(1) Secretary-1 receives Ambassador of Singapore
YANGON, 28 July - Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt received Ambassador of Singapore Brig-Gen Patrick Choy Choong Tow at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 8:30 am today.
Present on the occasion were Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Brig-Gen Abel, Deputy Ministers for Foreign Affairs U Nyunt Swe and U Khin Maung Win and Director-General of the Protocol Department Thura U Aung Htet.
They cordially discussed economic cooperation between Myanmar and Singapore.

(2) Fisheries entrepreneurs urged to serve interests of consumers, wholesalers and retailers
YANGON, 28 July - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo this morning toured Kyimymdine Central Fish Market, Myanma Fisheries and Annawa Fisheries Holdings Limited and inspected the catch and sale of fish and prawn.
The Secretary-2, accompanied by Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than, Minister for Transport Lt-Gen Tin Ngwe, Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Brig-Gen Maung Maung Thein, Minister at the office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Minister for Transport Brig-Gen Kyaw Myint, Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries U Aung Thein, Deputy Minister for Energy U Tin Tun, Deputy Minister for Electric Power Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Vice- Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa and officials, first visited the Kyimyindine Central Fish Market where he met departmental personnel and fishery entrepreneurs.

(3) Minister for CPI inspects Mayangon Auto-exchange
YANGON, 28 July - Minister for Communications, Posts, and Telegraphs Brig-Gen Win Tin inspected Myanmar's Internet communications at Mayangon Auto-exchange this morning.
Officials reported on function of Internet.
The minister inspected installation of Data Communication-Packet Switching System and chose the site for antenna foundation for Internet communication. He inspected installation of equipment for CDMA telephone system and radio telephone system and international and trunk calls. He also spoke of durability of Mayangon auto-exchange building. Officials reported on organizational set up, strength of telephone lines and arrangements for repair of telephone.
The minister then inspected exchange equipment, PCM and Optical Fibre System and spoke of maintenance of equipment.

(4) CCDAC focuses on eradicating drugs within 15 years
YANGON, 28 July - The Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control held its meeting No 2/98 at the Ministry of Home Affairs at 1 pm today and Chairman of CCDAC Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing delivered an address.
It was also attended by Vice-Chairman of CCDAC Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, Chairman of the Central Working Committees Supervisory Committee Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung, the chairmen of Central Working Committees, senior officers of the Ministry of Defence, Secretary of CCDAC Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win and secretaries of the working committees, departmental personnel, State/Division MPF Commanders who are members of State/Division Supervisory Committees, State/Division Peace and Development Council representatives and guests.

(5) Construction of Bala Minhtin Bridge (Myitkyina) inspected
YANGON, 28 July - Minister for Construction Maj-Gen Saw Tun and officials of Public Works met Chairman of Kachin State Peace and Development Council Commander of Northern Command Maj-Gen Kyaw win in Myilkyina on 26 July.
Accompanied by Deputy Commander of Northern Command Brig-Gen Tin Soe and officials, the commander and the minister went to the Bala Minhtin Bridge across Ayeyawady River. The minister then inspected installation of truss at the bridge and construction of approach road, the walkways and flooring.
The commander and the minister visited Myamyitzu Pagoda built to mark the construction of Bala Minhtin Bridge and they presented cash to staff.
The Bala Minhtin Bridge (Myitkyina) is on Bhamo-Momauk-Waingmaw-Myitkyina- Somprabum Road near Sitapu Village and Minena Village. The bridge with two walkways, each six feet wide, is 2,687 feet long and 28 feet wide and it can withstand 60 tons.
On completion of the bridge, it will bring about economic and social progress of people on east and west banks of Ayeyawady River and contribute toward better transport and regional development.

(6) MIC Secretary receives MD of Engineering Consulting Construction
YANGON, 28 July - Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Chairman Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission Brig-Gen Maung Maung received Managing Director Mr Francesco Dellacasa and party of Engineering Consulting Construction Co of Italy at the commission office at 10 am today.
They discussed investment in the electric power and agriculture sectors.
Present were officials of Directorate of Investment and Companies Administration.

