(1)   Over K 760,000, 3,653 bags of rice donated to Pyaytaungdan Tawya monasteries

YANGON, 20 Sept - The 17th ceremony to donate cash and bags of-rice sponsored by the Rice Offering Association for Pyaytaungdan Tawya Monasteries was held at Thirikhitta Thirindhara Sasana Beikman in Pyay, Bago Division, this afternoon, attended by Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Wellwisher associations, service personnel and devotecs donated K 765,354 and 3,653 bags of rice at the ceremony.

Present were the State Ovadacariya Sayadaws, member Sayadaws of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, member Sayadaws of the State Central Working Committee of the Sangha, members of the Divisioa Working Cwittee of the Sangha, Patror. Sayadaws of the Rice Offering Association, eminent Sayadaws, member Sayadaws of the Township Working Committee of the Sangha, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen Tin Aye, ministers, the Yangon Mayor, deputy ministers, the Chief of Staff (Navy), the Chief of Staff (Air) departmental heads, Commande-in-Chief of the Infantry Division Col Aung Min, members of the Division, District and Township Peace and Development Councils, division, district and township departmental personnel, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, members of the Rice Offering Association, wellwishers and guests.

(2)   Full cultivation of crops, boosting production in Pyay and Thayawady Districts discussed

YANGON, 20 Sept - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt met heads of departments and officials at Khittaya Yadana City Hall in Pyay this morning and discussed full cultivation of crops and boosting production of crops in townships in Pyay and Thayawady Districts.

Present were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen Tin Aye and members of supervisory committee for full cultivation of crops and boosting production.

Chairman of Pyay District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Khin Win and Chairman of Thayawady District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Ohn Myint reported on measures undertaken for full cultivation of paddy, sugarcane and beans and pulses in the respective districts.

Officials also reported on maintenance of dams and reservoirs for irrigation, more production of crops, extended arable land and water resources.  Brig-Gen Tin Aye took part in the discussions.

The Secretary-1 said he came to provide assistance for progress of agriculture sector in Bago Division and endeavours are being made to bring about economic system based on agriculture as Myanmar is an agro-based country.

He said efforts are being made for stability of the State, peace and tranquillity of the people while handling the hindrances with gentleness.

The Secretary-1 spoke at length on current political situation, confrontation by destructive elements and lawless acts of those relying on external elements.

He called for participation in efforts in harmony for stability of the State, maintenance of law and order, national solidarity and peace with the leadership of the government.

YANGON, 20 Sept - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt- Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, Of inister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Information Maj-Gen Kyi Aung, Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung, Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung, Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, Deputy Minister for Electric Power BrigGen Maung Maung, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Chief of Staff (Air) Col Myint Swe, officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, heads of department and officials, left here by Tatmadaw flight at 8:30 am today for Pyay Township in Bago Division.

They were welcomed at Pyay Airport by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Commander Brig-Gen Tin Aye, Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, Commander of No 66 Light Infantry Division Col Aung Min, members of the Division, District and Township Peace and Development Councils, departmental officials, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association and officials.

The Secretary-1 and party went to Shwebontha Muni Hsutaungpyi Pagoda in Padaung Township in Pyay District where they were welcomed by members of the District, Township and Ward Peace and Development Councils, departmental, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Auxiliary Fire Brigade, Red Cross Brigade, members of the Board of Trustees and officials.

(4)   Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air), wellwishers donated dry rations alms to Panyatti Sarthintaiks in Insein Township

YANGON, 20 Sept - Families of Defence Services (Army, Navy and Air) and wellwishers donated dry rations and alms to 502 Sayadaws and members of the Sangha of seven Pariyatti Sarthintaiks in Insein Township in Yangon North District today, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

The Pariyatti Sarthintaiks were Yadana Bawdi, Malaryama, WaU, Zaygon, Byugon Tawya, PhaungdawU and Arthawkayon Shwekyin in Insein Town ship.

The dry rations and alms donation ceremonies held at Yadana Bawdi Kyaungtaik on Ywama East Ward and at Zaygon Pariyatti Sarthintaik on Zaygon West Ward in Insein Township were also attended by member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Ministers at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung and Maj-Gen Tin Ngwe, senior military officers, Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee ViceMayor Col Maung Pa, OSD to Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint and departmental officials, wellwishers and members of religious associations.

At the Yadana Bawdi Kyaungtaik, Lt-Gen Tin Oo and officials presented offertories to Padana Nayaka Sayadaws and members of the Sangha after receiving the Five Precepts from Padana Nayaka Sayad, Bhaddanta Pandita Malaryama Pariya Sarthintaik.

