YANGON, 5 Sept - A ceremony to give away prizes to winners of 1998 Myanmar
Women's Day Commemorative Essay Competitions organized by the National
Working Committee for Women's Affairs was held in the National Theatre on
Myomakyaung Street this afternoon, and Secretary-l of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt addressed the ceremony and presented
prizes to winners.

Also present were Minister for Cooperatives U Aung San, Minister - for
Home Affairs Co; Tin' Hlaing, Minister for lnformation Maj-Gen Kyi Aung,
Chairman of the National Working Committee for Women's Affairs Minister for
Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Cen Pyi Sone, Minister for Sports
Brig-Gen Sein Win, Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Attorney-General U Tha Tun, the
deputy ministers, Director-General of the Office of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Col Pe Nyein, department heads, members of NWCWA, subcommittees, the Committee for Organizing 1998 Myanmar Women's Day Commemorative Essay Competition and Committee for Scrutinizing Essay Manuscript, Chairmen and officials of Myanmar Artistes Asiayone, Myanmar Music Asiayone and Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayone, Myanmar women writers, members of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, representatives of NGOs, donors, winners of eassy competitions and their parents and teachers and guests.

(2)   Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families, wellwishers donate dry rations to Thayettaw Kyaungtaik

YANGON, 5 Sept - Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) families and wellwishers donated
dry rations to Thayettaw Kyaungtaik at Pariyatti Aletaik in Lanmadaw Township
this morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Present were member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of
Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung
Than, Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Minister for Science and
Technology U Thaung, Minister for Religious Affairs Maj-Gen Sein Htwa,
Ministers at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung and Maj-Gen
Tin Ngwe, Chief Justice U Aung Toe and Attorney-General U Tha Tun, senior
military officers of the Ministry of Defence, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs
Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs U Aung Khin,
Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City
Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, officials of the Office of thc
State Peace and Development Council and departments and guests.

Congregation received the Five Precepts from Chairman of Township Sangha
Nayaka Committee Presiding Sayadaw of Maha HmankinKyaungtaik Bhaddanta
Nyanainda and members of the Sangha recited parittas.

(3)   Minister inspects railroad sections, stations and bridges

YANGON, 5 Sept - Minister for Rail Transportation U Pan Aung, accompanied by
officials, inspected railroad sections, stations and bridges on thc railroad
between Taungoo, Bago and Waw in Bago Division on 2 and 3 September.

During his inspection tour, the minister instructed officials and engineers to
ensure smooth flow of water at drains along the railroad to plant shade trees
on both sides of the railroad, to transport sleepers from saw mills as soon as
possible and to replace the old ones on thc railroad, to make arrangements for
ensuring balance in transport of passengers and cargos and to render r
services to thc satisfaction of the travellers.

(4)   Minister for A&I inspects Ngamoeyeik Dam, paddy fields in Bago Division

YANGON, 5 Sept - Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Maj-Gen Nyunt Tin
visited Ngamoeyeik Dam in Hlegu Township this morning.

Accompanied by officials, the minister inspected.d water control
structure, left main canal and small canals of the dam and instructed
officials to carry out systernatic maintenance work, to ensure smooth flow of
water at canals, to prevent loss and wastage of water and to pump water from
canals in high areas.

The minister then inspected fields of quality strain paddy of Myanma
Agriculture Service in Bago as well as paddy fields in wetlands by the motor
road between Bago and Thanatpin together with officials of Bago Division
Agriculture Coordinating Committee.

He met farmers and discussed with them requirements of their fields and
preparations for summer paddy.

Due to this year's weather, paddy could be cultivated early in some areas
of Bago Division and farmers will soon harvest the paddy at those fields.

The minister then proceeded to Ale Village, Thanatpin Township, and
inspected monsoon paddy cultivated late due to floods in thc area around the
village and met farmers.

Next, the minister went to No 34 Tractors Depot of Kawa Township
Agricultural Mechanization Department where he inspected maintenance of
tractors and paddy thrashers   and other farming equipment which are made
available for use.

He gave instructions to carry out paddy harvesting and cultivation with
the use of farm machines.

It is scheduled to put 2.2 million acres of land under monsoon paddy this
year in Bago Division. Of them, over two million acres have been put under
paddy to date. Even in the areas where paddy is cultivated late yearly due to
floods, about 400,000 acres have been put under paddy. Farmers will soon
harvest the paddy cultivated early.

Accompanied by Yangon Division Agriculture Coordinating Committee, the
minister also inspected the temporary camp of a pest control team of MAS near
Khamat Village in Khayan Township.

