(1)   51st Anniversary Arzani Day observed in Yangon

YANGON, 19 July - The 51st Anniversary Arzani day (1998) was observed at the Arzani Mausoleum at 8 am today.

On behalf of the Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council, Chairman of the 51st Anniversary Arzani Day Observance Committee Minister for Culture U Win Sein attended the ceremony, saluted the State Flag, laid wreaths at the tombs of the late national leader Bogyoke Aung San and his fallen colleagues and dispensed metta.

Also present were Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Attorney-General U Tha Tun, Acting Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye, Chairman of the 51st Anniversary Arzani Day Observance Executive Committee Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt and members, secretaries of the work groups, senior officers of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy, Air), Myanmar Police Force and Fire Services Department.

Chairman of the 51st Anniversary Arzani Day Observance Committee Minister for Culture U Win Sein arrived at the Mausoleum at 8 am and was welcomed by Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt.

Afterwards, Minister U Win Sein, Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Attorney-General U Tha Tun and Acting Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye took their respective places.

All those present then saluted the State Flag. Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Attorney-General U Tha Tun and Acting Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye laid wreaths at the tomb and paid tribute.

Meanwhile, the State Flag was lowered to half mast. The Guard of Honour of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy, Air) also saluted the fallen leaders.

This was followed by dispensing of metta and two minutes of silence in memory of the Arzanis.

Later, Minister U Win Sein, Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Attorney-General U Tha Tun and Acting Auditor-General Brig-Gen Tin Aye left the Mausoleum.

Afterwards, families of the Arzanis laid wreaths at the respective places.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, daughter of Bogyoke Aung San, laid flower baskets. On behalf of U Aung San Oo, the eldest son of Bogyoke Aung San, and wife Daw Lei Lei Nwe Thein, U Nan Nwe and family laid the wreath and shared merits.

Next, families of other Arzanis laid wreaths at respective places and shared merits.

Representatives of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, Myanmar War Veterans Organization, Myanmar Fire Brigade, Myanmar Red Cross Society, Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association, Myanmar Motion Picture Asiayon, Myanmar Music Asiayon, Myanmar Thabin Asiayon and Myanmar Artists and Artisans Asiayon, diplomats and heads of UN-agencies laid wreaths.

Then, the public paid tribute to the fallen leaders.

As a special arrangement, Bogyoke Aung San Museum on Bogyoke Aung San Museum Street in Bahan Township was open from 8 am to 3 pm.

The museum is open to the public daily from 10 am to 3:30 pm except Mondays and public holidays.

(2)   New, renovated school buildings for primary schools in Mayangon, South Okkalapa Townships

YANGON, 19 July - Ceremonies to hand over new and renovated school buildings of Mayangon Township Basic Education Primary School No 8 and South Okkalapa Township BEPSs No.18 and 17 were held at the respective schools this morning, attended by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

Present also were Minister for Education U Than Aung, Deputy Minister Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung, officials of the Office of the State Peace and Development Council, department heads, district, township and ward authorities, the Director-General of Basic Education Department and officials, township education officers, members of Parent Teacher Association, the headmaster, the headmistress, teachers, members of Union Solidarity and Development Association, students and officials of National Land (Ygn) Co Ltd and Asia Express (Ygn) Co Ltd.

The ceremony to hand over the renovated school buildings of Mayangon Township BEPS No.8 was held at the school on Yekuywama Street, Ward-9, Mayangon Township, this morning.

Managing Director of National Land (Ygn) Co Ltd U Win Sein explained the renovation of school buildings at a cost of over K 4.8 million, and handed documents related to the renovated buildings to Director-General of BED U Bo Win.

He also presented K 100,000 for the school funds and K 30,000 for the school uniforms of the teachers to Headmistress Daw Thaung Myint.

The Secretary-1 inspected the renovated schools.

Similarly, the ceremony to hand over a new school building and renovated school buildings of South Okkalapa Township BEPS No 1 8 was held at the school on Waruna Street-7, Ward-13, South Okkalapa Township.

Chairman of Asia Express (Ygn) Co Ltd U Maung Maung explained the construction of the new school building, 25 feet long and 20 feet wide, and renovation of other school buildings at a cost of over K 5.7 million, and handed documents related to the school buildings to U Bo Win.

He also presented K 100,000 for the school funds and K 30,000 for the school uniforms of the teachers to Headmistress Daw Tin Nu.

Altogether 13 well-wishers donated K 37,000 for the school funds including K 3,000 by Aluminum Pots Factory Family, K 5,000 by U Tin Hla-Daw Kyi Kyi Khin family and K 3,000 each by U Aung Myint-Daw Lwin Lwin Oo, U Naing Win-Daw Tin Tin Htwe, U Maung Maung Myint-Daw Yee Yee Lwin.

