(1)   Secretary-l, ministers attend to regional development in Taninthayi Division

YANGON, 18 Oct - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt yesterday morning left here for Myeik in Taninthayi Division and arrived there at 9.20 am.

He was accompanied by Minister for Mines Brig-Gen Ohn-Myint, Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Minister for Education U Than Aung, Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Brig-Gen Zaw Tun, Deputy Minister for Commerce Commodore Myo Tint, Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Deputy Minister for Construction U Tint Swe, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, heads of department and officials.

The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Taninthayi Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Coastal Region Command Maj-Gen Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung, Commander of Taninthayi Naval Region Command Commodore Soe Myint, military and civil officials and members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigade.

The Secretary-1 and party proceeded to the Coastal Region Command where they were greeted by families.

In the meeting hall of the command later, Commander Maj-Gen Thura Thiha Thura Sit Maung reported on completion of tar road, gravel road and earth road of the 457-mile-and four-furlong Dawei-Myeik-Kawthoung Union Highway, 38-mile Bok-Kyaynandaing Road, and 74-mile Taninthayi-Thebyu-Mawtaung Road section, progress of work of large, medium and small bridges under construction including those covered by the projects and requirements, production and sale of minerals in the division, cultivation of rubber, production and sale of the produce. The ministers, deputy ministers and department heads gave supplementary reports. The Secretary-1 gave counsel on them.

In the Pale Yadana Hall in Myeik later, the Secretary-1 met members of District/Township Peace and Development Councils in Myeik District, departmental personnel and members of social organizations and discussed regional development including cultivation of crops and boosting the yield of crops.

Chairman of Myeik District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Htay and Chairman of Kawthoung District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Wan Maung reported on construction projects, agriculture, fisheries, education, transport and communications and rubber cultivation, production and sale in the respective districts. Director of Border Trade Department Lt-Col Saw Hla Tun reported on border trade.

Afterwards, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt called for extended cultivation of chilli, onion, beans and pulses, oil palm and so on in addition to paddy and rubber, efforts to achieve rice self-sufficiency in the region, engaging in fisheries business systematically and promoting tourism industry. He then delivered an address.

(2)   Families of Defence Services, well-wishers donate dry rations, cash to Wailuwun Kyaungtaik, Dhammazedi Shwekyin Sarthintaik

YANGON, 18 Oct - Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated dry rations and cash for Soon Padethabin to Wailuwun Kyaungtaik on Wailuwun South Ward in Sangyoung Township this morning.

Present were Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Director of Medical Services Brig-Gen Mya Thein Han, OSD at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint, member of Yangon City Development Committee U Aung Soe, Acting Managing Director of Myanma Salt and Marine Chemical Enterprise U Saw Win, Deputy Director-General of General Administration Department U Maung Win, member of Yangon City Division Peace and Development Council Yangon Division Commissioner U Kan Myint, Chairman of Yangon West District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein, officials and well-wishers.

Wailuwun Kyaungtaik Padana Nayaka Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Indavamsa Bhivamsa administered the Five Precepts.

(3)   A total of 360,000 acres to be placed under beans and pulses in Yangon Division Over 50,000 acres of cultivation to be extended this year

YANGON, 18 Oct - Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than this morning formally unveiled the billboard on extending of beans and pulses cultivation zone at Dallakyun area in Yangon South District, exhorted the farmers at the meeting on extending of beans and pulses cultivation, attended the monsoon paddy harvesting, threshing and selling ceremony for 199899 in Twantay Township and gave instructions on cultivation of cold season crops on the fields, where paddy harvesting has already been done.

Accompanied by Managing Director of Myanma Agriculture Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation U Tun Than, Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint, Chairman of Yangon South District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Sein and division level departmental officials, the commander arrived at Dalla by boat.

On their arrival, they were welcomed by members of Yangon South District Peace and Development Council, Secretary of District Union Solidarity and Development Association U Aung Myint and executive committee members, Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council U Kyaw Shwe and officials.