(5)   Yankin Township USDA Executives management multiplier course No 3 concludes

YANGON, 20 Sept - Management multiplier course No 3 for executives of Yankin Township Union Solidarity and Development Association concluded at Township USDA office this moming.

CEC member of USDA Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister U Than Shwe spoke on the occasion. U Than Shwe presented certificates of honour to U Aung Naing Htay, proprietor of Sunmoon transport service for donation of K 150,000 for purchase of a satellite receiver and Daw Khin Si Si of Shwepadone shoe shop who served refreshments during the course.

EC member U Min Thein of Yangon Division USDA, Secretary U Tin Hlaing of Yangon East District USDA and Chairman U Kyaw Swa of Township Peace and Development Council presented prizes and certificates to outstanding trainees.

(6)   Chairman of AMFA of France calls on Minister for Health

YANOON, 20 Sept - Chairman Professor Dr Alain Patel of Pranco-Asian Medical Association (AMPA) of Jean-Michel Bader called on Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein at his office this afternoon.

Also present were Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo and officials of the ministry.

(7)   Mandalay International Airport construction making good progress

YANGON, 20 Sept - Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Director General of Department of Civil Aviation U Win Maung, Deputy Director General of Transport Department Lt-Col Nyan Tun Aung and officials arrived in Mandalay this morning.

The minister and party were welcomed by Deputy Commander of Central Command Col Nay Win and officials.  The minister and Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint went to the site for construction of Mandalay Internationa1 Airport where Superintending Engineer U Boon Kyi reported on progress of work, taxiway and earth work, Senior Engineer U Aung Ngwe of Public Works on roads and bridges and construction of six-lane highway to the airport, Project Director U Ohn Myint on airport terminal, construction of basement, control tower, fuel tanks and water and power supply and Tanpawady U Win Maung on Myanmar artistic work.

The minister gave instructions on supervision, planting of trees on both sides of the highway, installation of airfield lighting and cooperation.

The minister and party inspected construction of runway and terminal and Myanmar artistic work.

The minister inspected Yadanabon Shipyards of Inland Water Transport.  He also inspected apron and passenger lounges in Chanmyathazi Airport and proparation for placement of Customs Department and Immigration Department for external flights.

(8)   Formation of ASEAN Myanmar Fisheries Oganization

YANGON, 20 Sept - A coordination meeting on formation of ASEAN Myanmar Fisheries Organization of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries was held at Fisheries Dcpartment this morning.

It was attended by Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thein and departmental heads.

Director-General of Fisheries Department U Soe Win clarified the rules for formation of the organization, followed by a general round of discussions.

(9)   Basic Education Level General Knowledge Quiz on the Tatmadaw held in townships

YANGON, 20 Scpt-The Ninth Basic Education Level General Knowledge Quiz on the Tatmadaw took place simultaneously in townships throughout the country today.  High school level quiz was held from 10 am to noon and middle school level quiz from 1 pm to 3 pm. Deputy Director-General of No 3 Basic Education Department U Thaung Shwe and officials visited BEHS No 6, Botahtaung Township, and BEHS No 1, Lanmadaw Township, in the morning and BEHS No 2, Dagon Township, BEHS No 1, Latha Township, and BEHS No 1, Yankin Township, in the afternoon.

(10)  Myanmar writer to receive literary award in Bangkok

YANGON, 20 Sept - U Aung Thein (a) U Kyi Aye (Hsinphyugyun Aung Thein), the prize winner in the 3rd SEA Write Award, left here by air for Thailand today to receive the award at Oriental Hotel in Bangkok.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralong Korn will present prizes to the nine writers and poets, one each from nine ASEAN countries, at Oriental Hotel on 25 September.

The prize for each is 100,000 baht cheque and programmes for the delegations to the 20-26 ceremony include visits to historic places, including Emerald Buddha, and business centres.

The prize-winner Myanmar writer is accompanied by Editor U Maung Hlaing (Maung Swe Nge) of the Printing and Publishing Enterprise of the Ministry of Information.

They were seen off by Deputy Minister for Information Brig-Gen Aung Thein, Chairman of Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association U Kyaw Aung (Kyaw Aung), Managing Director of PPE U Than Maung, Managing Director of News and Periodicals Enterprise U Tin Kha (Tekkatho Tin Kha), Director-General of Myanma Radio and TV U Khin Maung Htay, Managing Director of Myanma Motion Picture Enterprise Col Bo Kyi, Secretary of MWJA Director (News) of NPE U Hla Tun (Hla Tun Twantay) and their families.
