting Minister of Education was accompanied by Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam Mr Pengian Dato Paduka Haji Amalee bin Ahmad.

(3) Seinbudaw, Hngetmyatnadaw and Shwehtidaw for Tachilek Shwedagon Pagoda
YANGON, 22 Oct - Officials of the Office of Strategic Studies and Office of Director of Defence Services Intelligence conveyed the Seinbudaw, Hngetmyatnadaw and Shwehtidaw (Sacred Umbrella) from Yangon to Tachilek by air this morning.
The Seinbudaw, Hngetmyatnadaw and Shwehtidaw (Sacred Umbrella) will be hoisted at Shwedagon Pagoda in Tachilek Shan State (East).
They were welcomed at Tachilek airport by Naga Hnatkaung Kyaungtaik Sayadaw State Working Committee of Sangha Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Dhammasiri and members of the Sangha, Basic Tactical Operations Commander (Mongping), officers of Tachilek Station, chairmen and members of Tachilek District and Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental officials Religious Association, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross Society and Auxiliary Fire Brigade and people totaling 3,000.
Htidaw hoisting ceremony will be held on 1 November 1998.

(4) K 150,000 for Ma Soe Soe Myar
YANGON, 22 Oct - A ceremony to present K 150,000 to Myanmar selected Taekwondo athlete Ma Soe Soe Myar, who won gold medal in the Second World Youth Taekwondo Championship in the Republic of Korea, by Truck Car Hyundai Company was held at Aung San Stadium this morning.
It was attended by Director-General Col Hla Myint Kyaw of Sports and Physical Education Department and officials, President of Myanmar Taekwondo Federation U Htay Myint (Yuzana Construction Company) and executives, well-wisher Mr Y.S. Yoong of Truck Car Hyundai Company, officials and Ma Soe Soe Myar.

YANGON, 22 Oct - President of Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Council (SEAMEC) of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Minister of Education of Brunei Darussalam Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Haji Abdul Aziz Umar, currently here at the invitation of Minister for Education U Than Aung, and Directors of SEAMEO Regional Centres visited Yangon University and Dagon University this morning.
The minister and party met officials of various ministries at Myanma Timber Trade Centre of Myanma Timber Enterprise.
They discussed bilateral cooperation in education sector.

YANGON, 22 Oct - The Organizing Committee for 54th Armed Forces Day Commemorative Literary and Arts Competitions held a coordination meeting at Defence Services Museum on Shwedagon Pagoda Road this afternoon.
Present on the occasion were Chairman of the Committee Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Chairman of Work Committee for 54th Armed Forces Day Commemorative Literary and Photo Contest Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, Chairman of Exhibition, Accommodation and Reception Committee Vice-Quartermaster-General Brig-Gen Kyaw Win, Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint, senior military officers, chairmen and secretaries of the various committees and officials.

(9) Mid-year Myanma Gems Emporium gets US$ 4.2 m
YANGON, 22 Oct - Midyear Myanma Gems Emporium continued for the final day at Myanma Gems Emporium Hall on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road this morning.
A total of 54 pearl lots valued at US $ 449,791 were sold under the tender system and competitive bidding system today.
Gems, jade and pearl lots, jewellery, pearls and jade figurines worth US $ 4,285,696 were sold under tender system and competitive bidding system at the Mid-year Gems Emporium from 19 to 22 October.

(10) Ninth Asian Clubs Soccer Championship live on TV
YANGON, 22 Oct - The match of Ninth Asian Clubs Soccer Championship between Yangon City Development Committee team and Sarawak FC of Malaysia will be telecast live on Myanma Radio and TV on 24 October.
The teams will meet at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna beginning 3.30 pm.