The minister met farmers near Padoke Village in Thongwa Township and
discussed with them arrangements for pest control and agriculture loans and
boosting of monsoon paddy production.

(4)   Minister inspects Myanma Pharmaceutical Factory

YANGON, 5 Sept - Minister for Industry-l U Aung Thaung visited Myanma
Pharmaceutical Factory on Hsaywasetyon Street, West Gyogon, Insein Township
this morning.

The minister was accopanied by Deputy Minister Col Than Zin. Managing
Director of Myanma Pharmaceutical Industries Col Myint Oo and officials.

He inspected innovation of an equipment to be used in manufacturing
Provimin tablets and other equipment and gave instructions.

The minister also inspected breeding of white rat, rabbit, guinea-pig and
horse which are used in research work for.producing medicines and gave
instructions to systematically breed the animals and to keep their place
clean.

(5)   Billboard hailing USDA Annual General Meeting opened

YANGON 5 Sept - A billboard hailing thc Annual General Meeting of Onion
Solidarity and Development Association (Central ) 1998 was opened at Bahan
Circus this morning.

Thc ceremony was attended by Secretary of Organizing Group of Information
Sub-Committee ProRector of University of Culture U Thant Zin, executive of
Yangon Division USDA U Min Thein, secretaries, executives and members of
District Township USDAs, Chairman of Bahan Township Peace and Development
Council U Soe Win -:and members, members of-Maternal and Child Welfare
Association, students and teachers, departmental personnel, members of Red
Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades and ozi and dobat troupes totalling over
1,800.

Patrons of Bahan Township USDA Chairmen of Township Peace and Development
Council U Soe Win formally opened thc billboard.

(6)   Yankin Township MCWA holds annual general meeting

YANGON, 5 Sept - The annual general meeting of Yankin Township Maternal and
Child Welfare Association, presentation of stipends for poor students and
organization of credit society were held at Teachers' Training School in
Yankin Township at 9 am today.

Present were Chairman of Supervisory Committee for Yangon Division MCWA Dr Tin
Maung Win and members Dr Khin Thet Myaing and Daw Khin Ma Ma, Chairman of
Township Peace and Development Council U Kyaw Swa, members of Union Solidarity
and Development Association, Red Cross and Auxiliary Fire Brigades, students
and parents.

Chairperson of Yankin Township MWCA Daw Yin Yin Myint and executives
presented K 21,500 to 43 students.

Then, they formed the credit society, elected new executives and explained
tasks.

(7)   Beverage Division of MHTS holds coord meeting for 1998-99

YANGON, 5 Sept - The Beverage Division of Myanma Hotels and Tourism Services
held a coordination meeting for 1998-99 fiscal year at its office on Maha
Bandoola Street this morning.

Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu spoke on the
occasion.

He said the Government is encouraging the private sector in accordance with
the nation's market oriented economic system being practised, and that was why
a new organizational setup of the ministry was drawn.

The deputy minister called on officials at different levels to provide
systematic supervision and inspection for preventing abuse and loss and
wastage of the state-owned property and to strive for achieving progress of
the departmental work, considering whether the rumours being spread by
internal and external destructive organizations are true or not with their own
consciousness.

A general round of discussions on work done and future tasks then
followed.

(8)   25th convocation of IM-2

YANGON, 5 Sept - The 25th Convocation of Institute of Medicine-2 was held in the
Convocation hall of Yangon University this morning.

Rector Dr Tha Hla Shwe spoke and conferred degrees on nine post-graduates
and 19 graduates.

Present also were heads of departments, lecturers, Registrar-1 Daw Khin Mi
Mi Tun, faculty members, graduates and their relatives.

(9)   Stipends provided for poor students in Seikkyi Khanaungto

YANGON, 5 Sept - The ceremonies to present membership applications for Maternal
and Child Welfare Association and to provide stipends for poor students were
held at the office of Seikkyi Khanaungto Township Peace and Development
Council, Yangon South District, at 9 am today.

Chairman of Township Peace and Development Council U Kan Htut and Patron
of Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association Daw Khin Cho Oo spoke on
the occasion.

Daw Khin Cho Oo then accepted the MCWA membership applications presented
by the respective wards.

The heads of the 16 primary, one middle and one high schools accepted
stipends for 18 students donated by the well-wishers.

Later, five wellwishers donated cash for construction of Township MCWA
building to Daw Khin Cho Oo.

SC, first floor, Yuzana Plaza, Tamway Township, this morning with a ceremony
at which top models took part in sales promotion.

Aromatic substances and oil, various kinds of cosmetics, lotions and soaps,
