(1)   Masses of Kayah State denounce NLD moves to jeopardize peace, stability and progress Call for action against Bogadaw and group perpetrating destructive acts

YANGON, 17 Oct - Over 18,000 people from various strata of life from Kayah State expressed their genuine desire at a mass meeting which was held on Kandahaywun Square in Loikaw Township this morning.

Present were Kayah State Peace Negotiators Group, Kayah State Maternal, and Child Welfare Association, Kayah State Working Committee for Women's Affairs, members of Kayah State Union Solidarity and Development Association, Kayah national cultural troupe, Kayah State Women's Sports Federation, Kayah State Medical Association, Lawyers Association, Merchants Association, Writers and Journalists Association, Video Association, Thabin Asiayon, Traditional Artists and Artisans Asiayon, Kayah State Nurses Association, Saw Millers Association, Rice Millers Association, Edible Oil Dealers Association, All Bus Lines Control Committee, Industrialists Association, Red Cross Society, Auxiliary Fire Brigade, representatives of Social and Economic Associations and people of Loikaw District and Loikaw Township.

(2)   Families of Tatmadaw, well-wishers donate dry rations, edible oil to Sarthintaik, Muslim Home for the Aged

YANGON, 17 Oct - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of. Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo attended the ceremony to offer dry rations and 'soon' Padethabins to Aungyadana Winyaw Pariyatti Sarthintaik on Bayintnaung Road in Ward 2, Hline Township, merit-sharing ceremony for Aungzabu two-storey building and Aungmingala Soonsarhsaung built and donated by Dagon International Ltd this morning.

Present were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, senior military officers, Vice-Mayor of Yangon City Col Maung Pa, OSD at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint, officials and well-wishers.

Padana Nayaka Sayadaw Bhaddanta Janaka administered the Five Precepts.

(3)   Secretary-2 inspects preparations of Kyaikkasan Super One Shopping Centre

YANGON, 17 Oct - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo this afternoon inspected preparations for opening Kyaikkasan Super One Shopping Centre and gave instructions to officials.

Accompanied by Officer on Special Duty at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint and officials, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo arrived at Kyaikkasan Super One Shopping Centre at the corner of Kyaikkasan Street and Laydaunkkan Street on Ward 65 in Tamway Township.

Managing Director of Super One Shopping Centre Daw San San Yi and officials briefed the Secretary-2 on arrangements for opening of Super One Shopping Centre, sales rooms and computer rooms at the shopping centre.

The Secretary-2 gave instructions to officials and inspected it.

Kyaikkasan Super One Shopping Centre includes food items on the ground floor, garments on the first floor, cosmetics and beauty parlor on the second floor, sports equipment shop on the third floor, TV games and children's IQ test hall on the fourth floor with the restaurant and shop on frontage of the shopping centre.

The Super One Shopping Centre will be open in the first week of November 1998.

(4)   277 gem merchants arrive

YANGON, 17 Oct-Altogether 171 gem merchants of 107 companies from ten countries and 106 national gem merchants of 48 local companies arrived here today.

They inspected the Midyear Myanma Gems Emporium from 9 am to 5 pm.

The gems merchants will inspect the lots shown at Mid-year Myanma Gems Emporium tomorrow.

(5)   Minister for Construction tours Sagaing Division, Kachin State

YANGON, 17 Oct - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun inspected the conditions of Shwebo-Myitkyina Union Road at Shwebo on 14 October.

He inspected maintenance of the road and bridges, and Bridge No 4/37 Khatthin Bridge and No 7/9 Hsinlin Bridge which needed immediate repair.

He left instructions on building of two-lane bridges.

He proceeded to Taungbon junction where he inspected maintenance work of Hsingon-Wuntho-Pintebu Road, and conditions of Wuntho-Kawlin Road and Kawlin-Hsingon Road.

Yesterday, he arrived at Meza Bailey Suspension Bridge on Shwebo-Myitkyina Road and inspected maintenance of the bridge, the site designated for construction of a new bridge near the suspension bridge.

He gave suggestions to the officials on building of a new two-lane bridge, ground test, selection of approach roads and bridge designing.

He next proceeded to Nantsiaung Bridge on the border of Sagaing Division and Kachin State where he was welcomed by Kachin State Superintending Engineer U Tun Tin and other officials.

The minister later inspected Hopin Section of Shwebo-Myitkyina Road and left instructions on maintenance work.

