YANGON, 31 Aug - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Mr Tornomitsu Iwakura, Director-General for Foreign Policy and for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Policy, Policy Research Council, Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, and party at Dagon Guest Rouse this afternoon.
Also present together with the Secretary-1 were Minister for Progress of Border Areas and Nation Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung, Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Nyunt Swe and U Khin Maung Win, Director-General of Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet and officials.

(2) Prizes, gifts presented to medallist archers, teams in 1998 World Ranking Asia Archery Circuit First Round Competition
YANGON, 31 Aug - The prize distribution ceremony for the 1998 World Ranking Asia Archery Circuit First Round Competition was held in conjunction with dinner at Karaweik Hall, Kandawgyi, today.
Patron of the Organizing Committee for the 1998 World Ranking Asia Archery Circuit First Round Competition Chairman of Myanmar National Olympic Council Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented Myanma soon bowls as gifts to the participating teams.
Also present were Secretary-3 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Win Myint, member of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, ministers, the Yangon Mayor, deputy ministers, leading patrons of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation Dr Khin Win Shwe, Daw Khin Than Nwe, Daw Khin Cho Oo and patrons, the Vice-President of the International Archery Federation, the Vice-Presi dent of the Asian Archery Federation, officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, departmental heads, the President of Myanmar Archery Federation and executives, member of the Organizing Leading Committee, the Work Committee and subcommittees, officials of the Ministry of Sports, presidents and secretaries of sports federations, archers and guests.

(3) Pin Creek Dam in Mandalay Division commissioned
YANGON, 31 Aug - Pin Creek Dam, built by Division 12 of Irrigation Department, was commissioned into service this morning in Kyaukpadaung Township, Mandalay Division, addressed by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.
The dam was commissioned into service in Mandalay Division after Weilaung Dam, Taungtha Township, Myingyan District, was inaugurated on 13 July 1998, he said.
Built on Pin Creek, the earth dam, 2,200 feet long and 106 feet high, will irrigate 5,000 acres including 2,000 acres covered by left leader canal of Kyetmauktaung Darn irrigation system. It will also supply drinking water.

(4) Chinese journalists call on Minister for H & T, Supreme Court Justices
YANGON, 31 Aug - The Chinese journalist delegation led by Vice-Chairman of Guangzhou Daily Mr Lai Nanchi called on Minister for Hotels and Tourism Maj-Gen Saw Lwin at the minister's office today.
The Chinese journalists were accompanied by the Charge d'Affaires ai of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China and embassy officials.
Also present on the occasion were Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism Brig-Gen Aye Myint Kyu, Director-General of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism U Khin Maung Lat and officials.
The Chinese journalists also called on Supreme Court Justices U Kyaw Win and U Aung Myin later this afternoon.
Director-General of the Supreme Court U Ba Than Aung and officials were also present.

(5) Presentation Seminar on "Effective Use of Computer" held
YANGON, 31 Aug - Presentation Seminar on "Effective Use of Computer" was held in the hall of the Auditor-General's Office in Ahlon Township this afternoon.
Present were acting Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye, Vice-Auditor-General U Khin Win, Director-General of the Auditor-General's Office Daw Thin Thin and employees, Managing Director of ACE Data System and Chairman of Myanmar Computer Experts Association U Them Oo and officials.
Director-General Daw Thin Thin explained the purpose of the seminar.
U Thein Oo gave a talk on Effective Use of Computer.
Then, Brig-Gen Tin Aye said computers are being used in all sectors such as economy, social activities, education, health and administration in Myanmar, and added computers are also used for collecting and distributing financial information.
He remarked that to be able to apply computer skillfully, employees of the Auditor-General's Office need to have a wide range of knowledge related to computer technology.
He also spoke of the need for them to study not only basic computer technology but also advanced technology, and said to fulfil that requirement, the seminar is held.
Director-General Daw Thin Thin thanked officials.

(6) Chinese-Taipei wins gold in men and women's archery events
YANGON 31 Aug - Chinese-Taipei A teams won gold in men and women's team-wise events of 1998 World Ranking Asian Archery Circuit First Round Competition today at Thuwunna Youth Training Centre.
China B team were second in both men and women's events.
Myanmar A team, which comprised Khin Than Nwe, Myat Thuzar Myint and Thi Thi Win, was third in women's events and Indonesia A team third in men's event.
Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win, Minister at the Office of Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung officials of the Ministry of Sports, leading patrons of Myanmar Women's Sports Federation Dr Khin Win Shwe, Daw Khin Than Nwe Daw Khin Cho Oo, Daw Aye Aye Tint, Daw Khin Kyi and Daw Tin Tin Win, patrons of Myanmar Archery Federation Daw Khin Hla Hla and Daw Yin Yin Myint, member of Myanmar Olympic Committee Prof Daw May May Yi, President of Myanmar Archery Federation U Khin Shwe and executives, diplomats, guests, Vice-President of International Archery Federation President of International Archery Judges Association Mr Don Lovo, Vice-President of Asian Archery Federation Mr Sanguan Kasavinta, managers and coaches of participating teams and archery enthusiastic were present.
Ministers Col Tin Hlaing, Brig-Gen Sein Win and Brig-Gen Lun Maung, U Khin Shwe and officials greeted the participants.

(7) Minister inspects No-1 Automobile Factory
YANGON, 31 Aug - Minister for Industry-2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe visited the leaf spring work hop of No 1 Automobile Factory under Myanma Automobile and Diesel Engine Industries in Mayangon Township this afternoon.
He was welcomed there by Director (Project) U Lone Khine, General Manager of the Factory U Hline Thein and officials. The minister inspected production of leaf spring for TE-21 vehicles, two-ton vehicles and Mazda Jeeps, and gave instructions.
Then, the minister inspected production of wires for TV and videos, which is jointly undertaken by the Ministry of Industry-2 and Doopung International Co Ltd. of the Republic of Korea.

YANGON, 31 Aug - Minister for Industry 2 Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe received Deputy General Manager of China National Complete Plant Import & Export Corporation (Group) Mrs Lin Yan and party at his office this morning.
Present were managing directors and officials.

(9) Chinese journalists visit Bagan-NyaungU, Mandalay, Sagaing
YANGON, 31 Aug - Chinese journalist delegation led by Vice-Chairman of Guangzhou Daily Mr Lai Nanchi visited Bagan-NyaungU, Mandalay and Sagaing from 28 to 30 August.
The Chinese journalists flew to NyaungU on 28 August and were welcomed there by district authorities and officials.
After visiting eminent pagodas, they toured Myanma Lacquerware Institute and Bagan Archaeology Museum and viewed Bagan sunset from Lawkananda Pagoda platform.
They proceeded to Mandalay on 29 August and called on Mandalay Mayor Brig-Gen Yan Thein.
Afterwards they toured Myanansankyaw Shwenandaw, Cultural Museum, Maha Myat Muni Pagoda, Maha Atula Waiyan (Atumashi) and Shwekyaunggyi and Mandalay Hill.
On 30 August, they visited the University for Development of National Races at Ywathitgyi and Kaunghmudaw Pagoda in Sagaing and U Pein's Bridge at Taungthaman-inn and shopped at Zegyo Market.
