YANGON, 20 Oct - Over 25,000 people from various strata of life from Rakhine State expressed their genuine desire at a mass meeting which was held at Danyawady Sports Ground in Sittway this morning.
Members of Rakhine State Maternal and Child Welfare Association, Red Cross Brigade, Union Solidarity and Development Association, Auxiliary Fire Brigade, Nurses Association,
Rakhine State Medical Association, Rakhine State Working Committee for Women's Affairs, Rakhine State Women's Sports Federation, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rakhine State Writers and Journalists Association, Video Association, Trawler Owners Association, Rakhine National Literature and Culture Association, Lawyers Association, Slow Moving Vehicles Association, All Bus Lines Control Committee, Boarding House Owners Association, shop keepers and people of Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, MraukU, Pauktaw, Rathedaung and Minbya Townships were present.
At the meeting speakers tabled and seconded two motions calling for safeguarding and maintaining economic development and better conditions of food, clothing and shelter needs of the people and maintaining and safeguarding stability of the State which has already been achieved.
Representative of the masses U Shwe Tha, Chairman of Border Trade Merchants Association, Maungtaw Township, chaired it with Chairman of All Bus Lines Control Committee of Kyaukphyu U Tin Hla and industrialist of Sittway Township U Shwe Ba Thein as members of the Panel of Chairmen.
Executive of Rakhine State MCWA Daw Soe Su San was emcee and member of Rakhine State Sports Committee Daw Saw Shwe Pu joint-emcee.

(2) Dinner hosted in honour of master artistes & judges of Performing Arts Competitions
YANGON, 20 Oct - Certificates of honour were presented to artistes and judges who assisted in the Sixth Myanma Traditional Cultural Performing Arts Competitions at a dinner hosted in their honour at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Street at 5.30 pm today. Patron of the Competitions Organizing Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt delivered an address and presented the certificates to the artistes.

(3) Entrepreneurs to engage in agriculture work on 15,000 acres of wetlands in Taikkyi Township
YANGON, 20 Oct - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo visited the reclamation of vacant and virgin land in Ainkalaung Island in the wetlands, of Taikkyi in Yangon Division today. It is one of the three islands the other two being Bawlai and Tetthit Islands.
The Secretary-2 was accompanied by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin, Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Vice-Chairman of the Yangon City Development Committee Vice Mayor Col Maung Pa, Officer on Special Duty at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint and personnel of construction firms and private organizations.
They flew out by helicopter and arrived there at 9 am. They were welcomed by officiating Tactical Operations Commander Lt-Col Than Win and officials.

(4) MMCWA opens Tailoring, Cookery Courses
YANGON, 20 Oct - A ceremony to open Tailoring Course No 2/98 and Cookery Course 1/98, sponsored by Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association, was held at MMCWA Office at the corner of Thanthuma Road and Parami Road in South Okkalapa Township this morning.
Present were patrons of MMCWA, Chairperson Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe, Vice-Chairperson Dr Khin Win Shwe, Patron of Supervisory Committee for Yangon Division MCWA Daw Marlar Tint, executives, instructors and trainees.
Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe spoke on the occasion.
Then, Professor Daw Kyu Kyu Swe and Dr Khin Win Shwe cordially greeted the trainees.
Thirty trainees are attending the Tailoring Course 2/98 and 14 the Cookery Course. Each course will last two weeks.

(5) Good foundations for modern, developed nation can be laid down if annual targets are exceeded
YANGON, 20 Oct - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo and party attended the meeting to coordinate all-round production progress including agriculture held in the Town Hall, Magway, on 18 October.
The Secretary-2 delivered an address.
Chairman of Magway Division Peace and Development Council Col Thein Zaw explained monsoon crop yield in the division and winter crop cultivation plans.
Heads of division officers of Myanma Agriculture Service, Settlements and Land Records Department, Irrigation Department and Water Resources Utilization Department presented implementations sector-wise.

YANGON, 20 Oct - Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin received Directors of Myanmar Hotels International Co Ltd (MHI) Mr Kenneth Gew, Mr Kendall Oei and Mr Sukhdeep Singh at his office at 11 am today.
Present were Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Director-General U Khin Maung Latt of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, Managing Director U Kyi Tun of Myanma Hotels and Tourism Services and officials of departments concerned.

(7) Bidding jade sales fetch over $ 900,000
YANGON, 20 Oct - The second day of the Mid-year Gems Emporium continued at Myanma Gems Emporium on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road from 9 am to 4 pm today.
A total of 31 jade lots valued at US $ 919,738 were sold under bidding system.
Jewellery and jade figurines worth $ 200,386 were also sold today.
Auction and bidding sales of jade lots continues tomorrow.

(9) Special Course No 5 on Financial Rules opens
YANGON, 20 Oct - The Development Affairs Department under the Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs opened Special Course No 5 on Financial Rules at the training school of the DAD in Ward-51, Dagon Myothit (North) Township, this morning.
Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye and Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development 2 Affairs Col Thein Nyunt addressed the opening ceremony.
The course is jointly conducted by the Office of the Auditor-General and the Ministry for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs.
Sixty employees from township development affairs departments attend the course, which will last four weeks.

(10) Deputy Prime Ministers inspect Mid-Year Gems Emporium
YANGON, 20 Oct - Deputy Prime Ministers Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin and Lt-Gen Tin Tun inspected Mid-Year Gems Emporium in the Gems Emporium Hall on Kaba Aye Road this morning.
They were welcomed there by Patron of Myanma Gems Emporium Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn Myint, Chairman of Myanma Gems Emporium Central Committee Deputy Minister for Mines U Myint Thein, Secretary Managing Director of Myanma Gems Enterprise U Khin Oo and members of the central committee.
The deputy prime ministers toured the Gems Mart.
They then inspected the auction sale of jade lots.
