(1)   Secretary-l receives foreign entrepreneurs

YANGON, 4 Sept - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Chairman of Myanmar International Terminals Thilawar and Group Managing Director of Hutchison Port Holdings, Hong Kong, Mr John Meredith and party at Dagon Yeiktha of thc Ministry of Defence at 4 pm today.

Present were Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Nyunt Swe and U Khin Maung Win and Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of the Protocol Department.

(2)   Means sought for industrial production development

YANGON, 4 Sept - A seminar was held today at Myanma Scientific and Technological Research Department to help develop production of industrial zones addressed by Patron of Myanma Industrial Development Committee Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

Participants will read nine papers at the seminar and will exchange ideas and technologies which should be applied in the practical field effectively, he said.

Advancement of expertise and skills of the private sector is specially required as it is widely engaging in the national industrial sector, he noted.  Bilateral technical cooperation and exchange of expertise between the government and entrepreneurs is required for rapid progress of agro-based industries in line with the objective laid down by the State, he said.

Chairman of MIDC Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung said the committee is continuously rendering cooperation and assistance in its efforts for industrial development expressing belief that the seminar will help promote industrial production and exports.

Chairman of Myanma Industrial Development Work Committee Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe also spoke.

The Ministry of Industry-2 presented 48 kinds of laboratory equipment and 101 kinds of chemicals valued at K 435,150 to MIDC.

Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe presented the gifts to U Thaung.

Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha, Minister at Office of Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung, Deputy Minister for Industry-2 U Thein Tun, Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun, Deputy Minister for Rail Transportation Thura U Thaung Lwin, Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Brig-Gen Thura Aung Ko, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, officials of the State Peace and Development Council and the respective departments, chairmen and members of sub-committees of MIDC, resource persons, representatives of industrial zones and guests were also present.

The Secretary-2 and party inspected briquette producing machines, punches, table punches, planes, marble slab decoration machines, harvesters and threshers manufactured by the Ministry of Industry-2 and the process of pulp production and bean milk production, finished goods and raw materials of the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Chairman of Dagon Myothit Industrial Zone-1 Management Committee U Ba Than and U Ohn Lwin of Tokyo Battery presented cash for the seminar.

Resource persons read papers, on which the participants discussed.

The seminar ended with concluding remarks by MIDC chairman.

(3)   Ministry of Industry-2 presents cash awards to outstanding children of employees

YANGON, 4 Sept - A ceremony to present cash awards to children of employees of the Ministry of Industry-2, who passed Basic Education High School Examination with distinctions, was held in the meeting hall of the ministry this evening.

Present also were Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe and wife, Deputy Minister U Thein Tun and wife, directors-general and managing directors, departmental officials.

Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe spoke on the occasion.

Then, the minister, the deputy minister, directors-general and managing directors presented cash awards to the outstanding children of employees.

On behalf of the outstanding children, five-distinction winner Ma Hnin Zarchi Lin thanked the officials.

(4)   The people are enjoying fruits of labour of Tatmadawmen

YANGON, 4 Sept - Commander-in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than presented wings to graduates of No 3 Air Gunner Course of Shande at No 2 Pilot Training School of Flying Training Base in Meiktila this morning.

Present were Chief of Armed Forces Training Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Chief of Staff (Navy) Captain Kyi Min, Commander of Flying Training Base Col Thein Myint, the Commander of Air Force Base Headquarters of the Tatmadaw(Air), Squadron Commander, heads of units, military officials and civil officers of Meiktila Station, course instructors, relatives of course graduates and guests.

Maj-Gen Kyaw Than presented wings to 18 course graduates individually.

He also presented Model Air Gunner Award to Air 24111 Aung Naing Win.

He addressed the ceremony and presented certificates to those who had completed the courses.

(5)   Military Attaches visit Bo Myat Tun Bridge Project, Hlinethaya Industrial City

YANGON, 4 Sept - Military Attaches of missions led by Defence, Army and Air Attache of Thai Embassy Col Ongard Rattanawiehai, Dean of Military Attaches, visited Bo Myat Tun Bridge Project in Nyaungdon Township, Ayeyawady Division, and construction projects and factories in Hlinethaya Industrial City in Yangon Division today.

They were accompanied by Deputy Chief of Office of Strategic Studies of Ministry of Defence and Deputy Director of Defence Services Intelligence Brig-Gen Kyaw Win and officials.

First, they arrived at the site of Bo Myat Tun Bridge Project where they were welcomed by officials.

Superintending Engineer U Pe Than briefed them on the project and replied to their questions.

Col Ongard Rattana-wiehai presented souvenirs to U Pe Than and officials.

The attaches then proceeded to Hlinethaya Industrial Zone where Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint, Director-General U Arnt Kyaw of Human Settlement and Housing Development Department and officials.