(7) Minister inspects Loikaw, Taunggyi THSs
YANGON, 28 July - Minister for Science and Technology U Thaung met Chairman of Kayah State Peace and Development Council Col Hla Thaung Myint and EC members of District and Township Union Solidarity and Development Association at the Office of Kayah State USDA in Loikaw on 25 July.
U Thaung discussed upgrading of Technical High School to Technical Institute for youths in the township, creating of job opportunities for them in building a modern developed nation and opening of computer diploma training school in cooperation with the ministry and Kayah State USDA.
The minister and party went to Loikaw Technical High School and discussed appointment of faculty members and teaching aids with the principal and staff. The minister inspected classrooms and workshops.
In the evening, the minister together with Brig-Gen Kyaw Win of Phekhon Station inspected generating of power at Lawpita Power Stations. He inspected rubber plantation in Phekhon Station. He also inspected marble slab factory and met industrialists.
On 26 July, the minister, accompanied by Col Hla Thaung Myint, inspected storage of water in Moebye Dam and terraced plantations.
The minister met the principal and staff of Ayethaya Technical Institute and spoke of producing well-qualified trainees.
In the evening, the minister discussed special vocational training course and admittance of more students after upgrading of Taunggyi Technical High School to Technical Institute and staff welfare.

(8) 1,100 acres of forest reserve protection trees to be planted in NyaungU
YANGON, 28 July - A total of 1,100 acres of trees will be planted as forest reserve protection plantations in NyaungU Township, Mandalay Division, within three years from 1998 to the year 2000.
With the help of JIFPRO of Japan and ten Japanese organizations, Forest Department and Arid Region Greening Department of the Ministry of Forestry will set up 370 acres of trees annually for three years circling Kyubinkwayh Forest Reserve in the township.
A ceremony to initiate the project was held there this morning, with an address by Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint.
The Japanese companies also presented exercise books and stationery to students of - the surrounding eight villages. The Chairman of JIFPRO and Director-General of FD Dr Kyaw Tint unveiled the project signboard, followed by plantations of trees.
Minister for Forestry U Aung Phone, Ambassador of Japan Mr Kazuo Asakai, senior officials of donor organizations, departmental personnel and local people of the eight villages totalling 1,500 were also present.

(9) Minister for Industry-l receives Daiwa Institute of Research
YANGON, 28 July - Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung received Adviser to the Daiwa Institute of Research Ltd (Japan) Mr Zenichi Ishikawa and party at his office at 2 pm today. Similarly, he received General Manager Mr Shigeki Ura and party of Itochu Corporation based in Yangon of Japan at 2.30 pm today. Present were directors-general and managing directors of departments and industries under the ministry.

(10) Vice-Chairperson of MMCWA (Central) lectures at USDA course
YANGON, 28 July - During a visit to the Management Multiplier Course No.4/98 for Executives of Tamway Township Union Solidarity and Development Association this morning, Vice-Chairperson of Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (Central) Dr Khin Win Shwe lectured on Maternal and Child Welfare Association and MMCWA (Central) Secretary Dr Nyo Nyo on the aims of MCWA.
In the afternoon, member of Union Solidarity and Development Association Central Executive Committee Deputy Minister for Information U Thein Sein lectured on the five objectives of USDA and policies of the State.

(11) Minister for Health inspects Cetena Specialist Clinic
YANGON, 28 July - Minis ter for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein, Deputy Minister Dr Mya Oo and officials inspected Cetena Specialist Clinic of the Ministry of Health at the corner of Bogyoke Aung San Street and Shwedagon Pagoda Road this afternoon.
Chairman of the Clinic Supervisory Committee Dr Kyaw Aye reported on patients, treatment and income. The minister gave instructions on supervision of health care, fulfilling requirements and treatment of cost-sharing system.
The minister met the director-general and officials at the Health Department (Head Office) and inspected number of vehicles and vehicles to be auctioned.
The minister and party went to Infectious Disease Hospital where Medical Superintendent Dr Htain Win reported on treatment and wards.
The minister also inspected Central Medical Stores on Sagawa Road.

YANGON, 28 July - Well-wishers donated cash to Cardiac Unit and Urology and Renal Unit of Yangon General Hospital at the hospital this morning. U Tin Htut, ILO Adviser, Mozambique, and Daw Aye Aye Mar family donated K 200,000 to the units in memory of parents U Nyunt and Daw Khin Khin Ohn.
Medical Superintendent Dr Taik Wan of YGH accepted the donation and presented a certificate of honour to the donors. Also present were Professor U Aung of Cardiac Unit and Professor U Paing Soe of Urology and Renal Unit and officials.