Headmistress Daw Tin Nu accepted the donations.

Then, the Secretary-1 inspected the new and renovated school buildings.

Similarly, the ceremony to hand over a new school building and renovated school buildings of South Okkalapa Township BEPS No.17 was held at the school on Dewadaha Street, Ward-13, South Okkalapa Township.

Chairman of Asia Express (Ygn) Co Ltd U Maung Maung explained the construction of three new school buildings, 40 feet long and 25 feet wide, 24 feet long and 20 feet wide and 24 feet long and 18 feet wide respectively, and renovation of other school buildings at a cost of over K 7.9 million, and handed documents related to the school buildings to U Bo Win.

He also presented K 100,000 for the school funds and K 30,000 for the school uniforms of the teachers to Headmaster U Chit Swe.

Headmaster U Chit Swe accepted the cash donated towards the school funds including K 10,000 by U Tin Myint (Saw Mill Family), K 5,000 by U Aung Moe-Daw San San Myint, U Win Myint-Daw Myint Myint Sein family, U Khin Maung Ohn Daw Khine Khine Nwe family, U Win Hlaing-Daw Hlaing Hlaing Htay family and U Maung Maung Than-Daw Win Win Maw family.

Later, the Secretary-1 inspected the new and renovated school buildings.

In meeting the headmaster, the headmistress and teachers at the respective ceremonies, the Secretary-1 said schools possessing the necessary characteristics of a school have emerged because of contribution of well-wisher construction entrepreneurs.

He urged teachers to nurture the school children to become qualified in accord with the aspiration of the Government and to try to understand the tasks for the successful implementation of the well-rounded education of the children.

He noted efforts are to be made for the improvement of all-round education of the school children and the education standard of the entire nation, and called for making assessments on strengths and weaknesses of individual school child and taking remedial measures if there are any weaknesses.

He called on teachers to train the school children to behave well, bear good moral character and keep up fine traditions, and to inculcate in them patriotic spirit, Union spirit and a sense of respects for elders for their spiritual development.

He exhorted them to nurture the children with a view to turning out the youth who will serve the interest of the State in the future, and to make concerted efforts for carrying out the arrangements designed to uplift the education standard of the entire nation, to which the Government aspires.

(3)   Secretary-2 inspects Shwepyitha Bridge construction project

YANGON, 19 July - Secretary-2 of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo inspected construction project of Shwepyitha Bridge across the Hline River which will link Insein, Hlinethaya and Shwepyitha Townships this afternoon. On arrival at the construction project of Shwepyitha Bridge at 1:15 pm, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo was welcomed by Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Ministers for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint and U Tint Swe, Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Vice-Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa and officials.

Deputy Minister for Construction Brig-Gen Thura Aye Myint briefed the Secretary-2 on Shwepyitha bridge project and Senior Engineer U Myint Lwin on progress of construction work and work to be done.

Director-General of Waterways Department U Pe Than, Director-General of Human Settlement and Housing Development Department U Arnt Kyaw, Chairman of Yangon North District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col San Matu and Secretary of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Kyaw Tint briefed the Secretary-2 on situation of the banks and water drainage and arrangements for development of the region.

The Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo gave instructions to officials on work-site safety completion of the project on schedule and minimizing loss and wastage and inspected project work.

Shwepyitha reinforced concrete bridge is 3,415 feet long and the motor-way 52.5 feet wide with walkways on either side six feet wide each.

(4)   Soon offered in commemoration of the 51st Anniversary Martyrs Day

YANGON, 19 July - In commemoration of the 51st Anniversary Martyrs Day, a soon offering ceremony was held at Yangon City Hall this morning.

Present were Vice-Chairman Sayadaw of State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Pannindabhivamsa and member Sayadaws, Chairmen of Yangon Division Sangha Nayaka Committee of All Ganas, totaling 10 Sayadaws, Chairman of the 51st Anniversary Martyrs Day Observance Committee Minister for Culture U Win Sein, Chief Justice U Aung Toe, Attorney General U Tha Tun, Acting Auditor General Brig-Gen Tin Aye, Chairman of Yangon' City Development Committee Mayor U Ko Lay, Chairman of 51st Anniversary Martyrs Day Observance Executive Committee Deputy Minister for Culture U Soe Nyunt and committee members and secretaries of-sub-committees.

Vice-Chairman Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Pannindabhivamsa administered the Five Precepts.

Then, all members of the Sangha recited the parittas.

Minister U Win Sein and officials offered alms to the Sayadaws.