In the Kanaung Hall, Director U Win Myint of HSHDD explained about the industrial city and Project Manager Mr Steven Nelson of Pan Hlaing Golf Course Project.

Col Ongard Rattanawiehai presented souvenirs to the deputy minister and officials.

Next, the attaches visited FMI City and had souvenir photos taken.

While in the industrial city, the military attaches visited the garment factory of Myanmar Yes Co, Max soft drink factory of Pin Ya Manufacturing Co Ltd, the garment factory of Myanmar Apparel Co Ltd and Tai Yi Shoe Factory.

Officials concerned explained about the factories to them.

They also went to Nawadei Garden City Project of Chinsu May Flower Co Ltd where General Manager Mr Peter Lee replied to their questions about the project.

The military attaches left there in the evening after touring the project area.

(6)   Books for USDA

YANGON, 4 Sept - As a gesture hailing the Annual General Meeting (1998) of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Sayagyi Shwebo San Tin Aung donated books at the Headquarters of the USDA this morning.

The donor explained the purpose of donation and presented 500 books titled "Who loves the people" and other articles written by Sithu Nyein Aye.

Member of the Central Executive Committee Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister U Than Shwe accepted the books and presented a certificate of honour to the donor.

Then, CEC member Deputy Minister for Information U Thein Sein thanked the donor.

Present also were officials of the Headquarters of the USDA.

(7)   Minister inspects Danidaw Main Petroleum Products Storage and Distribution Division

YANGON, 4 Sept - Minister for Energy Brig-Gen Lun Thi inspected Danidaw Main Petroleum Products Storage and Distribution Division of Myanma Petroleum Products Enterprise in Botahtaung Township this afternoon.

The minister laid down a new fuel oil distribution system which will minimize loss and wastage after hearing a report on storage and distribution of fuel oil presented by Managing Director U Aung Hlaing of MEPE.

The minister then went to Divisional Officer's Office of Yangon Division MEPE where he oversaw renewing permits for buying fuel oil and keeping data on motors with the use of computers.

He gave instructions to ensure smooth procedures in renewing the permits, to render good service for the convenience of the people and to keep detailed data.

Afterwards, the minister oversaw the fuel oil distribution and storage system of the division.

(8)   Ministry of Hotels and Tourism presents stipends to children of employees

YANGON, 4 Sept - A ceremony to present prizes to outstanding children and stipends to children of employees of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism was held in the meeting hall of Beverage Enterprise this morning.

Present were Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, departmental officials, employees and outstanding children.

The minister spoke on the occasion.

Then, the minister and the deputy minister presented cash awards to two four-distinction winners, six three-distinction winners, 13 two-distinction winners and 20 one-distinction winners.

K 3,000 for each distinction were presented to outstanding children.

Director-General U Khin Maung Latt and Managing Director U Kyi Tun presented K 1,000 each to 897 primary school children, K 1,500 each to 736 middle school children and K 2,000 each to 642 high school children.

(9)   Seikkan Township USDA members donate blood

YANGON, 4 Sept - Hailing the Annual General Meeting of Union Solidarity and Development Association (Central) 1998, Seikkan Township USDA members donated blood at the Children's Hospital in Dagon Township this morning.

Present were Medical Superintendent paediatrician Dr Mya Thein and professors, specialists, Secretary of Yangon West District USDA U Tin Win, Chairman of Seikkan Township Peace and Development Council U Myint Hlaing, Dagon Township Peace and Development Council Chairman U Oo Khaing, Secretary of Dagon Township USDA U Khin Hlaing Tun, Secretary of Seikkan Township USDA U San Kyaw, executives, ward organizers and blood donors.

U San Kyaw briefed those present on purpose of the donation.

Dr Mya Thein presented a certificate of honour to U San Kyaw and thanked him.

(10) Sorita Transport Company donates US $ 15000 to Parahita Tiger School

YANGON, 4 Sept - Chairman Takeo Sorita and party of Sorita Transport Company Ltd of Yokohama, Japan, donated US $ 1,000 to Parahita Tiger School of Border Areas and National Races Development on Butayon Street yesterday evening.

Principal of the school U Hla Nyein accepted the donation and presented a certificate of honour to the donors.

It is the company's second donation to Parahita (Tiger) School.

(11) MRTV to telecast "New Vision Mandalay Part I"

YANGON, 4 Sept - "New Vision Mandalay Part I" will be telecast by MRTV at 8 am and 6.30 pm on 5 September (Saturday).

The programme will feature building of Dhammazadi pagodas at Sandha Muni Pagoda, laying of marble slabs on the platform of Kuthodaw Pagoda and building, of Aryongan Tazaung.