Then, the commander and party attended the ceremony to put up the billboard on extending of beans and pulses cultivation zone at Dallakyun area at the corner of Dalla-Twantay Road and Yazathingyan Road near the jetty of Dalla Township.

Also present were local farmers and members of USDA, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigade totaling over 500.

(4)   339 gem merchants arrive for Emporium

YANGON, 18 Oct - Altogether 221 gem merchants from 133 companies of 13 countries and 118 gem merchants of 55 local companies arrived here today.

They inspected display of Mid-year Myanma Gems Emporium from 9 am to 5 pm.

Secretary of Myanma Gems Emporium Central Committee Managing Director of Myanma Gems Enterprise U Khin Oo and officials conducted them round the emporium.

Jade lots will be sold from 9 am to 5 pm tomorrow under tender system and competitive bidding.

YANGON, 18 Oct - Closing and prize distribution of the Sixth Myanma Traditional Performing Arts Competitions to be held at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road will be telecast live on TV Myanmar programme starting at 12.50 pm on 19 October.

(6)   Yangon Command wins Defence Services C-in-C's Trophy

YANGON, 18 Oct - Yangon Command beat North-West Command 2-1 at the final of the 14th Defence Services Commander-in-Chief's Trophy under-21 Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Soccer Tournament at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna this evening.

On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Adjutant-General Lt-Gen Win Myint presented championship trophy to Yangon Command team.

Vice Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Chairman of Tatmadaw Soccer Committee Col Sein Tin Win and Commander of Ayeyawady Naval Region Command Headquarters Commodore Khin Aung presented second and third prizes to NW Command and No 11 LID teams and Best Player Awards to respective players and cleanest award to No 11 LID team.

(7)   Mayor inspects disease control project in Mingala Taungnyunt

YANGON, 18 Oct - Member of Myanmar National Health Committee Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay inspected the disease control project being carried out in Lutlatyay Ward and Thapyaygon Ward in Mingala Taungnyunt Township this morning.

He was accompanied by Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Secretary of YCDC Col Myint Aung, Acting Director-General of Health Department Dr Wan Maung, Head of Yangon Division Health Department Dr Tin Maung Win and officials, Head of YCDC Health Department Dr Naing Tin San, Head of Pollution Control and Sanitation Department U Zaw Win and officials.

(8)   Contestants of Sixth Myanma Traditional Performing Arts Competitions visit Shwedagon Pagoda, MRTV

YANGON, 18 Oct - Managers and contestants who participated in Sixth Myanma Traditional Per forming Arts Competitions from States/Divisions led by Vice-Chairman of Accommodation Committee Commandant of No 1 Transit Centre Lt-Col Tin Kyaing visited the Shwedagon Pagoda this morning under the programme of their sightseeing tour in Yangon.

They also visited Defence Services Historical Museum, Myanma Radio and Television and Yangon Zoological Gardens.

(9)   Depavali festival to be held

YANGON, 18 Oct - Depavali festival sponsored by All Myanmar Hindu Religious Central Association will be held at the National Theatre on Myoma Kyaung Road at 3.30 pm on 25 October.

General Secretary of All Myanmar Hindu Religious Central Association U Thein Tun will give a radio talk on Depavali on the morning Myanmar-language programme of Radio Myanmar on 19 October.

(10)  Secretary Course and Computer Course conclude

YANGON, 18 Oct - A ceremony to mark the end of Secretary Course and Computer Course of Soft Guide Computer Centre was held at International Business Centre on Pyay Road this afternoon, attended by Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye.

Managing Director of Soft Guide Computer Centre U Aung Than Nyunt spoke on the occasion.

On behalf of the trainees, one of them spoke to thanked the officials.

Deputy Minister U Kyaw Aye, Deputy Director-General of Multi-party Democracy General Election Commission Office U Tun Tin and U Aung Than Nyunt presented prizes and certificates to outstanding trainees and 200 trainees.
