(3) Patriotism Vitalization Exhibition to be held for people to participate with patriotism, nationalist fervour in government's endeavours NLD intentionally trying to hamper nation's good economic foundations, peace, stability

YANGON, 28 Sept - A meeting was held this afternoon at the Ministry of Defence to coordinate organizing of Patriotism Vitalization Exhibition addressed by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Patriotism vitalization exhibitions have been held on significant days and on golden and diamond jubilee ceremonies, he recalled, saying a patriotism vitalization exhibition will be organized on a grand scale as it is required at present.

Myanmar had lived under servitude for more than 100 years, he recalled, adding it can be seen in history that colonialists had vied for enslaving Myanmar.

Myanmar fell under serfdom resulting from disintegration of national unity due to colonialists' attempts to interfere in and manipulate the nation's palace affairs, he recounted.

The need to vitalize people's patriotism is of great importance as there are now alien interferences and disturbances in the nation to enslave her again, he warned, saying for this reason, arrangements are being made to organize the Patriotism Vitalization Exhibition based on firm historical evidence, which we have already collected.

Hurting national peace and stability, National League for Democracy's unlawful acts have become visible as attempts to destroy the already achieved peace and unity, he noted.

NLD, he said, is intentionally trying to hamper the good economic foundations achieved through endeavours of the State and the people and economic development of entrepreneurs.

No government or nation will tolerate the situation which will lead to destruction of stability and law and order and eruption of anarchy and disturbances in the country, which has already maintained peace and stability, he declared.

However, the government's efforts in a gentle way to save people from facing unnecessary danger and panic should be understood, he reminded.

The government, he noted, will deter all attempts to destroy national unity and peace, good economic foundations, that have already been achieved, and peace and stability of the State.

Organizing of the Patriotism Vitalization Exhibition has been arranged for the people to participate with patriotism and nationalist fervour in the government's endeavours to safeguard them, he declared, inviting discussions for the exhibition to become grand and interesting.

Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, deputy ministers, senior military officers, historians, officials and chairmen and members of Myanmar Thabin Asiayon, Myanmar Music Asiayon, Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon and Myanmar Writers and Journalists Asiayon discussed successful holding of the exhibition on a grand scale.

The Secretary-1 gave suggestions, saying discussions presented at the meeting focused on successful holding of the exhibition to accelerate vitalization of youths' patriotism in accord with the time.

Coordination should be made for preparatory measures, he pointed out.

The exhibition will focus on youths and students, he noted, stressing the need to organize it in line with the objectives.

Member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Deputy Minister for Education Dr Than Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Health Dr Mya Oo, Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, heads of department and guests were also present.

(7) Attitude of the nationalities peace groups

There have been reports that the majority of the public is worried about the danger of deteriorating peace and of regional stability and peace being undermined after spreading of news that the four groups which had made peace with the government supported the National League for Democracy's call for convening of the Hluttaw.  Hence, declarations of the peace groups will be made public to be able to vividly learn the situation between the peace groups and National League for Democracy and the true attitude of the peace groups.  Today, a translation of the declaration of the Kayan National Defence Guards (KNG) of Kayah State Special Region 1 issued on 19-9-98 is stated as follows:

Declaration on the attitude of the Kayan National Defence Guards in connection with the acts of the National League for Democracy

1. After the regaining of independence in Myanmar Naing-Ngan, national unity got disrupted due to instigations and stirring of some corrupt politicians. As armed engagements flared up among national brethren the nation and national races were subject to the ill effects.  Attempts were made for many years to rebuild national unity but to no avail.  During the time of the Tatmadaw Government there was magnanimity on its part and as a result it has been able to make peace with nationalities armed groups. Within a few years after restoring peace there is clear evidence that progress has been made in all aspects throughout the nation in social, economic, health and education fields.

2. At a time when the Government and peace groups are expediting; regional development projects in the respective regions the NLD is reported to be planning to call a Hluttaw.  The acts of that party is about to hinder the pace of border area development projects and undermine stability and peace in the country.  The dedications and the acts of NLD could sow discord among nationalities groups and create misunderstanding between the groups and the Tatmadaw Government and finally undermining peace.  Since they are bound to create unfavourable conditions in the country our organization will not in any way support the acts of NLD.

3. Kayan National Defence Guards (KNG) (Kayan region progressive group) took up arms against government while it was under the New Kayan State Party but there was no military or political achievement.  There was internal strife only.  Local people were in abject misery and peace was non-existent.  As the Government paved the way, our group took the opportunity and separated ourselves from the New Kayan State Party.  Progress has then been made practically after working together with the government in regional development projects.  The Tatmadaw Government has rebuilt national unity and is heading for a discipline-flourishing democracy.  Believing that the Government is following the right path our group declares that it will continue to work together only with the Tatmadaw Government.