(6)   Minister for Industry-l inspects factories in Mon State

YANGON, 17 Oct - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, accompanied by Managing Director of Myanma Foodstuff Industries U Kyaw Myint, Managing Director of Myanma Ceramic Industries U Than Shwe and officials, arrived at Mawlamyine Marble Slab Factory on 16 October morning.

The minister and party inspected production process of the factory and met officials.

Minister U Aung Thaung and- party proceeded to Ceramics Factory at the corner of Gantgaw Street and Kyauktan Street in Mupon Ward, Mawlamyine. The minister inspected personal and industrial use ceramics and electrical ones.

The minister oversaw testing of production of 33 KV porcelain insulators, personal goods and ceramics used in electronic, communications and industries.

At Mawlamyine Soft Drink and Ice Factory, the minister inspected the process of production and fulfilled the requirement of the factory.

The minister and party met service personnel at Mon State Regional Industrial Coordination and Industrial Inspection Department.

On 17 October, the minister inspected newsprint production, installation of 6 megawatt turbine at the steam power plant and caustic soda and pulp production of No 1 Paper Mill in Sittaung.

Later, the minister met factory manager and staff at the briefing hall for discussions on the work there.

(7)   Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs tours Mon State

YANGON, 17 Oct - Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin, accompanied by Deputy Commander of South-East Command Col Myo Hla, Managing Director of Myanma Posts and Telecommunications Col Maung Maung Tin and officials arrived at Mawlamyine on 14 October.

The minister and party inspected installation of digital auto telephone exchange, post office, telegraphs and telephone exchange office for the development of the region and gave instructions.

The next day morning, the minister also inspected post office, telegraph and telephone exchange office in Kyaikmayaw Township.

He also inspected post office, telegraph, telephone exchange office and completion on construction of Mudon auto exchange office in Mudon Township in the afternoon.

The minister attended to their needs.

(8)   Myanmar Computer Entrepreneurs Association and Myanmar Computer Technicians Association meet

YANGON, 17 Oct - Members of the Myanmar Computer Entrepreneurs Association and the Myanmar Computer Technicians Association met at International Business Centre on Pyay Road this morning.

Secretary of Myanmar Computer Science Development Council Deputy Minister for Science and Technology U Hlaing Win, Director-General of Education Planning and Training Department U Bo Win, Rector of Yangon Institute of Computer Science and Technology Dr Kyaw Thein, chairmen and executives of Myanmar Computer Federation, Myanmar Computer Entrepreneurs Association and Myanmar Computer Technicians Association and guests were present.

Secretary of MCSDC Deputy Minister for Science and Technology U Hlaing Win and the Chairman of Myanmar Computer Federation retired rector of Yangon ICST Dr Tin Maung spoke on the occasion.

Chairman of MCTA U Thein Oo of ACE Data Systems and Chairman of MCEA U Tin Win Aung of MCC briefed the meeting on their respective tasks to be carried out.

U Aung Zaw Myint (Winner) of MCTA and U Myint Thu (Computer Journal) of MCEA briefed the meeting on membership scrutinization tasks.

Members of the associations took part in the discussions.

(9)   Radio, TV live coverage of final match between N-W Command & Yangon Command

YANGON, 17 Oct - No 11 Light Infantry Division stood third place of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services' Shield Under-21 Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) Soccer Championship at Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna this evening.

No 11 LID beat Tatmadaw (Air) 9-1.

North-West Command team meets Yangon Command team in final match on 18 October.

Myanma Radio and Myanma TV will cover the final match between the North-West Command and Yangon Command at the Thuwunna Youth Training Centre on 18 October.

Radio and TV live coverage will begin at 3.20 pm.

(10)  Myanmar delegation leaves for Japan

YANGON, 17 Oct - With the aim of promoting mutual cooperation in business enterprise between Japan and Myanmar entrepreneurs and exporting Myanmar products to Japan, a 35-member Myanmar delegation left for Japan by air today to attend the Global Business Opportunity Convention 1998 (GBOC 98) in Osaka from 19 to 21 October under the sponsorship of Osaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Union of Myanmar Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

Joint-leader member of Executive Committee of UMCCI U Kyaw Thane, EC members of UMCCI Chairman of Myanmar Rice Millers Association U Win Myint and U Saw Hlaing led the Myanmar entrepreneurs delegation. Leader of the delegation CEC of UMCCI U Hla Myint left for Osaka on 14 October.

They were seen off at Yangon International Airport by President of UMCCI U Khin Maung Yi and CEC members.
