(1) Commander in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) receives Japanese Defence Attaches
YANGON, 9 July - Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) General Maung Aye received Japanese Defence Attache Col Akia Sato, who has completed his tour of duty, and his successor Col Hirofumi Yusa at Dagon Yeiktha of the Ministry of Defence at 8:30 am today.
Present on the occasion were Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development Council Chief of the Office of Strategic Studies and Director of Defence Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary-2 Chief of Bureau of Special Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo, members of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Rear-Admiral Nyunt Thein and Commander-in-Chief (Air) Maj-Gen Kyaw Than.

(2) Deputy Prime Minister receives Director of Premier Oil
YANGON, 9 July - Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission Vice-Admiral Maung Maung Khin received Director of Premier Oil Plc, Mr Steve Lowden and party of London at his office this afternoon.
Present also were Minister at the Office of the State Peace and Development Council Secretary of MIC Brig-Gen Maung Maung, Deputy Minister for Energy U Tin Tun and officials.

(3) Upper Myanmar Boosting Industrial Production Workshop concludes in Mandalay
YANGON, 9 July - The Upper Myanmar Boosting Industrial Production Workshop No.2/98 concluded at Mandalay City Development Committee on 7 July.
The workshop was sponsored by Myanma Industrial Development Committee.
Present were Chairman of the Subcommittee for Human Resources Development of the Myanma Industrial Development Work Committee Deputy Minister for Labour U Kyaw Aye, Secretary of Mandalay Division Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Tin Ohn, Adviser at the Ministry of Industry-2 Dr Kyaw Htin, member of the Committee for Supervising Regional Industrial Zones in Mandalay Division U Maung Soe, participants, entrepreneurs and departmental officials.

(4) Diplomats visit Hlinethaya Industrial City, Thilawa Port
YANGON, 9 July - Diplomats and their wives visited Hlinethaya Industrial City and Thilawa Port today.
They were led by Dean of Diplomatic Corps Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Mr Ly Bounkham and accompanied by Director-General Thura U Aung Htet of Protocol Department and officials.
The diplomats and their wives first visited Hlinethaya Industrial City where they were welcomed by Director-General U Arnt Kyaw of Human Settlement and Housing Development Department and officials.
In the Kanaung Hall, U Tin Win, director of the department, explained about the industrial zone to the guests and replied to their questions.
The diplomats visited the shoe factory of Taiyi International Co Ltd, factories of Opal International Co Ltd and Pinya Manufacturing Co Ltd and FMI City and studied bottling of Max soft drink. They were served lunch.
Afterwards, the diplomats visited Thilawa Port where they were welcomed by Managing Director Col Thein Htay of Myanma Port Authority and officials who explained about the port.
The officials replied to questions raised by the diplomats.

YANGON, 9 July - Personnel of Forest Department seized an illegal saw mill in Leway Township on 1 and 2 July.
The team led by the director of FD also took action against four saw mills for breaching the rules and seized 2.44 tons of teak, 18.9307 tons of illegal sawn timber, 250 bags of charcoal and other equipment.

(6) Garden City Project discussed at City Hall
YANGON, 9 July - A coordination meeting on the Garden City Project was held at the Yangon City Development Committee this afternoon
It was attended by Vice-Chairman of YCDC Vice-Mayor Col Maung Pa, Head of Gardens and Playgrounds Department of YCDC U Nyunt Pe, chairman of District Peace and Development Councils, advisers, executive officers of the Township Development Committees and guests.
The meeting discussed establishment of teak woods along No.1, No.2, No.3, No. 4 and No.5 Highways, tasks for greening of the environs of the city circular railroad and characteristics of a modern city.

(7) Minister for Education inspects primary, high schools in Mandalay
YANGON, 9 July - Secretary-General of Union Solidarity and Development Association Minister for Education U Than Aung arrived at Mandalay on 5 July. He met executives of Mandalay Division, District, Township USDAs and discussed tasks of the association.
On 6 July, the minister, accompanied by Director-General Dr Thein Myint of the Higher Education Department (Upper Myanmar), Rector U Cho of Institute of Education (Mandalay), Deputy Director-General U Khun Ba Yin of the No.2 Basic Education Department (Upper Myanmar) and officials, inspected No.1 and No.2 Basic Education High Schools of Sagaing Township and gave instructions. Then, the minister and party inspected Sagaing Teachers' Training School.
On 7 July morning, General Secretary of USDA Minister for Education U Than Aung delivered a speech at concluding ceremony of International Relations and Spoken English Course 1/98, sponsored by Kyaukse District USDA, in Kyaukse Township. The minister and party inspected Basic Education High Schools No.1 and No.2 in Kyaukse Township.

School No.22 and No.23 in Chanaye Thazan Township and Basic Education High

(8) USDA Patron's Shield ISD Soccer Championship continues
YANGON, 9 July - Mandalay Division and Ayeyawady Division won their opponents respectively in the matches of the second round of USDA Patron's Shield ISD Soccer Championship held at Aung San Stadium this evening.
Among the spectators were Chairman of Myanmar Olympic Committee Minister for Sports Brig-Gen Sein Win and Vice-Chairman Vice-Adjutant-General Brig-Gen Maung Nyo, Director-General of Sports and Physical Education Department Col Hla Myint Kyaw, OSD at the Ministry Col Thaung Htaik and Adviser to the ministry Col Ngo Ciin Pau and officials.
Mandalay beat Magway 3-1 in the first match.
Man of the Match Award went to Aung Kyaw Hein of Mandalay.
Ayeyawady edged Bago 4-3 in the second match.
Bago's Aung Gyi won the Man of the Match Award.
Kachin meet Mon in the first match tomorrow, and Sagaing play Yangon in the second match.

YANGON, 9 July - Special Market Festival hailing the International Day of the Cooperatives opens to the public daily from 9 am to 6 pm till 11 July (Saturday).
Eighteen cooperative shops, 13 shops of Government Employees Cooperative Syndicate, six shops of Cottage Industries Department, privates shops and shops of companies are selling cosmetics, textiles, ready-made shirts, foodstuff, mosquito nets, furniture, vacuum flasks, exercise books and soap at 20 per cent discount.

YANGON, 9 July - The opening ceremony of wall magazine of Thongwa Township Information and Public Relations Department was held at the department on 3 July morning
Chairman of Thongwa Township Peace and Development Council, U Phone Myint opened the wall magazine.

(11) Hospital equipment donated
YANGON, 9 July - Well-wishers U Khaing Zaw Win-Lieutenant Myo Thida Myint of East Gyogone in Insein Township donated hospital equipment valued at K 50,000 to Defence Services Gynaecology & Obstetrics and Children's Hospital (300-bed) at the hospital this morning.
Well-wishers explained about the donation and presented hospital equipments to Commandant Lt-Col Thein Dan.
Lt-Col Thein Dan presented certificate of honour to the donors.
Present were Commandant, specialists, heads of department and matron.