Vice-Chairman Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Bhaddanta Pannindabhivamsa delivered a sermon, followed by sharing of merits.

Afterwards, the minister and officials offered soon to the Sayadaws.

(5)   Minister for Industry-2 coordinates tasks for boosting industrial production

YANGON, 19 July - Minister for Industry-2 and acting Minister for Industry-l Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe, accompanied by managing directors and officials, arrived at No 1 Paper Mill of Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries in Sittaung yesterday morning.

He was welcomed there by Managing Director of Myanma Paper and Chemical Industries U Zaw Sein Win and directors, Manager U Yi Mon and personnel.

Managing Director U Zaw Sein Win briefed them on the paper mill and products.

Manager U Yi Mon also explained the location, production, staff welfare, electricity and natural gas supply and tasks carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Industry-2.

Maj-Gen Hla Myint Swe said that in building a modern developed nation, Ministry of Industry-1 and Ministry of Industry-2 are the second most important sectors, other than the agriculture sector, and he spoke of the need to manufacture machines and equipment for the agriculture sector.

He said mills and factories of the ministries' need be maintained for their full operation and concerted endeavours must be made with innovations and new outlook for development of the industries.

(6)   Minister oversees township development work

YANGON, 19 July - Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs Col Thein Nyunt, accompanied by Director-General of Development Affairs Department Col Myo Myint and officials, went to Nyaungdon by car yesterday morning, and attended a ceremony to plant shade trees and flowering trees on either side of the road leading to the entrance of Nyaungdon.

The minister met members of Township Development Affairs Supervisory Committee and executives of Township Union Solidarity and Development Association at the office of Nyaungdon Township Development Affairs Department.

He gave instructions on development affairs of towns and villages.

The executive officer of Township DAD reported on development affairs.

Later, the minister inspected streets and construction of the office building of Township USDA.

Next, the minister went to the office of Zalun Township DAD.

The minister heard a report on development work by the executive officer, and inspected machinery, warehouses, market and streets.

In the afternoon, the minister proceeded to Danubyu.

At the office of Township DAD, he met members of TDASC, executives of Township USDA, departmental personnel and employees of DAD, and gave instructions.

Then, he inspected streets.

In the evening, the minister went to Pantanaw, where he met members of TDASC, executives of Township USDA and employees of DAD, and gave instructions.

Later, the minister inspected streets, the town hall and Myoma Market, and gave instructions.

(7)   Families of Tatmadaw, well-wishers donate dry rations to Sarthintaiks, Nunneries

YANGON, 19 July - Families of the Tatmadaw (Army, Navy and Air) and well-wishers donated dry rations and edible oil to Nwekyayan Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Ward 3, Wai Aungpinle Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Ward 5 and Maha Gandayon Pariyatti Sarthintaik in Ward 14 in South Okkalapa Township, this morning.

Present were Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Brig-Gen Pyi Sone, Minister at the Office of the Prime Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung, Deputy Minister for Forestry Col Thaik Tun, Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Officer on Special Duty at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Than Tint and departments concerned and donors.

Nwekyayan Pariyatti Sarthintaik Presiding Sayadaw Bhaddanta Revata invested the congregation with the Five Precepts.

(8)   Rice warehouses, bran-oil and rice mills inspected in Pathein

YANGON, 19 July - Deputy Minister for Commerce Co Kyaw Shwe inspected warehouses, bran-oil mill and rice mills in Pathein yesterday.

After inspected rice ware houses, the deputy minister left suggestions on systematic storage and prevention of loss and wastage.

He later toured No.07 Bran-Oil Mill and No.01 100-ton Rice Mill.

(9)   Deputy Minister supervises township development work

YANGON, 19 July - Deputy Minister for Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs U Kyaw Tin, together with officials of the Head Office of the Ministry, met members of Khayan Township Development Affairs Supervisory Committee and staff members at the office of Khayan Township Development Affairs Department yesterday morning.

He discussed township development work, rural development and arrangements for maintenance of streets, and attended to the requirements.

Then, the deputy minister toured the township, and inspected drinking water ponds, streets and Development Affairs Market.

Later, the deputy minister and party proceeded to Thongwa.

At the office of Thongwa Township DAD, he met members of TDASC and staff members, and gave instructions on development work and arrangements for rural development.

Afterwards, the deputy minister inspected streets.

At the office of Thanlyin Township DAD, the deputy minister met members of TDASC, and gave instructions on development work of the town and villages.

Then, he inspected streets in Thanlyin Township and Bogyoke Village.

Later, he proceeded to Kyauktan.

At the office of Kyauktan Township Peace and Development Council, he met members of TDASC, gave instructions on construction of roads. The minister also visited the National Races Village Construction Project.
